How to upload videos from Kodak PlaySport Camcorder?

Q. I can't figure it out! I plugged it in with the USB cord and nothing came up. Then I tried inserting the memory card but nothing came up! How come it won't read?

A. Hi, Kodak palysport camcorder shoot videos in mov format. You can play it on quicktime but cannot import playsport video to windows media player or real player. You need a video converter to convert kodak playsport video to other popular formats more friendly to windows such as wmv, mpg.

Recommend you a professional kodak video converter which can help you to convert playsport video to other popular formats with just a few mouse click at high speed.

http://www.kodak-video-converter.com/index.html

BTW, Realplayer is for rm, rmvb, windows media player is for wmv, avi, mpg formats. You may download the trial version for evaluation. Hope it can help you.

Kodak Playsport Camcorder?
Q. I have a Kodak Playsport Camcorder. I need to buy a back up battery for a trip. Where do you recommend I get this. It is a KLIC 7004. I also need another SD card. My current one came with the camcorder and is a Kodak Video Memory Card for 90 minutes. Do I have to but the same card or can I just get a 8GB MICROSD card??

A. i use the same battery for my kodak digital camera, and imho the kodak version works better than the generics i got on eBay. you have a wide selection of third party memory card sizes and styles. be sure and get a class 6 card.

Awesome Camcorder, Cheap Price?

Q. Does anyone know of a good camcorder that has the specs of an expensive camcorder but for a cheap price?
Under $150.00-$200.00, AVI or WMV format, lightweight, rechargeable (AC or USB) and supports 16:9.
Please provide product name, information, specs, where can I get it, etc.

Please, don't say "Get the Flip camcorder," I tried those, they suck, not great to work with...

http://www.youtube.com/uZuMaKi777z

A. AVI is not a video format, its a container that hold the video (like a box) the video inside can be almost anything. I remember that there was some cameras that recoded video as a WMV but that was ages ago.

you need to have an idea of what media you want to record to at that price you are probably looking at flash drive, that will give you the size and any reasonable one will allow you to recharge the batteries. If you are looking for better specs then you are going to have to spend more money, quality comes at a price.

If your budget is that then have a look at second hand ones, both Sony and Canon do reconditioned ones, normally a good saving, or look in the local paper.

You say "to work with" what do you want the camera for, cameras at this price are not the greatest in quality, they deliver good video, but.........

Good luck

Camcorders?
Q. What is the best brand for digital camcorders? JVC? SAMSUNG? ETC?

A. For years, I've done just fine by JVC, Canon, Sony, and Panasonic. I currently use a Panasonic camcorder (PV-GS65) at home, and have recommended a Panasonic professional camcorder (AG-HVX200) for a university TV organization, and we've been happy with both. Those cameras were selected for having the features we needed at the best price available. I'm not necessarily saying "go with Panasonic." There are other great brands out there, and any one of them is good if it meets your needs. It all depends on what you need to do with your camcorder.

Look at reviews and specifications. What do you want to do with your camcorder? Do you want to try editing, or do you simply want the easiest way to show video to your family? Do you plan on doing a lot of night shooting, or is spectacular performance in good light enough for you? Do you want a variety of manual control options? Where do you plan on using the camcorder? Do you plan on using an external microphone with your camcorder?

In short, find out exactly what you plan to use it for, and find out which one best meets your needs. The major brands have all been doing this for a long time, and all have a tendency to put out quality products.

What's the best HD camcorder to buy under 400€?

Q. I want to buy a good HD camcorder for under 400, do you think there are any?

400=350Pounds=581$.

Thank you!

A. Well when i was looking for a camcorder, i had an £80 budget. And i bought the Toshiba P10 camcorder, i've not had it very long but im really impressed with it as its easy to use and compact. i'd recommend it anyday

any good video or minidv camcorders under $400?? that would be good for low buget filming! but HD?
Q. i wanted to know if anyone knows of any really good camcorders for under $400 that can still give great picture and sound ???

until i am able to save up for a better one

A. New?

The only high definition miniDV tape camcorders that are available new are the Canon HV40 or the Sony HDR-HC9. They are 2x-3x your stated budget.

There are used and refurbished HV30 and HDR-HC7, HC5 and HC1 camcorders out there, but their prices vary too much and availability is very spotty.

Which camcorder is better?

Q. Which one is better overall...

-Panasonic HDC-HS700K
-Panasonic HDC-TM700K
-Canon HF S21
-Sony HDR-XR550V

A. I would recommend Sony HDR-XR550V.

* High quality video
* High quality still photos
* Internal hard disk drive, means no switching tapes
* Can use MemoryStick Pro Duo or SD memory cards
* Manual focus knob
* Small size

This camcorder takes absolutely stunning HD video and stills. I owned the HDR-XR500V which I absolutely loved. In addition to all the great features on the HDR-XR500V, the HDR-XR550V includes an electronic viewfinder and also provides manual shutter speed control. It also offers a non-native 60p output option and in-camera standard definition downconversion. The latter is an especially welcome addition, giving users the ability to record and archive their footage in the highest quality, then export and edit with the smaller, more manageable MPEG-2 files.

Perhaps the most exciting new feature on the HDR-XR550V is the new memory card slot: a single slot that is compatible with both Memory Stick PRO Duo cards and traditional SD/SDHC cards. This new slot will be featured on Sony's entire Handycam lineup this year, giving users unprecedented flexibility in sticking with Sony's proprietary memory format or opting for the more univeral SD/SDHC cards.

I personally love the GPS tagging feature, although I wish it would offer more detailed maps.

The HDR-XR550V has increased hard drive capacity to 240GB, which gives me plenty of recording time.

how to become a employee making documentaries in the national geographic or discovery channels?

