Cheap Camcorder with Good Quality?

Q. i am looking for a good camcorder less than 300 dollars with good focus and quality.

A. HD camcorders interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. It looks like this -one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, from front to back of the video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi processor computer with the big Graphics and sound cards that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files a HD camcorder produces.

Consumer level HD camcorders have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording consumer level HD camcorder, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer level HD camcorders all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes four different times advertised as maximum record time for some consumer level HD camcorders. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition. And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video.

High-Def Camcorder Quality?
Q. I looking into buying an HD Camcorder such as the SR7, SR11, or SR12.

I was wondering, if I will be able to achieve the professional looking quality , but more specifically the COLOR as in movies; as apose to the faded out, bright colors in home videos.

I just want to know if I will be able to achieve those results, even if it requires the use of computer software.

(Finally, can someone say which of the 3 cameras above is best)

Thank You.

A. Yes you can achieve similar recorded quality, but not exactly as great as professional camcorders. The difference is that the consumer camcorders you chose have consumer lenses, image sensors, and video processing systems while the lenses, video chips, and other electronics on the professional camcorders are much, MUCH better. Some people may not realize or care about the difference in the "feel" of the video, but many will notice it.

If you can afford these consumer Sony Models, then you can also afford the professional Sony HVR-HD1000 (high definition) http://motionpicturecentral.com/book/camcorders/sony/sony-hvr-hd1000-high-definition-1080i-single-cmos-hdv-professional-camcorder or the Panasonic Pro AG-DVC20 (standard definition). The Sony HVR-A1 http://motionpicturecentral.com/story/sony-hvr-a1-compact-single-cmos-high-definition-1080i-hdv-professional-camcorder or the newer HDR-FX1000 http://motionpicturecentral.com/story/sony-hdr-fx1000-handycam-hdv-professional-camcorder may also be within reach.

If you have to get the consumer camcorders, there is a way you can give the look and feel of professional video to your home movies. You will need to purchase a professional video editing program such as Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, Final Cut Pro, Thomson Grass Valley EDIUS, or Avid Media Composer. These programs can cost a few hundred dollars to as much as your camcorder. With this video editing software, you can adjust the visual characteristics of the video (gamma, color, and more) to make home videos seem more professionally filmed.

Your best bet is to use the money you were going to use on the consumer cameras and purchase a basic professional camcorder for the same price.

for people who understand camcorder quality?

Q. What are the highest quality models from each manufacturer at the moment? I've been using a Canon HV20 and frankly have not been overly impressed by what I saw in the transition from tape.

A. models are not the question, its what they record onto, and the compression used.

Both flash drive and HDD camcorders use very high compression and therefor the quality has to be reduced, by the fact that the video is compressed, trying to get the huge amount of data onto a relatively small storage medium. Neither of the formats can record fast movement well, the plus side is the speed that the video can be put onto a computer, downside the large amount of resources needed to process the data (editing)

For quality then it still has to be tapes based for most people, consumer and semi pro use Mini-dv, less compression, better quality, down side only 60 minutes on a tape and capturing is in real time. its a play off do you want quality or speed. Modern technology is not always best, sometimes proved and tested, is the better option.

When you capture the video and play it back on your computer, very often the quality of the video appears not to be that good, try playing it back directly to a HD TV from the camera, or after editing put your video onto a Blueray disk, then you will see the benefits.

If you have plenty of money then maybe start to look at higher end semi/pro equipment, remember that as you pay more for your camera there are normally less features to help you. The user needs to do more work setting up and recording the video.

I used a HV20 a few Weeks ago I thought the quality was very good, I needed a small camera to take diving, and the results (with the correct lighting) was good for a camera in that price range.

I assume you are keeping the heads clean, should be done more often than people think, I normally do it at the beginning of a days shooting, and always use good quality tapes, and never use them more than twice. if I don't need to keep the footage. For home use then I may use a tape four or five times.

Good luck

Camcorder Quality............?
Q. What is the best type of camcorders under $70 and what is its quality?
I want to film bands and free runners for Youtube channels if that gives you a better idea of what I need.

A. While I agree with lare, if your budget is what you say, all cameras capable of capturing video and "camcorders" in your price range will all be about the same video quality. See what fits your budget and flip a coin a bunch of times to get to your decision.

Less expensive cams have small lenses and imaging chip making good low light behavior impossible. As well, the lack of manual audio control will result in loud audio recording being very muddy and full of static. As these cams increase in price lenses and imaging chips get bigger allowing better low light behavior; manual audio control appears - first buried in the camcorder's options menu then on the outside of the camcorder.

If the plan is to record bands outside in bright sunny daylight, you still need to address the audio issue. Use of an external audio recording device (like a Zoom H1) works - and adds a step in editing.

lare's recommendation to increase your budget is valid.

What are some really good video camcorders for youtube?

