Looking for a reasonabally priced camcorder to record golf swing?

Q. I am looking to purchase a camcorder to record my golf swing. I am not looking to spend $3,000 on something like the Minolta Swing Vision camera you see them using on TV with the 4000 frames per second. Does anyone have any recommendations for camcorders they have used to record their golf swings that are reasonably priced? Thanks!

A. The ONLY consumer cameras that even approach what you want are a few of the higher-end Sony consumer camcorders that have the "smooth slow record" feature. Be advised that even though these camcorders are considered "high definition", when the smooth slow record" feature is invoked, the video quality is degraded (and no longer high definition).

How can I capture live video from a camera into PC at 300 FPS?
Q. I have a camcorder and a camera which can be connected to the PC. Is there a software that allows me to capture live video from the camcorder directly into my PC at 300FPS? Adobe Premiere allows 30FPS max.
Thanks.
The reason I need this is because I want to record myself performing a golf swing. The club will be traveling at over 100mph and I will playback the video in ultra slow motion.

A. sorry, you're going to need a high speed camera first. consumer cameras don't have the frame rate to do what you want.
check out the link below it's just up your alley as it demonstrates capturing a golf swing... plus it records onto a memory card easily transferable to pc..

Can I carry a camcorder and laptop in flight?

from USA via amsterdam

A. sure...just put the camcorder in your hand baggage.

Camcorders and airport security?
Q. I'm flying next week, and I'm going to be taking my camcorder. The camcorder will be in its own case which I'll keep in my carry on bag. My question is do I have to take my camcorder out if its case, or do I have to just take the camcorder case out of my carry on or can I just leave it in the carry on bag.

And also would I be allowed to take videos with the camcorder within the airport, just of my family and friends.

A. that would depend on how big it is.
if its a small hand held one that uses mini vhs tapes, mini dvds, or an sd card then its fine to keep it in your carry on.
if its a larger one that uses full size vhs tapes and you hold it on your shoulder to use it cuz its big and heavy then you will need to take it out of your carry on and out of its case and place it in a grey bin provided to you for it to go through the x-ray machine separately.

yes you can take videos of your family in the airport.

What is citizen journalism? how u can be a citizen journalist?

Q. i heard citizen journalism is a new concept in journalism area, but i need detail idea about that. What all are the portal is working in this area. How i or one can be a citizen journalist?

A. When ordinary citizens from small villages in central India to bloodied demonstrators in the streets of Tehran to 70,000 registered citizen journalists on one Asian website to the historical society in Silverton, Colo. find, research and report the news - that is citizen journalism. It is happening spontaneously and with very little planning, training, testing or projecting what will happen next or where it will go. Ordinary citizens all around the world who have a computer, i-phone, web-cam, video camera, blog, website, or maybe just a photocopy machine are writing, producing and reporting news however they can. It is a revolution in journalism. If YOU want to be a citizen journalist - you can. Just pick up your pen or video camera or computer and start reporting. Need some training? Take a look at the ONLY book written for citizen journalists, "Handbook for Citizen Journalists." You can Google it.

Will Isreal release the security/journalist video that they took and still have?
Q. The Israelis shot a camera man as he was taking pictures and after commandeering the boat into Israel took all the security and video tapes. Will they now release it unedited and complete, release it after deleting sections that they don't like or even adding new video, or not release it at all?

A. No. and if they have to there is always photoshop. The first thing they did in there last little pillage and looting campaign into Gaza was to ban the international press and try to kill all Al Jazeera journalists. The second thing they did was to proceed to bomb UN schools and hospitals to eliminate them as observers. Then after the fact they denounced the Goldstone report which pointed out all the
no-no they did as well as the no-nos Hamas did. But they are the "good guys" right? All people are equal but some are more equal than others.

What is the best camcorder for recording piano?

Q. Live piano on a grand, not a digital. Which camcorder would give me the best sound quality for a youtube video, perhaps?

A. Consumer-grade camcorders don't record audio very well. They have such small microphones and some are only mono and not stereo. Plus you have no control over balance and gain of the audio. One better-than-nothing suggestion is choosing a camcorder with a microphone jack and using a good quality mic will help a lot. But the best way to record audio, especially piano is with a audio recording device, like a Zoom H4n or other recorder. Using a recorder with allow you to balance the inputs and set the proper gain. And you can use more then one microphone (channels). You still shoot your video but use the audio from the recorder to replace the audio of the video in your video editing program. The use of field recorders and mating the audio to film is done all the time in major motion pictures.

A less than appealing video will be acceptable if the sound is appeasing. But a great video with bad audio is very unappealing.

What kind of video cameras do people use at concerts that get such good sound quality?
Q. I've watched a few videos on youtube and they have excellent sound quality. I was curious to see what kind of cameras they may have been using.

A. two options. 1 they use the audio from the CD album and not the concert sound. or 2 they use an audio recorder to get the live concert sound. getting the best video pictures runs contrary to getting the best audio, you can't do both with the same camcorder without a lot of compromise of quality. The editing process allows combining video and audio from different sources and matching them. in the old days, i used a portable beta HiFi video recorder just for the audio. unlike analog audio recorders, video runs at precise speed, making it easier to match up in the linear editing process. today you can chose from a number of good digital audio recorders, such as the Olympus LS10 that produce digital files that are ideal for use with a non-linear digital video editor.

What tools and devices (camera, editing software) do I need to make a Makeup tutorial on youtube?

Q. Hello, I want to start doing hair and makeup tutorials on youtube. However, I don't know how to make and edit a video. what kind of camera/camcorder do i need and also any kind of video editing software for my computer? thank you very much.

A. Any sort of camera should work aslong as you have the necessary wires to connect it to the computer, depending on if your using a PC or a mac you could use windows movie maker or imovies both are very easy to use.

For the camera part of the question you would probably only need to shoot a portrait shot of yourself so even a webcam could work (if you don't mind the quality). But if you're thinking of buying a camera you'd want a good quality one to get the details of the makeup so something cheap like an HD flip camera could be good.

What is the best free video editing software?
Q. I've found a few but they all have just a free trial and then I have to pay for it. I need a video editing software that is free download for ever. Like Windows Movie Maker, but not Windows Movie Maker. I tried Windows Movie Maker, but it makes the video go really slow with a really deep voice then speed up to really high voice like what? So please help me find a free video editor please and thank-you <3

A. A program with over 2000 effects, easy to learn and can do things Windows movie Maker could never do. Another program with even more effects and Timeline space also.

Which camcorder is better canon or Sony?

Q. I want to buy a HD camcorder for home use. I found canon HF R20 in a store near me on sale for 282$, online price is around 400$, but it's an older model which is discontinued by canon and some stores still have it. I also found Sony HDRCX 190 which is around 270-300$. When I read their description they look the same to me. Is the difference in price because canon is a better brand? Is canon for 282$ a steal or is better to go with a newer Sony?

A. Hi Ms.Z:

I don't know where online you've been looking, but almost everywhere I've looked, the Canon HF-R20 is selling around that same $280 price (Canon USA currently sells it on its website for $349).