Q.

A. well, those are very elite jobs, so you need to be a rather elite filmmaker and scientist to really make it. You would get a good start by pursuing a dual degree in filmography and geography or some other specialized field (natural science, anthropology, etc.). The more elite the school, the better- I imagine most of their people are ivy league.

Then in your junior or senior year of college, you would want to get an internship with them, like this one:

http://sh.webhire.com/servlet/av/jd?ai=521&ji=1790824&sn=I

You will need some investment money or some very financially-supportive parents, because you'd probably have to relocate and you wouldn't get paid much, if anything. But that's your big foot in the door, and from there it's a matter of becoming a valuable member of the team and showing them what you're worth!

It's a VERY competitive field to get into, but if this is somethiong you've worked towards your whole life, then it's definitely in the realm of possibility. But just remember, anything like that is all or nothing- if you're not 100% invested into it, then those people who are will beat you to it. A lot of these people were making little camcorder films and writing their first doccumentry screenplays in spiral notebooks when they were in middle school, so you need to ask yourself if you can become that enthralled and committed to doccumentary filmmaking, and if you have the tremendous creative and intellectual talent needed to be one of the best. NG and DSC can afford to only hire the best, so that's what you need to strive for.

Inexpensive, good, and maybe even HD camera for filmmaking?

Does anybody know of a good HD camcorder $400 or under?

Q. Well I just need a camcorder that can shoot in 1080p or above. Thanks

A. the JVC Everio camcorder is an excellant camcorder that takes very good, high-quality videos. Plus it's picture mode is amazing. I use it all the time for photo shoots. Especially at my brothers hockey and soccer games, it captures action shots GREAT! All you do is take maybe and hour and a half to charge it by plugging the AC cable in the wall to the back of the camcorder. And to upload, you have a USB cable which connects to your computer, to the front of the camcorder and pictures download quickly. For videos, it comes with a fantastic free program called PowerDirector which is simular to Windows Movie Maker but has a lot more effects which can be added! You must upload your video to this program anyway if your would like to upload it onto a site (e.g. Youtube, Facebook) to turn it into a MPEG file.
Check out Future Shop or Best Buy for your best deal. Both stores should have the camcorder included with a battery, an AC cable, an AV cable, USB cable, a shoulder strap, Remote Control and all software devices included. Check it out!

Camcorder in $350-400 range?
Q. I am looking for a good camcorder for around $350-400. I would prefer a flash based or HDD memory. For me, video quality is key, I would really like a High Definition one, but really high standard definition might have to suffice for my price range. I am going to actually be shooting a real movie. Ive got some of the most professional editing software, boom mics, ect... I just need a great camera to match. Like I said, 400 bucks is my max.

A. Panasonic 40GB HDD Camcorder - Normally $350, on sale for $328.
http://www.abt.com/product/34158.html

Panasonic 60 GB HDD Camcorder - Normally $499, on sale for $419.
http://www.abt.com/product/35305.html

Sony 60GB HDD Camcorder - Normally $550, on sale for $398.

I know that the Panasonic 60 GB is a little over your price range, but Abt.com has free shipping and no tax on these products (as long as you don't live in IL, WI, MI, or IN).

Can all camcorders take pictures?

Q. I'm looking for a camcorder that takes good quality videos, and I also need it to take pictures that I can put on a website. Can pretty much all camcorders nowadays do this?

A. Consumer camcorder? Most can - but since they were designed to capture video (and audio), that is what they do well. Capturing stills is a "convenience feature" and they generally do not do that very well.

Conversely, most consumer still-image capture devices can capture video (and audio) but do not do it very well - they were designed to capture still images and can generally do that very well.

camcorders?
Q. I would like to buy a camcorder/video recorder for Christmas. It needs to be able to record at night/dark light can anyone recomend any as I don't have a clue! there is a Sony DCR52 in comet that's reasonably priced. Doesn't necessarily need to take still pics as I already posses a cracking camera.
Can anybody recomend one?

A. well, the camcorder i just got for my birthday which was like a week ago, is a jvc gr-d770 mini dv camcorder and it is very very good, you can put your vids on the computer and take still pictures which you said you dont want but you might was well get that so you have a camera and a camcorder, but it has a bright bright led light on it and its just amazing, here is the link from walmart
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5621883

but if your looking for a camcorder with night vision then its going to cost a lot of money and really its not worth it, just get one with a light
but hope this helps

Cheap Camcorder with Good Quality?

Q. i am looking for a good camcorder less than 300 dollars with good focus and quality.

A. HD camcorders interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. It looks like this -one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, from front to back of the video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi processor computer with the big Graphics and sound cards that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files a HD camcorder produces.

Consumer level HD camcorders have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording consumer level HD camcorder, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer level HD camcorders all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes four different times advertised as maximum record time for some consumer level HD camcorders. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition. And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video.

High-Def Camcorder Quality?
Q. I looking into buying an HD Camcorder such as the SR7, SR11, or SR12.

I was wondering, if I will be able to achieve the professional looking quality , but more specifically the COLOR as in movies; as apose to the faded out, bright colors in home videos.

I just want to know if I will be able to achieve those results, even if it requires the use of computer software.

(Finally, can someone say which of the 3 cameras above is best)

Thank You.

A. Yes you can achieve similar recorded quality, but not exactly as great as professional camcorders. The difference is that the consumer camcorders you chose have consumer lenses, image sensors, and video processing systems while the lenses, video chips, and other electronics on the professional camcorders are much, MUCH better. Some people may not realize or care about the difference in the "feel" of the video, but many will notice it.

