I need a good camcorder for indoor filming.. (gymnastics)?

Q. I have been comparing camcorders online but can't figure out which will work best for me indoors.. they all talk about well lit situations. My daughter competes in Gymnastics and the competitions are settings similar to a school gym - where you are sitting at a good distance from your subject. I have noticed that the digital camcorders that I have been looking at do not have lights (tho I'm sure a light wouldn't help in my situation anyway). Have any of you found a camcorder that does well (or even OK) indoors where the subject is at least 50 feet away?

I appreciate any suggestions.

A. Consumer camcorders do not do well in low light because they have small lenses and small imaging chips. You are correct, a light will not help you - at 50 feet away, that is too far for the video light to be effective - they are designed to work withinn about 10 feet.

In order to get good video, you need a camcorder with big lenses and big imaging chips. This will put you in the "pro-sumer" range.

For standard definition, this would be the Canon GL2, Sony DCR-VX2100 and Panasonic DVX100.

For high definition (and standard definition) this puts you in the Sony HDR-FX1000, Canon XHA1... and they go higher from there.