[They also sell the HF20 factory-refurbished in either Silver, Black, or Red for $249 at Canon Direct: http://shop.usa.canon.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10051_10051_302514_-1 ].

Walmart & Target currently sell the Sony CX190 for $269.

I own both Sony & Canon camcorders, and both are very good brands. (Sony makes more models that are used by TV stations & networks than Canon, but Canon makes more pro-TV lenses.)

Personally, I don't think either one is that great, although you get 8Gb of internal memory with the Canon model (none in the Sony) and the Canon will hold 2 SD cards at the same time (just one with the Sony). The Sony has a longer optical zoom-factor (25x compared to Canon's 20x). But you should read a couple of reviews for each model and make your own decision:

CNet Review (May 2012) for the Sony CX190: http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camcorders/sony-handycam-hdr-cx190/4505-6500_7-35128679.html (They didn't like the image quality, for the money. And they thought it felt "flimsy".)

CNet review {January 2011) for the Canon HF20: http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camcorders/canon-vixia-hf-r20/4505-6500_7-34468433.html

hope this helps,

I live in Saudi Arabia.. Which phone should I buy .. Please help?
Q. I am 16 years old . I had a blackberry for the past 3 years and now it's broken so I need another. I don't mind the price but good deals help :p. so far I'm thinking iPhone 4s but I'm open for suggestions
Thank you and please help

A. Samsung Galaxy S2
Did you think it could hold onto the crown and see off the challenge of the iPhone 4S ? Well, despite Apple releasing its best smartphone to date, we still have to recommend Samsung's challenger for its mix of good looks and functionality.
What we love about the Samsung Galaxy S II is the sheer amount of stuff that's packed in under the chassis - but more important is the way Samsung has used all that tech to create a phone that just works near-flawlessly.
Check out our Samsung Galaxy S2 video review:
The dual-core 1.2GHz processor, the Super AMOLED plus screen and the excellent sonic performance of the media player all combine to make a real doozy of a mobile phone.
Recording in 1080p is a nice touch (given that it actually works most of the time) and the camera is more than enough to take great shots in a shortspace of time - although we suggest you check out the iPhone 4S, as we rate the camera on Apple's device that little bit higher if you're not bothered about tinkering with a number of settings.
In short, be it internet browsing, navigation, media, or social networking- the Samsung GalaxyS2 is our pick of the bunch for all those functions in one phone.
Quick verdict
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is a phone we're excited to whip out in a pub and show off to our friends - and millions of people already are. It's the ultimate media mobile, the next generation in web browsing thanks to slick Flash integration, a very good replacement for a pocket camcorder and, goshdarnit, it makes calls pretty well too.
The Samsung Galaxy S II has not only set a new bar for smartphones in 2011; it's smashed the bar, recreated it in its own image and even managed to see off the competition of an Apple smartphone that doesn't drop signal all over the place.

Can i have a link for a HD professional camcorder around £600?

Q. Can i have a link for a HD professional camcorder around £600. It must be a good camera for making films and it can't be a camera made in 2001 and below. Thx.

A. Nope. A "professional camcorder" will have a lens diameter of 70mm or larger, a 3CCD or 3COMS imaging chip array that is 1/3 inch or larger and XLR audio-in connectors. There is no camcorder with these features that meets you price. The closest is the Canon XHA1.

Help with choosing a camcorder with good sound quality?
Q. Ok, I've asked questions about camcorders, microphones, and webcams that have good sound quality. And I've found the perfect thing, a Panasonic HDC-SD100 HD Digital Camcorder. But guess what, it costs a little less than 1000 dollars. And thats too much. Is there any other camcorders that are similar to this one, but has a little smaller price tag? I'm okay with bad video quality, but I need the sound quality.

A. Here's a bit of camcorder insight: no matter how much you spend on a camcorder, the built-in mic sucks! Obviously some are better than others, but none would be sufficient for real professional stuff. Built-in mics have an omni-directional pickup pattern which means it picks up sound in every direction. It sounds nice, but it's not. You pick up annoying background noise, and the overall sound is unfocused and quite has quite a bit of echo. So my advice is to get the cheapest camcorder with a 3.5mm mini-stereo microphone input which will allow you to connect external mics...

Some cheap** ones: Canon ZR series (starting at $200-ish. But not all have the mic input, so make sure of that. I know the ZR40 has one, as well as the newer models the ZR900 and ZR930. If I'm correct, the older models of Canon Opturas have them as well (like the Optura 10). I believe the Panasonic PV GS500-ish (can't remember the exact number) has one too.
Your cheapest option is to get the ZR900 (or if you can find a used model of the ZR40 or Optura 10).

Now that you've save a lot o money, you have more to spend on a good external mic. If you want to go the cheap route, get a nice mini-stereo shotgun:
1) RODE VideoMic
2) Sennheiser MKE300
3) Azden SGM-X
4) Audio-Technica ATR-55

If you want the absolute best audio, get an XLR adapter (the good kind, not those crappy XLR female to mini-male cables) like those made by Beachtek for around $180, and get a pro XLR mic:
1) Sennheiser ME66
2) RODE NTG-2 (or NTG-1)

the Azden SGM-1X is pretty good too, and cheap :)

Hope that helps!!!

Is There a Way to Have External Audio go With a Video Camera with No Mic Input Jack on it?

Q. I need external microphone usage but there are really good and fairly inexpensive camcorders which don't have it. Any remedies?
Would a USB-audio adapter work?

A. I am not aware of an "really good camcorder" without a mic jack. Perhaps our definitions are different... In my book, if it is a "really good camcorder", then it will have a mic jack AND manual audio control. The Canon FS series all have mic jacks - as does the Canon ZR900, ZR930 and ZR960. None have manual audio control. The Canon HV30/HV40 and Sony HDR-HC9 have a mic jack and manual audio control.

If you like the video quality of a particular camcorder and it has no mic jack, then you can capture the audio using an audio "field recorder" like those from Edirol, M-Audio, Zoom and many others... just import the audio when you import the video for editing - sync the audio and mute the audio that came in with the camcorder.

Where do you get a decent external microphone for a video camera?
Q. I'm just going to be making a cheap, low budget film and am looking for a decent external microphone for my Cannon HG10. I'll spend between $50 to around $200 but I'd rather it be like $150. Anyone got any ideas?

A. It depends what you want the mic to do.

For a "shotgun" mic: NRG Research SA-568. This switchable condenser mic has an XLR connector but comes with two cables - XLR to 1/8" and XLR to XLR.

For a stereo mic: Audio Technica AT 825 - using XLR jacks. There is an AT-822 that is basically the same mic, but with 1/8" jack. Audio Technica Pro24-CM is pretty good, too. If you go with the AT-825, you will need a XLR adapter. Check the juicedLink or BeachTek lines.

For a wireless lav: Audio Technica Wireless Pro88W VHF system.