If you can afford these consumer Sony Models, then you can also afford the professional Sony HVR-HD1000 (high definition) http://motionpicturecentral.com/book/camcorders/sony/sony-hvr-hd1000-high-definition-1080i-single-cmos-hdv-professional-camcorder or the Panasonic Pro AG-DVC20 (standard definition). The Sony HVR-A1 http://motionpicturecentral.com/story/sony-hvr-a1-compact-single-cmos-high-definition-1080i-hdv-professional-camcorder or the newer HDR-FX1000 http://motionpicturecentral.com/story/sony-hdr-fx1000-handycam-hdv-professional-camcorder may also be within reach.

If you have to get the consumer camcorders, there is a way you can give the look and feel of professional video to your home movies. You will need to purchase a professional video editing program such as Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, Final Cut Pro, Thomson Grass Valley EDIUS, or Avid Media Composer. These programs can cost a few hundred dollars to as much as your camcorder. With this video editing software, you can adjust the visual characteristics of the video (gamma, color, and more) to make home videos seem more professionally filmed.

Your best bet is to use the money you were going to use on the consumer cameras and purchase a basic professional camcorder for the same price.

1 of Panasonic Pro AG-DVC7 MiniDV Proline Camcorder w/15x Optical Zoom?

Q. We are looking at buying this camcorder...My husband and I are currently in the wedding photography business and are looking to expand to the videography part of it. We do not have a lot of $ to spend, but we would like a good starter camera.... can anyone tell me a little about this camera.... can you download footage right to your computer? Is this a good starter camera? What else do we NEED that does not come with the usual basic camera? Thank you in advance!!!

A. The Panasonic AG-DVC7 miniDV tape based standard definition camcorder that has been discontinued.

This shoulder mount unit was the low-end of the professional line. As a shoulder mount, it is very helpful to keep a steady shot when you must be portable because of the shoulder mount capability - just like the news folks and their shoulder mount units. In your case, it is probably better to use some sort of other steadying device - fluid head tripod (Manfrotto, Libec) to start. Later, a GlideCam/SteadyCam system or camera crane (Kessler) can be considered.

This camera has only a 43mm diameter lens. It also has a single 1/4" imaging chip and 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo audio in jack. In my opinion, these are more "consumer grade". That this is in the pro lineup is most likely because of the shoulder-mount form factor.

Since we don't know what you are planning to pay for the AG-DVC7, it is a bit difficult to make other recommendations - but because the high definition wave is upon us, you might consider looking into the Sony HVR-HD1000U. It has essentially the same lens/imaging chip/mic input, and is a shoulder mount, but it provides the option of capturing standard definition DV, DV widescreen and high definition HDV format video to miniDV tape. Another worth looking at is the Sony HDR-FX7.

Other than the tripod... Mics and lights.
Mics: This can be a simple as a shotgun mic cabled to the audio-in jack. The cable needs to be long enough so the camcorder can be put in an unobtrusive place and the mic close enough to get the video. If the cable is longer than 12 feet, you should use shielded cable (so interference is not picked up and recorded). This could move you into a pro-grade mic - which uses XLR connectors. To connect XLR to 1/8", you need an XLR adapter - like those from juicedLink (CX231) or BeachTek (DXA-6).
Or...
A wireless clip-on mic or mics. Stay away from the low-end ones. They are usually in the FM, 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz or 5.8 GHz RF spectrum - these are shared with garage door openers, home cordless phones, wifi networks and others - and the base stations are subject to picking up interference from these and other sources. VHF is acceptable - UHF is best. Sennheiser, Audio Technica and Shure make the best units - but they are expensive.

Lights: This can be a simple as a camera mount light with built-in rechargeable battery (short illumination time) to a battery-belt powered pro system. Bescor and NRG Research are good sources.

Editing: MiniDV tape based camcorder have a DV port. This connects to a computer with a firewire cable - and connects to the computer's firewire port. USB will not work. USB-to-DV cable/converter/adapter things do not work. If your computer does not have a firewire port, hopefully it has an available expansion slot so you can add one. When the firewire cable is connected to the camcorder's DV port and the computer's working firewire port - and the camcorder is in Play mode (and the camcorder is plugged into an AC outlet), launch the computer's video editor and capture ot import the video. MovieMaker is included with Windows XP (SP2 or newer), Vista (and Windows 7). There is no version of MovieMaker and Windows XP that can deal with importing HDV and only certain combinations of Vista and MovieMaker that can. Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere are the usual suspects. iMovie comes with Mac OSX and can deal with HDV (going back to iMovieHD 05). Final Cut is a step up for Macs.

Standard def DV will import to a computer and use about 14 gig of computer hard drive space. High definition HDV will import to the computer and use about 44 gig of computer hard drive space.

You will also want one or two high capacity rechargeable batteries from the camcorder manufacturer. The battery included in the box with the camcorder has a very short record time.

GOOD LUCK!

Best camcorder for under $400.....I'm sad, nobody is answering me :(?
Q. I am looking for a good camcorder between the $200-$400 range. I am getting up early to take advantage of the black Friday deals. Looking at all the millions of reviews and ratings on the millions of different types of camcorders is starting to give me a migraine. Two important functions I am looking for is decent recording time and easy to transfer to computer. All suggestions and opinions will be greatly appreciated! Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving

A. 1. Canon ZR600 Digital Camcorder
This digital camcorder by Canon has a 25x optical and 800x digital zoom. The ZR600 has a large amount of pre-set shooting modes, a great lens, and built in digital camera with a SD/MMC slot for storing digital photos. This camcorder is great for video beginners and has enough features that more advanced camcorder users will be happy too.

