A. If you looking for a new unit go to bhphotovideo.com they are by far the best. You might pay a few dollars more but they don't jack you around and they are also decent folks.
If your looking for a used unit you can also look on a great website called craigslist.org This website works better if your in a more of a metro area or larger city. I find some great buys on here. All I will tell you is check the camera hours before buying it.
Also do realize that the Canon GL2 is a SD camera and that is very old technology. You might want to consider one of the newer HD cameras. Sony just came out with a very nice small hand held unit that is right around 1500 dollars and gives a great image.

Should I get Canon GL1 or HV40?
Q. I'm looking for a video camera to use for video classes/personal use of making videos. I'm debating between Canon products, a used GL1 or a new HV40 as they are actually around the same price. I know the GL1 is prosumer, but the HV40 has HD and is newer. However I realize with the HV40 I will also have to purchase an external mic/adaptor lenses. As far as video production goes, for a student, which is better? (price range around $700, so any prosumer camera higher than GL1 is really out of the question) My only real qualm with the HV40 is that it's so small it may be difficult to use with a tripod or to keep it steady in general, and also that the manual focus is very inconveniently placed. As for GL1, it'd be kind of big to lug around on location, but I do love manual settings. I guess I would ultimately go for whichever would give me better control, and better quality, and better ease in filmmaking (and better sound - I hear the only mic that fits the HV40 isn't all that great). Please help, I am torn.