The mono mics (the shotgun and wireless lav) will record to only one channel on the camcorder - fix this in post production.

what kind of camera and sound equipment do I need to shoot a documentary?

Q. I am filming a documentary and I need to know what sort of camera and what kind of sound equipment I need to purchase. I also need to know if this equipment is easy to train people on, or if it would be smarter to try to hire people who already have experience and training with this sort of equipment. If so, where do I find these people? What is the most basic sort of camera I can use and what is the most advanced, and what difference would that make? I plan on making this a professional looking documentary that I can enter into film festivals. Thanks!

A. It depends on how picky you are, what sort of audio is being recorded and where the audio is being recorded.

For example, audio captured live during a drag race or other noisy environment will have different mic needs than if the audio is captured inside a room where there is little noise.

Another example has music recording - as opposed to just talking heads or recording the noise a cat makes when purring.

Does the equipment need to be portable? Is a 2-channel field recorder (like a Zoom H4n) enough or is a 16 (or more) track board required along with a Digidesign/ProTools set-up and computer interface?

Shotgun mic, lavalier, handheld dynamic mic... wired or wireless... stereo or mono mics... the list is endless.

We don't know anything about the project, your budget or where you are. The complexity of the project can dictate all these things. If you think this is complex, then see if the local community college has a media or audio-for-film class - and meet with the instructor.

As for cameras... well, if you have to ask, then you might want to be taking the classes...

Consumer cameras and camcorders have small lenses and small imaging chips. They cannot do well under low light conditions. They have few manual controls - and those that are available are usually accessed through a menu. As the cameras and camcorder increase in price the lenses and imaging chips get bigger and the commonly used manual controls move to the outside of the camcorder/camera. As well, at the low end, the video compression is very high - this results in low quality video. As the cameras/camcorder increase in price, the compression goes down and the video quality goes up.

If the lighting is ALWAYS good (bright, sunny daylight, outdoors), them pretty much any camcorder will do - assuming you are not very picky. In my opinion, the *least* I would use would be a Sony HDR-FX1000. Low compression HDV format. Most advanced - for your needs probably something from Red (Epic, One, Scarlet). HDV records only 1080i video. Red cameras can capture 4K video at very low compression. And any in-between (like any from the Sony HDCAM/XDCAM or Panasonic Varicam areas... or the Canon XF300 series... Some would even suggest a good dSLR that happens to capture good high definition video as "convenience feature".

But when all is said and done, someone with experience and skill using the least expensive camera available can produce awesome content - and someone with no experience and skill using the most expensive/best gear available will generally turn out not so awesome content.

Where are these experienced people? They are trying to make a living being independent audio engineers and cinematographers. There are near or recently finished from film school. They are at community colleges teaching - or are wedding videographers hoping a compelling script comes along. Maybe they have regular day-jobs and have been doing this sort of thing for a LONG time but it can't pay the bills... Or they work at corporate AV companies or hotel AV departments... they are lots of places...

What type of camcorder would I need for this?
Q. I'm thinking of taking a sabbatical after high school to go to the Gaza Strip or Syria or Yemen or Mali to make a documentary of one of the wars going on there. I'm going to get a GoPro HERO3 Black that I can put on a helmet mount in case I need to set my big camera down. For my actual camera I'm considering the Sony HVR Z1u because thats what they used to film Restrepo. Would this be a good camera? I'm planning on filming at chest level and buying a better shotgun Mic.
I basically need something thats rugged, easy to carry, and can automatically switch from high to low light.

A. Hi, young Scion racing fan:

Firstly, yes the Sony Z1U is a good camera (I've shot with one for years, and a documentary buddy of mine has traveled the Middle East and Asia with one for many projects). It's now a discontinued model (the Z5 and Z7, and the S270 are newer models), though you can find many good ones on the used market, or a new one that a Sony dealer has left over.

But other than "auto-iris" for varying levels of lighting conditions, you won't find any good camera that's fully automatic for an untrained amateur out in the field. There are 3-step Gain switches and built-in ND filters on pro-level/prosumer cameras like the Z1U and its "big brothers"; and you'll need to spend quite a bit of time practicing with any decent pro-level camera to know all the settings and menus for good footage.

And since you are familiar with "Restrepo", keep in mind that co-director/videographer Tim Hetherington was killed by Libyan shelling less than a year after the release of his award-winning film on the Afghan war. You might re-think your first big project subject matter if you wish to make it to age twenty. (The two guys who made "Restrepo" had 20-30 years more life-experience & journalism 'chops' than you.)

Save up for lots of rechargeable camera batteries (the good ones are not cheap), and possibly a fold-up solar charger, since you can't "just plug-in anywhere" in a war zone. And take some time during your "sabbatical" to learn a helpful foreign language like Arabic or Hebrew (Middle East) or French (West Africa), or you won't have the full respect of the locals.

[Reminded of "Friends" character Chandler Bing at the airport exclaiming "I'm going to Yemen!"]

hope this helps,

Need Filter Program or Software for 8mm Camcorder Video Footage?

Q. I have a Sony 8mm camcorder. I recorded some outdoor footage. I uploaded it to my computer however, the scenes are a little grainy and a bit pixilated. What "free" software or program can I use to sharpen and add some clarity to the footage. (10) points to the person that gives me good info that works. Thank You!

A. There's not a lot you can do about it.
Make sure your watching it at the captured resolution as making it a larger dimension will make it look worse.

The pixelation should only occur after encoding the original footage, try increasing the encoders bitrate to improve quality.

You could see if you need some deinterlacing to improve it - http://www.100fps.com/ explains a bit

Getting more "Detail" from an image is something they only do in movies.

I need to get a still photo from a dazzle capturing device I bought today. How do I do that?
Q. I have a dazzle to burn DVD's from a Sony 8mm HI8 camcorder. It's mostly surveillance videos. I also need a still photo for the report that goes to the client. The CD burning went fine, but I can't find anything about still photos. I need help ASAP!

A. I am assuming that your photos are in your camcorder.

1. To get those photos connect your camcorder to your computer directly via a USB or a Firewire cable you received with your camcorder.
2. Once connected, set the camcorder setting to camera or photo.
3. Go to My Computer.
4. Your camera should be listed in it as an Sony Memory Stick.
5. Double Click on it.
6. You should be able to see all the folders on your memory stick including your photos.
7. Copy the photos to where you want to from there.

How much video does this memory card last for?

Q. Hi,

I've just bought the Sony A77 and I'm wondering how long does this memory card last for as in how many hours can it record for?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Class-Secure-Digital-Memory/dp/B00793AQ8C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373984109&sr=8-1&keywords=sony+sdhc+32gb+class10
I THINK YOU HAVE MISUNDERSTOOD MY QUESTION

A. I presume you mean the Sony SLT-A77...

Read the manual:
http://www.docs.sony.com/release/SLT-A77_A77V.pdf
Page 229.

Please note on page 230 there is a video single sequence limitation of 29 minutes (auto shutoff) and the internal temperature will overheat (pages 38, 228, 229) during long video sequence capture. Cool down is a really long time.