5. Sony DCR-HC26 Digital Camcorder
The DCR-HC26 by Sony is the same camcorder as Sonys DCR- HC26 with the exception of the digital camera. If you are not going to use the digital camera feature on the camcorder then the DCR-HC26 can save you money.

Pocket HD Camcorder with optical image stabilization?

Q. anyone knows a pocket camera with these features? Sanyo Xacti cameras don't have it. And it's the same for: Kodak zi8, creative vado, flip, samsung and so on..
I really need optical image stabilization in a pocket sized hd camera.
Flip Mino has only DIGITAL image stabilizer. I'm looking for a cam with optical (hardware) image stabilization

A. I believe the Panasonic Lumix DMC ts1 has optical image stabilization. It is a 12 mega pixel digital camera and it comes with 720p HD video and an internal microphone. It gives great quality images and, a plus, can go in the water up to 10 feet! If you can wait til mid march, Panasonic is shipping the Panasonic Lumix DMC ts2 that can go up to 33 feet under water and improved video capabilities with other features.

Google: Panasonic Lumix DMC ts2

What Would be a Good Camcorder for me at Walmart or any Other Place?
Q. My ideal camcorder would have great motion processing and good image stabilization. I plan on recording breakdancing, freerunning, tricking, and skateboarding so I would need those to be a necessity in the camcorder.
HD and good resolution would also be good.
Price I would like is to be around 200$ or lower. Not sure if this is actually feasible at a normal consumer market, but if it there's a camera even similar I would like to know please.

A. Getting a HD camcorder is taking a step backward in Video Quality. HD camcorders Interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly, the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. JVC Everio GZ-HM1 of Cannon hf s200?

Q. I like both but which do you think would be better quality for short films. Audio, Image Stabilization and Other Settings? Or it there any other good camcorders below 700?
I also really like the Panasonic hmk 700

A. The JVC is a great camera, but being a year old in the camcorder world means ready for replacement.

The HFS200 is definitely history... that's why the big price cut.

I'd look at this much lighter and smaller camera in March

How can i get my samsung camcorder to work on my mac book?

Q. I bought a samsung camcorder and a mac book to star making a editing home vidios. when trying to connect them using a firewire cable to star editing i found out that SAMSUNG camcorders are not compatable with mac books (imovies)
Is their any way i can make them compatable???

A. It's true that Apple doesn't list any Samsung camcorders as compatible with iMovie. Befrore you consider tossing your Samsung and buying another brand, let's consider what iMovie needs. The only way to import data from a camcorder to iMovie is by Firewire (IEEE 1394) connection. Does your Samsung have Firewire connector? If not, you can copy the movie data to your MacBook hard drive and then open the movie file in iMovie. Here is what Apple says about that:

"To use your video camera to import directly into an iMovie HD project, you must connect it using the FireWire ports on your video camera and your computer. Some cameras label the FireWire port "iLink" and some hide the port under a cover or door. Some cameras have both FireWire ports and USB ports (for downloading still images to iPhoto, for example).
Plug the 4-pin connector into your video camera and the 6-pin connector into your computer. If you're still not sure if your video camera has a FireWire port, check its manual.

Keep in mind that you need to switch your video camera to VCR, VTR, or camera mode and turn the power on when you import to iMovie HD. It's a good idea to plug in your camera's AC adapter to prevent the battery from running down while you're importing.

If you camera uses an MPEG-4 solid-state card or has a USB port and not a FireWire Port, you can transfer your video files to your computer via the USB port. When you connect your MPEG-4 device to your computer using a USB cable, your camera or device appears as a hard disk on your desktop. You can then open the device's icon and drag the MPEG-4 files into your iMovie HD projects."

camcorder for skateboarding?
Q. ive been doing a little bit of skatebaord photography. but now i also want to do some filming of it and also film some other stuff like dance videos and stuff.
my budget is only about $350 so i need a camcorder that is hd and is great all around. also that i can attach a fisheye lens for example. if not can i atttach like an adapter of some sort

thanks for any answers
i was looking at a JVC Everio GZHD3 is that fine? if not im going to go with a jvc everio hm200
i also saw the everio hm300 and the toshiba h30.
can i attach a lens

A. Get your cheque book out and hope they take post dated cheques. It would cost you in excess of $3500 to get a HD camcorder that could begin to come close to the video Quality of a $300 MiniDV tape camcorder. If you going to be shooting movement, as skateboarding is, avoid consumer level HD camcorders like the plague. C.L. HD camcorders, when shooting video, even a simple lifting of ones arm create ghost images and screen artifacts in the video itself. Terrible for sports.

You can get a Canon ZR 930 fro $300. It uses MiniDV tape for video storage and has a Mic jack. With that port, you have no excuse for poor audio in a video.

As for fisheye lense, they sell all kinds of lenses and adapters on Ebay, just do a search for what ever lense you want by entering your camera model and the type of lense your looking for. And I think a wide angle lense would be better.

Antique camcorder(First portable one ever!)?

Q. I've been looking at buying this camcorder here. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/160695287131 And was wondering if anyone knows how well would the picture quality of a lens of this sort rate on the megapixel scale?

-John J

A. don't put much stock in the hype, do your research first before putting out the money.
first, Sony did not invent the camcorder, so to say this model was the "first" is a gross mis-statement. The BMC 110 is probably the first Betamovie camcorder in 1983, only a Beta expert would say for sure. The camcorder was invented by Kodak, here in the USA. Kodak partnered with Sony in 1981 to make the first camcorder, and this was not it. The first used what we now call Video8 format and was compact. It did not sell well at first mostly because RCA had not yet invented the CCD which was the key component for making quality video in small cheap packages. Kodak pulled out after the first year and left Sony with a license to use the Video8 system. By 1985 Sony had cross licensed with Ampex and thereby finally got access to the RCA CCD imager for its BMC 550 model and other video cameras.