Q. I'm hoping to make a really good YouTube video soon but I'm having problems trying to find the right video camcorder I want one with a tripod stand and it records with really good high definition quality I'm asking you guys because whenever I look on a site where their advertising a camcorder the quality video isn't as good as they show it of you have any good suggestions please do tell

A. I just purchased the sony bloggie
It has everything except optical zoom at a great price
full hd at 30 frames per second
270degree swivel lens

What HD camcorders can take photos while recording videos?
Q. I have a JVC Everio GZ-MS230 camcorder, and I love it. I've had it for two years, and the main feature I love is that it can take images while recording. Eventually, I'm going to upgrade, since I want an HD camcorder. The quality on this one is good, but I'd really like an HD one, since I film and take photos of concerts.
So, which HD camcorders can take photos while recording? Thank you c:

A. Any in the Sony HDR consumer camcorder series.

Any in the Canon HF series.

In either case, you need to press the "Photo" button while video is being recorded. Chances the camcorder will shake when you do this is very high. Many of these camcorders come with a wireless remote that has a "Photo" button, but the wireless remote needs to be able to see the front of the camcorder. This is not necessarily convenient, but can work. Consumer grade camcorders usually do not have a wired remote - though the upper end of the Sony consumer cams sometimes do.

My Sony HDR-HC1 has a LANC port to which I connect a wired remote. One of the buttons on the wired remote is "Photo" (along with zoom, focus and power buttons). Since I am not touching the camcorder when the photo button is pushed, there is no camera shake.

Once you set a budget, you'll see what fits - and understand what features will be available from the different manufacturers.

How come Windows Movie Maker makes the quality of my video clips horrible?

Q. I filmed a video with an unregistered hypercam that films the computer screen without a camcorder and the quality looked great until I imported it to Windows Movie Maker. As soon as I dragged the clips of video to the storyboard or timeline the quality became unwatchable. Why is this happening and how do I fix it so the quality remains good.

A. it just looks like that on the preview screen for windows movie maker.

finish the video and hit save to my computer and watch it when it is saved.

you will see the difference.

This happens to almost all the programs, including sony vegas.

What is the best affordable camcorder in quality?
Q. I am looking for a good value camcorder. Any brand or type is alright with me. Any recommendations will be much appreciated. Thank you. :)

A. What is your budget?

What do you need the camcorder to do?

Who is your audience?

"affordable" means different things to different people.

The "best" and no stated budget?

High end? Red One. Maybe Silicon Imaging.

Pro grade? Sony XDCAM series, HDCAM series; Canon XLH or XH series; Panasonic AG-HVX series; JVC GY-HM100.

Prosumer? Sony HDR-FX1000... or jump to the higher end of the HVR series.

Consumer? Canon HV40.

If the above are to much, then consumer cams in the standard definition Canon ZR960 or FS100 are decent.

As the cameras get less expensive, the lenses and imaging chips get smaller and their low-light behavior diminishes. Manual controls get buried in a menu and audio control is lost.

Pocket cams less than about $250 can work well IF you stay within their limitations... Always under good light, always with audio that is not loud and not soft, always on some sort of steadying device (tripod, chair, table, whatever) and never handheld. Never use digital zoom. Stray from these recommendations - or try to make a camcorder work outside its specifications - and any cam will not provide acceptable results.

What is the best HD camcorder for around $300 or maybe a bit more with the best optical zoom?

Q. I want a camcorder with good quality, but nice optical zoom as well.
My cousin has an SDR-S26 Panasonic camcorder with 70x optical zoom, but it's standard definition.
Why can't companies make HD camcorders but with huge amounts of optical zoom like my cousin's?
Thanks.

A. It's a gimmick. It may have 70x zoom but you can NEVER hold it in your hand and zoom it in 70x while it's still watchable. (it will be shakey and out of focus)

So no there are no 70x zoom HD camera's its just a gimmick.

What's a good camcorder with a built-in light?
Q. I'm looking for a relatively small/cheap camcorder (good quality but not willing to spend like $1000 on it) with a built-in light. I can't seem to find any that aren't a ridiculous amount of money.

A. Admittedly I'm basing my answer entirely on my Canon HV20 (which originally retailed for $1000+ new,) but I doubt you'll find many good ones. Built-in lights will be small so it won't add bulk or sap too much power, and not really illuminate too much.

You'll probably be better served by purchasing a separate video light

Is HD camcorder quality supposed to be grainy indoors?
Q. I just bought a Sony HD camcorder (HDR SR10) but the quality of the videos are very grainy even though the resolution is 1920x1080. When I go outside where its very bright, the quality is very good but when I'm in my living room, where there's a decent amount of light, the quality's really grainy. Is this normal?

A. I haven't been too impressed with the hard drive camcorders. We tried an Everio...Nasty!

I'm surprised, Sony camcorders normally do awesome at night. We have an HDR HC-7 and love it. The SR5 & 7 are rated good for low-light conditions by Consumer Reports.org ( your model isn't listed).

You may verify that your settings are capturing at the full HD rate of 16 MPS. You could also try the "Nightshot" setting, although my experience is that it will contribute to your graininess. Last, you may try improving your light conditions. Perhaps your camcorder includes it's own light source? Good luck!