And be careful of the autofocus and zoom motor noise being recorded... pages 38. Manual mode or external mic is required.

This does not mean a dSLR cannot capture good video - they can. But video capture is a secondary, convenience feature and you need to deal with workarounds not usually found in a camcorder. If you purchased the A77 specifically for video (and especially if long sequences are required) you have the wrong tool for the job.

You'll find lots more helpful information in the manual.

Good luck.

How do I get video's from my computer on to a CD...which can then play in the UK and Canada???
Q. I've got some video's from my camcorder (sony DCR DVD106E) which has small 8cm DVD-RWs, which I then put onto my PC...I now want to put thm onto a normal 12cm CD so that they play on DVD players in England and canada...has anyone got any idea on how to do this??

Please help!

A. you have a lot of issues to deal with. first not all DVD players can handle VCDs. VCDs use MPEG1 which is different from MPEG2 used on DVD movies. But lets say they can. Next Canada and UK have totally different video systems. Canada has 30 fps NTSC and UK uses 25 fps PAL. However since the source is miniDVD, i am assuming that the program length is under 20 minutes. That being the case, you should be able to fit 2 files on the VCD, one in NTSC and another in PAL. Since the miniDVD is mpeg2 compressed, any decent software should be able to change frame rate easily between systems since most of the frames are interpolated anyway. Next your computer needs software to generate the appropriate mpeg1 files and a burner that understands generation of VCD recordings.

How does it feel to be followed around the store by cameras or a store clerk while you shop?

Where can I find a video camera with the manual zoom feature?
Q. I'm looking for a not-so-expensive video camera that has the manual zoom feature to take to Europe this summer!

A. The Canon HF and HF S series have manual zoom - if that is the function you assign to the thumbwheel on the left side of the camcorder near the front lens area...

If you want a zoom ring, then there are the Canon GL2, Sony HVR-HD1000, Sony HVR-A1, Sony HDR-FX7, Panasonic AG-DVX100... and lots more that cost more than these...

I need a Mac compatible HD video camera and somewhat cheap editing software?

Q. I've been looking around (with not too much luck) to find a pretty nice HD camcorder and video editing software for the Mac. I'm trying to find the camera for under $400, and the software nothing too fancy but I'd like green-screen compatibility. Anyone have any tips? It would mean a lot!

A. If you're looking for cheap video editing software, you may try this one. it can help you convert DVD and edit video, my friends recommend it to me, it works pretty good.

What is the best camcorder and camera out there?

Q. I will be going to Disney World this coming spring break and I want to record a lot and take a lot of pics. Also, is there a camcorder that can record really well in the dark? I prefer for the camcorder and digital camera to be small(not to huge).

A. Jennifer, I would recommend getting a compact digital camera that takes good video w/ sound. I've found that taking lots of short clips turns out to be more watched than taping all 30 minutes of a parade or show. If you really want video of shows/fireworks/parades, you can purchase them on-line and they'll be done better than you can probably do. You don't want to view your entire through a view finder. Having a compact camera that you can carry in a pocket means you'll have your camera with you more often and you'll take more pictures.

That said, the one thing digital cameras are not good at is video in low light. If you really want that, the Sony Handicams are very small and can take video in no light; although, as has been mentioned it looks like night vision (because it is).

Two sources that I used when choosing a camera were http://dpreview.com and http://stevesdigicams.com. They both have extensive reviews and buyer's guides.

What is the best camcorder/ video camera for a beginner?
Q. I've always been into the whole making movies thing.
And I would like to start making short clips and stuff.
But i don't know where to start.
What would you recommend?

-I'm looking for an affordable video camera. And I'm imagining one of those $2000 ones but I guess that's too.. way out of my league at the moment. I can't really see myself making a video with a itty bitty camcorder.

A. I was looking for a "good" camcorder that was reasonably priced and easy to use. I read many, many reviews and compared several different makes of camcorders. I kept leaning towards the Canon FS100 camcorder. I was told that the video quality of the Canon FS100 was better than the competitors when it was being shown on a widescreen television. But the reviews really confused me because there were reviews that went from 5 stars down to one. The higher reviews said the camera had great video quality, while the 1 & 2 star reviews said the video quality was terrible. Video quality was probably the most important feature I wanted in a camera, so which was it, really good or really bad. The only way to find out was to try one myself. So I ordered one from Amazon.com, because their return policy is excellent. If I didn't like it for any reason, I would just return it. When I received the camcorder, I charged the battery and started using it immediately. I think it is very easy to use, and the "video" quality was excellent on my widescreen TV. I was thrilled. When shooting in extreme low light situations, the video is grainy, but acceptable for me. I really don't plan on shooting in the dark with the mini video light on the camera. Regular indoor video with existing lamp light, was still excellent quality. BUT, if you are wanting to use the camcorder for still pictures, don't. The still picture quality is pretty bad. Now, about the packaged software that comes with the camcorder. I didn't like it. The camcorder saves the video in .MOD format, which MAKES you use the Canon software. So for you beginner and intermediate users, my suggestion is to download "SDCOPY" from the internet to your computer. The "SDCOPY" will convert the .MOD files to .MPEG files. Then, you will be able to use different software programs. I am using Windows Vista on my computer, so I use the Windows Movie Maker program that comes on Vista to burn my video onto DVDs. So I didn't have to buy any additional software. I am not shooting video for "professional" reasons. I just want my memories recorded onto DVDs so I can watch them in years to come. So for those of you that may be looking for a really good camcorder at a great price (under $500 at Amazon), and one that is easy to use, then I recommend the Canon FS100. How can you go wrong at that price and receive great videos? I absolutely love mine.

What "affordable" camcorders are compatible & work best with iMovie '11 & standard Macbooks?

Q. I want to know what current camcorders that are affordable work well with iMovie 2011. A camcorder where you don't have to download any streaming or video convertor programs.

A. Good zoom works very well for a day approaches and bright places Soledad excellent, but for low light if you need some accessories to give greater illumination to the area of ''shooting. Very light which allows for smooth loading and the quality of video and pass video to the computer is simple and makes working with the format and work with iMovie iFrame makes it very simple.

What is a good USB camcorder for a macbook?
Q. I have a current generation macbook, not macbook pro. I have no firewire but i want to get high quality video onto my mac. I'm not talking a Flip video camera, I'm talking a real camcorder that I can fit a fisheye lens onto. I can't spend thousands of dollars, so being told about a professional video camera won't help me

A. You can buy a real camcorder under $500 in the market. To transfer high quality video onto your
Mac, there is no alternative to firewire.

You can buy a firewire PCMCIA adapter for your Macbook to use it with firewire camcorder. Detail instruction goes here http://www.firewirecamera.org/2011/01/firewire-pcmcia-adapter.html

Golf Swing Analysis Software?

Q. I am looking at getting software that I can use to analyze my golf swing, as well as my son's batting motion. What is the best software that is reasonably priced for personal use?