As to portable color cameras, they were around long before. Both VHS and Beta had battery portable camera/recorders prior to camcorders. And what was known as the "porta-pack" or portable camera and recorder was around long before VHS and Beta, it used 1/2 inch open reel tape in the EIAJ format in the late 60s and later the 3/4 inch U-matic cassettes in the early 70s.

These earlier color cameras, and the camera section of the BMC110 used a single tube imager. Resolution of the imager was poor, about 200 TVL in the 1/3 inch consumer version. But considering that Betamax itself was only 230 TVL, that was an acceptable match. Converting that to the digital equivalent in pixels, that would be about 0.064 Megapixel resolution. In terms of light sensitivity it required 35 lux minimum, compared to 2 lux of a modern camcorder.

If you want an early camera with decent resolution, you need to look at the EDBeta or the Betacam versions of about 1986. Both of these produced a near broadcast quality, but they were not consumer items by a long shot.

How good is the Kodak Zi6 compared to other portable handheld cameras?

A. Flip UltraHD Camcorder is alot better than the Zi6

Review:
If I'm going to spend more than a hundred bucks on an item or somewhere around there, I do extensive research first to know I got the best bang-for-the-buck and, consequently, dodge any potential future buyer's remorse.

I've realized that the time I spend doing my product comparisons is often time that others don't have so I may as well share what I can.

I'll start by saying that you'll see my "Verified Amazon Purchase" on the Flip HD Ultra Camcorder review because, obviously, that's the one I wound up buying and I'll share with you why. But what I like in a camcorder may not suit your own needs so I'll break it down and let you decide what's best for you via what I found out:

Here are the pocket camcorders I compared:

Flip UltraHD (will be referred to as "F")
Flip Mino HD 2nd generation (Will be referred to as "M")
Creative Labs Vado HD 8 GB 2nd generation (Will be referred to as "CL")
Kodak Zi6 Pocket HD (Will be referred to as "K")

Why HD cameras only? Brighter colors and better images, wider images

HD SHOOTING TIME:
F: 120 minutes.
M: 120 minutes
CL:120 minutes
K: 25 minutes with batteries they included, 120 minutes if you buy an SD card

MEMORY:
F: 8 GB
M:8 GB
CL: 8 GB
K: internally only 30 MB recording space but it has 32 GB expandable SD/SDHC card slot. Because it comes with such small recording space you really need to buy an SD or SDHC card to maximize its potential, but the potential is really good and this will increase your ability to shoot longer.

RESOLUTION:
All 720p which is excellent, just one step below the top 1080p format.

SOUND:
F:Premier AAC audio. Best sound quality but still not great in winds
M:Premier AAC audio. Best sound quality but still not great in winds.
CL:Poor sound quality; had issues with sound and picture not being in sync.
K:Poor sound quality

ZOOM:
F: 2x
M:2x
CL:2x
K: poor quality zoom on the one I tried but I still think it's 2x. It has a great macro focus for very close-up objects if, for example, you see a bumble bee and want to shoot it on a leaf a few inches away! Kinda cool.

SIZE AND WEIGHT:
F: 6.2 x 3.1 x 3.1 inches ; 11.2 ounces
M: 2 x 0.7 x 3.9 inches ; 1 pound
CL: 3.3 x 7.9 x 6.3 inches ; 11.2 ounces
K: 4x 5x 2.5" 2.4 lbs

TECHNICAL DETAILS:
F: USB cable pops out of the back so you don't need to keep up with a separate cable. Comes with Flip Video rechargeable AA battery pack (recharges when connected to USB); also supported by standard AA batteries. Note: Some sets come with the HDMi mini included and others come with the rechargeable battery pack on Amazon. Looks like one or the other but of course if you need both you can buy the other.
M: USB cable pops out of the back on this one as well. Has child safe button to prevent accidental deletion of videos. Internal lithium ion battery recharges through built-in USB arm
CL: USB cable in camera. Included in box are HDMI cable, USB extension cable, silicon skin & rechargeable battery.
K: Included in box are HD and AV cables and wrist strap and rechargeable batteries and battery charger. Has built in USB arm.

SPEED:
F: 30 frames per second.
M: 30 frames per second
CL: 30 frames per second
K: choice of 30 frames per second or 60 frames per second.

VIEWING SCREEN: All 2" except the Kodak was the largest at 2.4"

IMPORTANT NOTES:
F: Best low-light performance for the mini cameras (though not perfect at all) and least amount of blurring and dropped frames in my opinion. You can get an underwater case for this one! Though that may sound crazy for a Texan, we use the camera non-stop on vacations and even when we aren't IN the water, we are around the water...on boats, in the sand with sea mist, etc. Then we can dive in and record the fish. Comes preloaded with flipshare software...just plug in to computer and it pops up.
M: Colors don't appear as good on the Mino as the other cameras. Thinnest camera. Make sure you get the one that only comes in the color aluminum or brushed metal. If it comes in any other colors it is the 1st generation MinoHD and they improved upon that one in the newer models. Great audio. Better shooting in low light than most mini cameras. Camera comes preloaded with FlipShare software. Can get still images through flipshare software.
CL: Decent filming in low light. Software is preloaded in camcorder.
K: The only camera in my list without image stabilization which results in very shaky filming. The others have built-in image stabilization to help correct it. What appears to be metal in picture is actually a chrome colored plastic. That said, this had the largest viewing screen of all of them. 2.4" Very poor in low light and seemed to have far more shaking and blurring due to lack of image stabilization. It also takes still pictures but they are really rea

I'm looking for a good camcorder to film Youtube videos?