A. The best possible software that you can use is the

V1 software.
You can get it for free for the basic modem, but if you want more advanced, you can pay a little bit more money for the premium. If you do the premium, they even have the camcorder use for your swing.

I use v1. I've been using it for 3 years now.
It's great for analyzing my own golf swing or any sport or kind.
It is the program that the Golf Channel uses for the analysis for the golf swing.
They even have models for you to download.(If you are premium). They have swimming, golf, soccer, football, you name it!
as well as baseball.

Get V1 software at

www.v1golf.com

Hope it helped

what should i film in for smoother motion quality?
Q. like less lag.

720 HD 60p
-or-
720 HD 30p

and if you say 30p should I have SteadyShot ON or OFF
none of these answers are answering my question. just answer the question and choose one

A. Hi Mikey:

It looks like you may have upgraded camera gear since you asked about your CyberShot DSC-H9 a couple of years ago, since the H9 doesn't have any 720 HD settings (or HD settings at all!). But since you mention SteadyShot, and not the generic term O.I.S., you must still have a Sony model.

And since you didn't say exactly what kind of motion-footage (there's a difference between shooting a golf swing and shooting a car race -- the first, you might want each frame crisply frozen in time with no blur for analysis; the second, you might want the cars to actually show some motion-blur), I'll assume you are still shooting skateboard videos. Some of this is frame-rate, but mostly it's actually the shutter-speed (the DURATION for each frame, not how many in a second) that helps determine how the footage appears during playback.

And speaking of skateboard shooting, are you shooting POV while on the board? If so, SteadyShot might be useful. If you are shooting others on their boards, your camera should be on a tripod with SteadyShot turned off.

As far as frame-rate, it can be more a matter of taste, as you can see in this "720p30 vs. 720p60" discussion a few years ago on Videomaker.com: http://www.videomaker.com/community/forums/topic/720p30-vs-720p60

But if you are wanting to have smoother slo-mo action of skater stunts, go for 60fps. Just keep in mind the bigger file size (twice as many frames), and for some cameras the compression to handle twice the data (at 60-progressive) will result in more digital artifacts in the final footage. (For typical consumer cameras & camcorders there's got to be a trade-off somewhere.)

And speaking of bigger files and twice-the-frames, what you are calling "lag" might be referring to your computer's playback of the raw footage. Many consumer shooters' computers (especially laptops) are sadly under-powered to handle ANY kind of HD footage without "lagging" or stuttering. This has nothing to do with camera settings, other than decompressing twice the frames as well as the huge HD data might be choking your PC.

But if you have a CMOS sensor camera, and are mistaking "rolling shutter" (a/k/a "Jello effect") for "lag", neither setting will cure that problem: see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jello_effect

You'll have to make the final judgement, but my best advice: Do like the pro-review mags & websites do & shoot some test footage with the various settings. "Slate" each sequence with a large card or paper sheet with Marx-A-Lot, noting stuff like "720p @30 StdyShot OFF w/ 1/250 shutter". Then you can render each one and decide which one "looks best" to you. Hollywood cameramen have been shooting "camera tests" since the silent movie days.

If you care to discuss what you exactly mean by "less lag", feel free to post another Additional Details update, and we can take it from there. (Also post your camera model # and what computer model you are using.) And if this whole discussion is just "hypothetical" because you are camera-shopping and want to decide between models with different frame-rates, please say so. Clear "context" is important to any technical discussion.

hope this helps,

Can you help me pick out a quality camcorder?
Q. I've never owned a camcorder before..I've been researching and still having a hard time picking a high quality camcorder. The things that are important to me is battery life, excellent video and still picture quality (for indoor shooting too) and to be able to easily edit onto a dvd without compromising video quality. Any suggestions?

A. Hi, well I have a few suggestions, I recently researched this also, I decided on the Panasonic PV GS300, I have also heard the Panasonic PV GS500 is very good, however I wanted a more compact camcorder, therefore I went with the 300, by the way this is a minidv camcorder. I had talked with a guy from best buy and researched online and decided on this camcorder. For best research I suggest the below address... http://www.camcorderinfo.com/
And for the best deal on a camcorder I suggest the below website...
http://www.usaphotonation.com/default.asp

I got my pvgs 300 for $380, the msrprice is around $600!! Pretty good I think!! Hope this helps and good luck!

Should I buy the most computer I can afford or is the cheap one just as good for the average person?

Q. I have to be able to work in multiple programs simultaneously but that's my only requirement. I can keep from saving songs and photos. I don't play graphic intensive games. Occassionally I download and edit movies from my camcorder.

Will the cheap $699 work?

A. You could probably get away with the less expensive one. Try and find one that has some upgrade possibilities just in case you need to get more out of it later. Ask the sales rep if it has upgrade capabilities like PCI or PCI-E slots, total memory, expansion slots and bays.

Hope this helps

Can I attach an infrared light to a normal camcorder?
Q. I have a panasonic camcorder, just some cheap one but it gets the job done. I was wondering if I buy an infrared light attachment and stick it on my camera, will the camera be able to film night vision now?

A. Can the external infrared emitter be attached? Yes.

Will it allow your camcorder to seen under zero visible light conditions? Without knowing your Panasonic camcorder's model number, it is impossible to know for sure - but chances are about 99.999% that your Panasonic camcorder will not be able to see anything by darkness with a properly working infrared light source.

Best Camcorder and microphone for recording talks?

Q. I need something to record talk presentations. What are the best options for good quality camcorders and microphones? I have a 700$ budget, so I am looking at a 500$ or less camcorder and maybe 100$ for a microphone and 100$ for a tripod.

A. You can go for Sony DCR-SX43 Standard Definition Flash Mem Camcorder which costs only $199.99 from thriftynickel.biz

How to get good quality sound when shooting a film?
Q. When I always used to make short films I used the crappy camcorders Microphone, and it sounded so mono and just not filtered. What is the best, cheapest way to get Theatrical quality sound? Thanks.

A. Good question- people don't realize how much good sound counts, you can have crappy images and weird editing, but if the sound is messed up it will take the audience out of the story instantly.
Find a cheap shotgun mic ($40) that has an 1/8th plug for the little cameras, and make a cheap homemade boom-pole and windscreen. Have a friend be boom op.
Next step- post sound. 99% of all sound in professional films and videos is recorded in a studio, then edited in- even the dialogue. Use only the dialogue from your on set recordings- edit everything else out then either rerecord (foley) the ambient sounds- footsteps, rustling, birds, etc. in post or find free samples online. If the dialogue is messed up do ADR, or record the actors lines in the studio (a quiet closet) and sync them up. Mix and EQ.
Also don't forget to record room tone on set, its the ambient hum of every location- and it changes with every room or location. After you finish filming just record 30 sec. of absolute quiet- you can then insert that room tone to help smooth over your edits in post- that's how the pros do it.

How to get my webcam option on my camcorder to work?

Q. I have a Gigaware 5-Megapixel HD 1080p Camcorder with 3.0" Touchscreen which is supposed to have a webcam option. I installed the driver CD that came with it and every time I try to launch the webcam option it says it is not connected or is being used. Anyone know how to get it working?

A. You need to check in the camera settings. There should be an option of when connected to computer you want to use it as USB Storage device or Web cam.

Or something like use as webcam..maybe you have to set it up...

refer to the user guide?

how do i save a video to a file and shrink it?
Q. okay well i have a aiptek 1080p hd-dv camcorder and i'm trying to post my videos on youtube but they say in order to do that you need to save it to a file but when i do i open it and dont see my video i need HELP!!!!!!!!!please and also how do you shrink the video?

A. This depends on what program you are using to edit your raw video files to. The raw video is generally in .AVI format (or .MOV on a Mac). When you have completed editing, you choose what format and size you would like to save it to as a computer file. The higher the resolution the larger the file. Consider choosing a lower resolution so that your end file is less than 20-30 meg or so. The original raw video is measured in hundreds of megs and often even in Gig's of video, so a lot of compression must be used.

Good Luck

I heard that the Intel i7 processors were amazing. I think this will be really good for what I do. I make Gaming videos with my HD PVR. CONSOLE GAMES. The only PC game I play is Minecraft, so I won't be doing a lot of gaming, strictly video editing and rendering.

Will this computer be great for rendering at blazing speeds? It takes my current computer around 10 hours to render a 35 minute HD video. I want that to be rendered in at least in an hour.

I'm also going to be buying the Sony Vegas Pro Suite for it and the Adobe Master Collection later on. The Vegas Pro Suite has 2 vital pieces of software to help my production value look a lot better. That is Sony Vegas Pro 12 and HitFilm Ultimate 2. These both are GPU accelerated and here are their requirements:

----Sony Vegas Pro 12----

Microsoft® Windows Vista® 64-bit SP2, Windows 7 64-bit, or Windows® 8 64-bit operating system
2 GHz processor (multicore or multiprocessor CPU recommended for HD or stereoscopic 3D)
1.2 GB hard-disk space for program installation
750 MB hard-disk space for content installation
4 GB RAM (8 GB recommended)
OHCI-compatible IEEE-1394DV card (for DV and HDV capture and print-to-tape)
USB 2.0 connection (for importing from AVCHD, XDCAM EX, NXCAM, or DVD camcorders)
512 MB GPU memory
Windows-compatible sound card
DVD-ROM drive (for installation from a DVD only)
Supported CD-recordable drive (for CD burning only)
Supported DVD-R/-RW/+R/+RW (for DVD burning only)
Supported BD-R/-RE drive (for Blu-ray Disc™ burning only)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.51 (included on application disc)
Apple® QuickTime® 7.1.6 or later for reading and writing QuickTime files
Internet Connection (for Gracenote MusicID Service)
GPU-accelerated video processing and rendering require an OpenCL™-supported NVIDIA®, AMD/ATI™, or Intel® GPU with 512MB memory or more. Detailed specifications and driver requirements can be found at: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegaspro/gpuacceleration

----HitFilm Ultimate 2----

Recommended system requirements

Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad or AMD Phenom X4
RAM: 4GB
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX or AMD/ATI Radeon HD 4850 with at least 1024 MB video memory and support for OpenGL 2.0.
View more graphics cards which meet our recommended requirements ↓
Screen resolution: 1280 × 800 in 32-bit color mode
Sound card: Internal sound card
Hard disk space: 300MB free disk space for program installation
Internet connection: Required for online activation and HitFilm.com web services

Intel 64-bit Itanium (IA64) enterprise class processors are NOT supported.

Will my build be able to use these flawlessly and render very quickly?

Also, I am wanting to have a TRIPLE MONITOR SET UP. Is this computer capable of that? I heard you needed 2 graphic cards or something like that to have a three monitor set up. Is that true?

I don't want a Mac. I like Windows 7 the most and I am most familiar with PCs.

In conclusion, will this help me a lot or should I go in a different direction?

The PC was created here: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/cto.do#anchor-top

Thanks a lot!

A. Everything looks good but I would definitely get a bigger HD and a more powerful power supply. 300W probably won't be nearly enough power with that setup, and 500GB doesn't seem like all that much space nowadays, especially for storing videos.

Some simple questions I want simple answers too about the 3DS?
Q. 1. The 3DS supports an SD card. Can you:
Put mp3's on it and listen to them off the 3DS, and can you do this with the lid closed?
Put picture files on it and view them in the 3DS?
Put video files on it and view them in the 3DS? If so, what type of video files (Avi, wmv, etc)

If no to any of the above, will some or all of these features be a possible availability in a future update?

2. Can you view and watch youtube videos on the 3DS browser? I noticed it does not have flash supported, so I am guessing this is a big no, which is sad because you can on the opera browser on the wii.

Those are the only questions I currently have about it, as I am planning on buying one myself shortly after the holidays.

I'm getting a 3DS, and that's that. Any comments about how I should get the Vita instead will be disregarded, as I don't have the patience to save up an extra $80 (I get money very slowly).
Grammar/Spelling fail in the title. I meant "to" not "too"
I could probably get one of those R4's that are compatible with the 3DS to do video watching then after I'm sure they don't brick your console.

And if yahoo answers removes this post because I commented on an R4, R4's are not initially illegal in the U.S., and I can talk about them if I want to.

A. Yes to all of Question 1

No to Question 2 until a future Wi-Fi Update in 2012 or 2013.

And with the 3DS you can play music (even with the system close).

You can LOWER the VOLUME of 3D so it does NOT give you headaches for the first time in your life (if you're the kind of person to ever get headaches from 3D, otherwise just turn the 3D all the way up).

And you can also turn the 3D OFF Completely.

And 3D is good for working out your eye muscles & brain to keep them in shape as shown in this link:

http://www.aoa.org/x17309.xml

And the Nintendo 3DS has downloadable 3D Music videos from today's American music artist which I have already downloaded the 3 free 3D Music Videos to watch anywhere and the 3DS has 3D "Blue Man Group" video and College Humor (in 3D) with the FREE "Nintendo Video" App that you can download (but its 4 3D Videos at a time and they replace them once in a while) and you can download cheap downloadable 3D Apps & 3D games costing from 99 cents to $5.99 and the Nintendo 3DS also has FREE downloadable 3D Apps & 3D Games, which I have already downloaded 3 Free 3D Apps and I have downloaded 2 Free 3D Games and the 3DS has a 3D Camera and I have already used the 3DS 3D Camera to take 3D photos and I have uploaded some of my 3D footage online using the Nintendo 3DS's Web Browser to upload my 3D footage online and I have used my 3DS Web Browser to also download other peoples 3D footage from the Internet on my 3DS Web Browser and I have view all sorts of 3D content on 3D Websites online on my 3DS's Web Browser and I have use my 3DS 3D Camera to play 3D Augmented Reality games as well and it's all in 3D without the Glasses using the 3DS 3D Camera and It has beautiful 3D HD graphics that equal to that of a 3D HD version of Wii Graphics and I have Streamed 3D Videos Online on my 3DS in the eShop and I have also Watch 3D Trailers for upcoming 3D movies coming to Theaters in 3D and I have done all of this in 3D Without the Glasses.