Q. This will be my first camcorder and I'm looking for the best one I can find for about 200-400 dollars,
the things I'm looking for in the camcorder:
Optical Image Stabilizer
Auto Focus
Good sound
Good Lighting
I've read on some reviews on camcorders that they couldn't see in the sunlight or that it didn't film good at night...I need one that films good during night and day, and for me to be able to see myself film if it is sunny out.
I would like for the screen to flip over, so I could see myself film.
Extra things but not necessary:
I would like it to be a Sony
I would like it to be touch screen
and I would like it to have WI-FI
but like I said those aren't necessary

Thanks in advance!

Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi processor computer with the big Graphics and sound cards that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files a HD camcorder produces.

http://simplevideoediting.com/learn/part2_connect_camcorder.htm

And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video.

best camera and camcorders?
Q. i am looking for a great digital pocket camera or pocket camcorder under $300 plz help
hey pey what do you thinkof the olypus cameras

A. I like Canon cameras/camcorders and have the least expensive Canon Camcorder that does great video. Cameras take great pictures, but not great video.

Just saw this camera at Best Buy and think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has an optical viewfinder, image stabilizer, auto focus, and uses NiMH rechargeable batteries. Read as much of the following as you can for other information and help with choosing a camera.
Canon A590IS $149.99 at Best Buy store yesterday.
http://bountii.com/deal-1523871-canon-powershot-8-0-megapixel.html ...

There is no one particular place to get great buys, but you may see something above that really helps you find the best buy. Click on the link in the information above for an example then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.

While most of the cameras out there are really good, I would choose Canon over Nikon because it seems like more camera for the money. Some would say Canon withholds their best technology for high end cameras and Nikon implements their best at all levels. Before you decide, read all the text and links in the information below because it will help you know what to look for in a camera.

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but digital is definitely the way to go. The second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

What gives a camera its picture quality?
The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures.

In new cameras, look for optical viewfinders (LCD invisible in bright sun) and check battery prices. High mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures or enlarging small parts of big pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches.

Check this more for the money camera. FUJIFILM - FinePix 10.0-Megapixel Digital.
Life time Warranty (Parts & Labor).

Wide-angle shooting, a 12x optical zoom and picture stabilization mode combine in this camera for exceptional shooting performance, even at a distance. Plentiful scene modes, autofocus and automatic white balance controls make this camera a snap to operate. You may be able to find it on the Internet for a lower price.

The information about my camera is just to show that you don't need the biggest and best. Just know how to use the one you have.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own, but don't believe everything you hear. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual. Just learned that my camera has red-eye prevention and correction. It also has adaptive lighting. You may be able to view owners manuals at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

The source links will show most of the cameras out there with prices and help make your digital cameras work better.

Which Handycam is best ?

Q. I just confused between Canon VIXIA HF R21 and Sony HDR CX200 . Please tell me which one is the best camcorder ? Please don't look into the price and cost. Just forget about the cost and tell me which is the best in picture quality, life, zoom etc.

A. Since "Handycam" is Sony's generic brandname for ALL their consumer grande camcorders, then the HDR-CX200 would be the appropriate choice. However, As I understand it, the Canon HF-R21 has an external mic jack (the CX200 does not)... so I would go with the Canon if this is all we get to choose from.

As for "picture quality", that will depend on you - the person controlling the lighting and movement. "Life"? of a camcorder? In this case, they will be similar. Zoom is an irrelevant measurement. They both record to high-compression AVCHD files. They both are entry-level, consumer-grade camcorders. I hope you have a video editor (and powerful enough computer with lts of available hard drive space - better yet, external drive for video editing project files) to deal with them. No software in the box that the camcorders comes in is useful...

Sony 800x digital zoom handycam?
Q. I am trying to transfer a recorded video to a dvd. I cannot find the manual, so could someone explain how to do this for me?

A. You first have to capture the video. This can either be done with a usb or firewire 400 cable. Firewire is better though. Plug the camera in and turn it to the video playback mode, the screen with controls like ff rewind and so on. Connect the firewire or usb cable to your pc and turn on the camera. Now you need editing software like movie maker, imovie adobe premiere or final cut pro. Select capture video to hard drive in your program. A screen with controls will come up. Press the play buttton and then the capture or record button. You then have to wait for the tape to play right through in real time whilst the video is captured. After it is finished press stop. The video should appear as a file or a bunch of precut clips. Drag them onto the timeline and you are ready to start editing.

Series LXI VHS Camcorder value?

Q. I have an old probably at least mid 90s Series LXI VHS Camcorder in the basement with all the components (Carrying case microphone, etc). It's basically a tv news style camcorder that takes VHS tapes. Anybody know if anything like this has any value at all? It's in Good condition I'd say not great at all but good.
Don't be ignorant to the obvious. I know people don't use those anymore I was thinking for the value as a collectible if it is. And somebody who actually knows.

A. Trash it. As no one caries VHS tapes any more, and no one uses a VHS VCR on their TV any more, it will be of little use to anyone. Your cell phone takes better quality movies than a 20 year old VHS camera. I did find an online auction for a similar camera. The starting bid was $1. There were no bids on the product. http://www.shopgoodwill.com/auctions/Series-LXI-VHS-Camcorder-13207811.html

What is the best camcorder for film making under $600?

Q. I am an independent film maker in college, and im looking to buy an HD camcorder but im not sure what camera will provide a film look and be under $600 at the same time. PLEASE HELP!!