And the 3DS with a Wi-Fi Update can RECORD 3D Videos in 60 fps (unlike other camcorders, that only Record in 2D Only and in up to 30 fps only).

And the 3DS pixel density is MUCH sharper than an average HD TV.

And they're making Angry Birds 3D as a downloadable game.

And the 3DS is getting DLC (Downloadable Content) like Xbox Live for a bunch of 3DS games to add content to the game later on for Free.

And 1 of the Free 3D Apps I have downloaded was Netflix.

And Netflix is getting 3D Movies in the next few months.

And 100% of the people who have said that they get headaches from 3D, have said that after up to 1 week of using the 3DS they NO LONGER get headaches anymore and that they now play with the 3D all the way up 100% all the time, non-stop.

But I have never had any problem with the 3D at all, but each person has a different experience with the 3D ON during the first week.

And you can now pay to download 3D Videos on the 3DS.

And the 3DS is getting Hulu Plus before the end of this year (2011) as a Free downloadable App and Hulu already has 3D Content.

and you can check this Link below for more 3DS Games:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_3DS_games

P.S. You will want to check these sites out for the Web Browser's 3D ability:

http://www.3ds-screenshot.com/

http://gamecrunch.co/3dscreens/

http://3dporch.com/

http://3dspaint.com/

http://www.klutz.com/static/nintendo/n3ds_mm9.html

http://www.instructables.com/3ds/

And the 3DS can play MP3, M4A & AAC.

And you will want to create a new folder in the SD card for every 100 songs, if you want to play more than 100 songs.

And you need the videos to be of the right format and then you put them in DCIM folder (and if there is any folders in there, than put it in the one with less than 100 .mpo in it).

how do i get better video quality using a dazzle dvd recorder?

Q. When i record something with my film camcorder, i transfer it to my computer by playing it back and recording it onto my computer using the dazzle dvd recorder. When i do this however, the video quality drops significantly, but the audio is fine. how do i get better video quality with my dazzle, even though my camcorder doesnt have an s-video output?

A. You did not tell us which camcorder.

If it is an analog camcorder, you are reducing the quality when you transfer to the VOB DVD standard definition format. Each time you compress, you reduce quality. When you compress the video, dideo data is discarded. When you "decompress" the video, the decompression is providing only "best guess" when rebuilding the video.

If you want "best video quality", then don't re-use the tapes - transfer directly from the camcorder to the computer and skip the offload to the DVD recorder.

I don't think you are using a "film" camcorder. Film cameras would require you to send the exposed film out for developing and return to you with the developed film. Analog and digital video tape are more likely what you are using.

If you are using analog tape (VHS, VHS-C, Hi8), then get an analog/digital converter (USB for Pinnacle Dazzle; firewire for Canopus ADVC55 or ADVC110).

If you are using digital tape (Digital8 or miniDV), then install a firewire port on your computer and transfer the digital video directly. Firewire, IEEE1394 and i.LINK are all the same thing. If your computer has no firewire port and no expansion slot to add one, then your only option is the USB-connectinganalog/digital converter described above. USB-to-Firewire adapter/hub/converter/cable things do not work.

In either case, bypassing the DVD step you currently do and saving that for the LAST step of the process will greatly improve your video quality.

If you want to upload videos to the computer easily, what is the best camcorder to have?
Q. Is it better to get a DV camcorder, even though it requires a firewire port? Is it better to get a hard drive or sd card camcorder? I don't want a flash memory camcorder, but most importantly I want a camcorder with good video quality on the camera and the computer once it is transferred.

A. The best video quality continues to come from video captured in DV or HDV format. For consumer camcorders, that means miniDV tape. There are external hard drives for camcorders typically with a firewire port - from companies like Focus Enhancements (FireStore) - but even those external hard drives save to DV or HDV format.

Internal hard drive or flash memory based camcorders typically store the captured video in a very compressed MPEG2 (standard definition) or AVCHD (high definition) format.

DVD camcorders compress even more into their VOB or VRO format files and their video is not menat to be edited - though people try by ripping the video, the quality is not very good.

Video compression = discarded data = reduced video quality.

Firewire400 ports are typically cheap to add
http://shop2.frys.com/search?search_type=regular&sqxts=1&query_string=firewire+card&cat=&submit.x=0&submit.y=0
if your computer has an available PCI port.

If you use an Apple Macintosh, they have had firewire ports for almost ten years... the only exception is the new Mac Air.

From my experience:

MiniDV tape: Lock the tape, then rewind to where you want to start the import, click import, go do something else until the import is done. The clips are a single huge file in the editor, but making the individual clips is as easy as dragging them to the desktop outside the editor window. Store the tape in a cool dry place, nice long shelf life. Camera dies, get another camera. Do not reuse tapes.

Hard drive or flash memory: Since all the files are individual (and there will be more than you expect because the largest file is 20 minutes - there is no frame drop, but there is an extra step to put the clips back together when editing), and copying to your computer is fast - some computer operating systems may need an additional file conversion step. Before you start editing, make another copy of the files for archiving... another hard drive or burning discs (data DVDs, not video DVD format). Camera dies - let's hope all the files were transferred, otherwise, the internal HDD is not removable, so get to know folks like http://drivesavers.com/ and open your wallet REALLY wide...

how much battery life should I expect out of most standard p and s cameras?

Q. Looking for a used video/still camera. I am wondering how much battery life to expect in video mode before the battery runs out. I know it varies greatly, but I need to know what I should look for?

A. It depends on the camera - I think you already know this. Look for the highest "milli amp hours" (mAH) rating on the battery. More amp hours = more power stored in the battery. They will all be around the same. If it is that much of a concern, just get an optional rechargeable battery from the manufacturer and have it charged and ready to go. When the one in the camera is drained, replace it (and, if possible, start recharging it).

Point and shoot cameras are designed to capture still images - and can do that well. Video (and audio) is is "convenience feature". Don't expect much and you'll have great video. Expect the camera to behave like a camcorder and plan to be disappointed.

If the battery that comes with the previously owned camera you get came with the camera when it was new, it will not have as long of a image capture life as a new battery. Li-Ion batteries have a lot less of the "memory effect" (NiCads can have a huge memory effect), but over time, they all lose their ability to fully recharge like when they were new.

How do I import video files from my camcorder to my mac without imovie?

Q. I don't want to edit the files, I just want the video files. But when i go into my camcorder and find the files, its unreadable on my pc. (I want to move them to my pc so i can edit them on my pc w/ sony vegas.) I want to burn the video files onto a disk and then put them on my pc.

A. Editing Sony AVCHD Video on Wins or Mac may make you feel painful, despairing, AVCHD can not upload to your expensive editor, so how to deal with it? Here you will find the solution.