A. Canon HV20 no questions. Maybe the HV30, but I don't think it is good enough to pay that much more, almost 40 bucks. And also you will want a decent shotgun mic if you want good audio which could run another 100 dollars. So if you have a $600.00 budget this is what I would get....

Canon HV20 from: http://www.topchoicedigital.com/viewproduct.aspx?id=9956788&l=Froogle
Adzen ECZ 990 Shotgun Mic from: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/3646-REG/Azden_ECZ_990_ECZ_990_Super_Cardioid_Shotgun.html
Then invest the other approximate $100 into lighting, or making something that indymogul.com has made that you could use in your videos, check them out.

What is a Good Camcorder under $600?
Q. I'm looking for a camcorder under $600 (preferably) that is good for video blogging, like Youtube and just videoing at home, etc.

I would prefer something that is HD and is able to film in a fairly decent quality at night.

I do not want a Flip camera or something similar to that.

Thanks!

A. I recommend Canon FS11 Flash Memory Camcorder with 16GB Internal Flash Memory $569.99. The FS11 provides outstanding features such as 48x Advanced Zoom as well as an SDHC card slot for extended storage of your once-in-a-lifetime memories.

WHAT CAMCORDER DO I BUY? Any advice will help!?

Q. I'm going to get one in november. under 800 dollars (if possible)

I WAS looking at canon's hg10. But what would you think?

These are what I need on it:
Video light/nightshot
mic input
hd
hdd
Possibly an eye piece to look into (I want it but don't need it)

Give me ANY advice. ANYTHING will help.
the hg21 does NOT have a video light. I have looked at it before. Thanks for the idea though. I've looked at it before and maybe I'll think about it some more.

A. I would suggest Canon VIXIA HG21 AVCHD 120 GB HDD Camcorder
- HD 24Mbps offers the highest bit rate in AVCHD for HD video
- HDD Record up to 45 hours of High Definition video to a 120 GB HDD
- microphone terminal for attaching an external microphone
- Built-in Video Light enables you to shoot subjects in low-light at distances up to 4.9 feet away.

Need a good video camera for 800 dollars?
Q. I need a good video camera for around 800 dollars. and i dont want like a handycam thing, i want a nice solid camera with good video, and audio quality . Any suggestions?

A. Canon HV30 all the way! It's $780, so you'd be under the budget. It's an HD camcorder that records to cheap and convenient miniDV cassettes...and don't let anyone fool you: HDV is a lot better than HDD (hard drive) or DVD based camcorder for the following reasons:
1) better compatibility w/ more editing programs=easier to edit
2) easier to store and archive footage
3) better quality because of less compression

HV30

pros: excellent HD quality picture, amazing color saturation, truly instant autofocus, it also has a 24p mode (to make video look like film, which is good), and a mini-stereo input for external microphones

the mic input is HUGELY important for good audio, considering that NO camera has a decent on-board mic; you really nee to purchase an additional one....I recommend the RODE VideoMic shotgun microphone.

cons: poor manual controls--it's better as a point-and-shoot camera, HD footage is harder to edit, and requires a lot of hard drive space

but considering it's sooo good in automatic mode, it's lack of manual controls isn't too much of a problem....unless you are a manual control freak like me. But even so, you won't find a decent camera with decent manual controls under $2,000, so that's nothing to worry about.
As for media management, that's a problem on all HD cameras; they are a bit harder to edit.

Of course, if you're not totally convinced, there's always the Sony HDR-HC9 (or HC3), but I believe they a bit more expensive...besides they're Sonys :P

Well, I hope that helps....so good luck mitchellg103!

Canon 7D vs Nikon D7000 for video?

Q. I own a Canon 7D already, with a nice small collection of lenses and accessories, but recently saw some stunning photos taken with the Nikon D7000. I studied a lot with DSLR's before purchasing the 7D from a friend early summer this year (2013), being told that Canon is superior in video quality than other brands. However, after looking into this camera, I'm beginning to doubt it.

Should I make the transition to the D7000? Is it filmmaker friendly? I plan on trying to get my hands on one to test it out, but I'm just kind of skeptical.

A. I keep coming across stunning photos taken with very simple and basic point and shoots
Does that send me a message that my gear is lacking
No
It only tells me that I am lacking

Should video be so important to you, you could consider a $200 camcorder

Whats better the canon gl1 or the canon gl2?
Q. whats a better camera for filming the gl1 or gl2

A. Victor, as with all things in life, there is no such thing as "better" without qualifications.

Neither camera is good for filming since neither camera shoots film.

Neither camera is good for professional video.

Both cameras are adequate for upper end consumer grade video.

The GL1 is better if you're on a budget and can't afford a newer GL2.

Both cameras are pretty much dinosaurs though since they only shoot in Standard Definition and record to tape. All new camcorders worth buying shoot at least High Definition and record to flash memory of some type.

When I was in college from 1999-2003, we got about 10 Canon GL2's when they were brand new and as a one of the people who was in charge of maintaining them, I found that they broke constantly (particularly the plastic mount around the tripod socket and head/tape transport issues) and did poor white balance. On the good side, they performed well in low light and the built-in audio, though not XLR was very clean. Overall though, unless someone is giving you one now, I hardly think they're worth buying as they are going to be on their last legs in 2013.

Q. When I hook my jvc mini dv camcorder to my computer, the computer is not acknowleding the device. It didn' t have any software with it, nor does it say anything in the instructions. What do I do to download my video to my computer????

A. Assuming that you've used a firewire connection, the PC won't tell you there's a new device connected. Your video capture app will be able to see it though.

camcorder or dslr camera?

Q. Modern DSLR cameras (like Canon 7D, etc), can record Hi-def video, besides making pictures.
What you think, is it better to have a good camcorder and camera, or a good camera with video recording ability?

A. HD camcorders and DSLR Cameras interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi port processor computer with the big 1GB Graphics card and a Sound card that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files these camcorders and cameras produce.

Consumer Level HD camcorders and DSLR Cameras have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by Consumer Level HD camcorders and DSLR Cameras. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording Consumer Level HD camcorder or DSLR Camera, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer Level HD camcorders and DSLR Cameras all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes four different times advertised as maximum record time for some Consumer Level HD camcorders and DSLR Cameras. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders and or cameras or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

And couple with that, the fact that no DSLR camera, no matter what Model or Make, can not take a Video for 20 minutes non stop, they all overheat, shut down, then need several hours, most times overnight, to cool off.

And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that HD Camcorder that could produce higher quality video.

HD Camcorder or DSLR?
Q. Hi! I am interested to enter videography, and I also want to do photography. I am thinking to buy used devices for this, and I am choosing between Nikon D5100 ($500) and Sony XR150 ($300).

So here's the case, I am not rushing myself to buy a DSLR because I can still use my Sony H7 for photos. I want to do film like videos and experiment different settings. I do also want the XR150 because of 120GB memory that will allow me to record hours of video and of course longer battery life. But I also want to have a better quality photos. So my choices are;

1. Buy the Sony XR150 to record videos, and use my Sony H7 for a moment while I am saving money to buy used DSLR even without video capability like; Canon EOS 400D,T3, Nikon D5000, etc)
2. Buy the Nikon D5100 because it will give me better videos and better quality images. (will buy Canon EOS 600D if this is not available)

Which option should I choose? If you will suggest to choose number 1, what dslr would you suggest that is within my budget? And if you think there is another good HD camcorder within my budget, please let me know :)
Thank you!

Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi processor computer with the big Graphics and sound cards that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files a HD camcorder produces.

And all DSLR cameras are famous for their 20 minute maximum video taking time before they overheat and are done for the day. Hotter the day, shorter the video taking time that is available also in effect.

Best video Quality to be had is by MiniDV tape camcorders, shooting DV and HDV video. To get a DSLR or HD camcorder that could shoot as good or better Quality Video, you could not obtain a camcorder or DSLR that could do for under $3500

Does my camcorder have an xlr adapter for audio inputs?

Q. I have a Canon vixia hf100 camcorder HD, Thanks in advance

A. From the canon site - AV Mini Terminal/Headphone Terminal3.5 mm 4 pole Mini-jack - is what this camcorder has. You can get a Microphone with a XLR end on it, simply get a cord with a XLR end on one end and a 3.5 MM end on the other end. Or go XLR to XLR, get a mixer and then then cable to camera from there.

See what i use to capture audio - http://asimplelife.ca/boss.html

Good Digital HD camera with XLR input?
Q. I need a good Digital HD camera to shoot impromptu scenes, and I'd prefer it have some XLR input for recording audio from a wireless receiver. My budget for the camera is around $500, and it must be captured to a card and not a tape. I know this severely limits me, but I wanted to see what my options are nonetheless.

Thanks!
Okay, two things I need to reiterate:

1. I do NOT want to deal with tapes. I need a camera that will capture video directly to an SD card or something similar.
2. Around $500 means anywhere from $0 - $600 maximum. It does not mean going three times over the amount specified.

I'm not looking for maximum production quality; I'm looking for speed in getting ready to shoot.

A. I agree with Ryan and lare... a bit more...

First, on XLR inputs. There is no high definition camcorder or camera in your price range that has XLR audio-in connectors - but you *might* be able to use an XLR adapter (refer to BeachTek or juicedLink)... so the camera or camcorder needs to have at least a 1/8" (3.5mm stereo audio input that the XLR adapter can plug into. Since these XLR adapters run about $300 (you *should* have phantom power available so your mic choices are not limited), that leaves $300 for your camcorder or camera budget. As far as I know, there are no decent cameras or camcorders for $300 that have a mic jack of any kind - or if they do, their lenses and imaging chip are so small that anything less than daylight will result in grainy lowlight video being captured (or adding a video light - whch adds to your budget).

Since you specified high definition to flash memory, - and we assume you want to edit - this also means that your computer needs to be able to deal with either AVCHD-compressed MTS files (same with the video editor you plan to use) or MOV files (and Windows editors will need a transcoder to convert those to something more useful like WMV).

So... before anyone can make any sort of specific recommendation, knowing the complete environment and making a more informed recommendation will save you lots of frustration in the future... The closest camcorder I cant get you to is something in the Canon HF M series - the HF R series *might* work, but doubtful - in either case, the XLR adapter will be needed.

Are there any low-end camcorders that take an external mic?

Q. I would be happy with a prosumer one for under $300 but the only real requirement is an external mic. It'll be used for both outdoor and indoor interviews.

A. pro-sumer would be more like a grand. the Kodak Zi10 playtouch has mic input.

Examples of consumer level hd digital camcorders with external mic input?
Q. It seems that in recent times the external mic input is quite hard to find on the low end digital cameras. I just bought an HD sanyo for just a couple of hundred and I'm very happy with the picture, but I really need an external mic. Does anybody know of a similar product with this function? There are a million and one lovely little hd video cameras out there now...but I want to find the cheapest option with this function. Thank you for your help!

A. If I bend over, and spread my hairy ass cheeks. Then you stick your hands in my unwipped butt hole. You can find one. It will be covered in shit and the flash will just spray poo everywhere but youw ill have one. I'll be recording before hand so please upload the video to youtube and send me the link.