Where online can I find a good dvd camcorder?
Q. I am looking for a dvd camcorder online because they are too expensive in stores. I would like a Sony, Panasonic, or Canon one but Ill take whatever works nicely. I cant seem to find one on ebay or Amazon thats in my price range or working. The ones on ebay get up to $300.
Do know of any other site where I can buy nice working camcorders cheap?

A. Nowhere.

There is no such thing as a "good" consumer grade DVD camcorder.

Please adjust your requirements - miniDV tape has best available video quality but your computer requires a firewire port. Flash memory and hard disc drive use USB to transfer the files but you usually need to convert them to a file format your computer can deal with if you want to do any editing.

Consumer DVD based camcorder barely make useful doorstops.

How can I get funding for digital video equipment?
Q. I am a high school student and I recently started a Film Club at my high school, but we do not have any dv camcorders or tripods. We are basically starting off from scratch. It is difficult to raise money to purchase video equipment for our club. Can anyone help us? Are there any special organization or companies that can help us obtain dv camcorders and tripods?

A. try writing a letter to your local electronic stores for help. a nicely worded request with your goals to Best Buy might just get you started. they often have equipment that has been returned and can no longer be sold as new, or old models that need to make room for the latest. Your local newspaper may also be willing to help if you write a press release about your new club and your goals.

What is the difference between these two camcorders?

Q. I've been searching for a camcorder and I narrowed it down to two different camcorders, I don't really see a difference in them other than the digital zoom and price but is one a lot better than the other or are they basically the same? I'm not very good at picking out a camcorder.

JVC GZ-E200 v.s JVC GZ-EX210

A. Digital zoom is useless and should be disabled when you get the camcorder. Use only Optical zoom.

Product comparison:
http://camcorder.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL029070&pathId=171&page=14
The two cameras you listed are the two middle cameras in the comparison table.

The EX210 has wifi, high speed video capture, pet detection and certain art effects that the E200 does not have.

Whether these are important enough to you to justify the difference in $ is up to you. The things that make the real differences that impact video quality will be lens filter size, imaging chip size and video compression. And between these two camcorders, those specs are the same. BTW, neither has a mic jack... so just a heads up on that.

What is the best budget camcorder to live stream high school athletic events?
Q. I need a high quality camcorder no more than $300. We will be using it to stream high school sports live, which brings me to my supplement question. Supposedly, I know someone who knows how to set up this live streaming. But how would this be set up exactly? You would obviously need an internet connection (wifi or ethernet), but I'm not sure we have access to this.... Is it possible to use satellite streaming? Or is that impossible without internet and would it be very expensive? Thanks!

A. If "know someone who knows how to set up this live streaming" then start with them on which camcorders to investigate.

"Satellite streaming" means there is a satellite uplink (including a big dish and transmitters and such) and someone's paid for transponder space and time. It also presumes a "satellite downlinks" and access to processing the feed. I won't assume anything, but I don't *think* this will be available to you.

At $300 you are basically at the entry level for consumer grade camcorders. While these are typically well made electronics, I cannot characterize them as being "high quality" relative to video broadcast standards. Since there are no consumer camcorders that can digitally stream the video over USB until you hit the $800 range (like a Canon HV40, or any others using miniDV tape media storage will work because they use firewire), the best you can do is stream analog video.

So, given your budget - which is likely not enough - we have:

Any camcorder with AV-out. This is pretty much any camcorder - but you need to be sure the AV-out can be used to monitor what the camera can see - again, pretty much any camcorder. This plugs into an "Analog/Digital converter". The A/D converter plugs into the computer. Then the "someone who knows how to set up this live streaming" can finish up... including the connection to the Local Area Network that connects to the internet...

Use a tripod or other steadying device. Consider using a camera that uses a wired remote. The control is mounted to the tripod handle and controls zoom and other things. Use the AC adapter and be sure the camcorder's "auto sleep" is disabled. You are using a camcorder in a manner for which it was not designed.

Some Sony and Canon camcorders have a combo AV/remote port. You can do one or the other - not both at the same time. Some camcorders use a LANC. This will work great. As far as I know, the least expensive with a separate LANC is the Canon HV40... then comes the Sony HDR-FX7 (I think). These are both more than you want to spend.

What is the difference between 720p and VGA?

Q. I have a Kodak Mini HD Camera/Camcorder. I can switch my camcorder between 720p resolution and VGA. My question is, which one is better? Also what is the difference between the two? I have never really heard of VGA until I got this camera.
I have never really researched any of this until today and just could not find something that explained it well enough for me. Thanks for any answers

A. VGA refers to the resolution 640x480, also know as 480p in video camcorder terms.
720p is of course better quality with a resolution of 1280x720, about 3 times the pixels of 480p and therefore takes about 3 times as much memory. Also, the shape of the final video frame will be slightly different, with 720p being a longer and thinner frame (higher width ratio to height).
Altogether, 720p is a higher quality, or generally 'better', and classed as HD, but will use up a lot more memory than VGA.

What is the best and most user-friendly software for capturing video onto my computer?

Q. I have a camcorder and a digital video camera and would like to capture, edit and burn onto a DVD disk on my desktop computer.
Should I use Windows Movie Maker, Nero, Roxio or something else?

A. Obviously the most user friendly is iMovie and iDVD for the Mac.

For the PC, Windows Movie Maker and Windows DVD Maker. Mostly, because it is free with compatible operating systems.

If you looking to spend some money on software and you have the system requirement to run it then Adobe Premier Elements.

What's the best microphone adapter for a camcorder?

Q. I own the JVC Everio MS120 Dual Flash Camcorder and not sure if a microphone adapter will work with it. What camcorders have external microphone or work with a microphone adapters?

A. If your camcorder does not have a 3.5 MM MIC jack, then you would need a Digital Audio Recorder, get one you can hook microphones, get a microphone or two, make sure you get the proper hook ups to use with your DAR. Then when you shoot, start the DAR, start recording with your camcorder, stand in front of the camcorder, make sure the audio can be heard and CLAP as loud as you can. Now record your show, do not turn anything off, no pauses with the camcorder until your done shooting. Then take the footage back to your computer, to line up audio and video, that clap is your line up point. Delete or mute the video's audio and use your external recorded audio track.

Whats a good video camcorder to get that uses an external microphone?
Q. I currently use a JVC Everio MS120 Dual Flash Camcorder. But I would like to upgrade to a different camcorder and want to use an external microphone just like a real news caster does. So I would like a camcorder that can handle an external wireless microphone. Anyone know of any good models both camcorder and external wireless microphones?

A. canon hf-m31

What is the best camcorder for filming football?

Q. What is the best camcorder within 1000 dollars to film football with?

A. im not recommending a specific model but just general tips on what to get. if you want to edit and have slightly better picture quality, get a miniDV cam. if you just wanna record and watch, then go for miniDVD cams. if i were you, id get a miniDV cam for your purposes, cos you have more flexiblity with what you can do, and the extra time needed to burn to DVD is minimal.

when buying, a large optical zoom is great, but lesser optical zooms will work. ignore digital zoom. make sure the camera has a manual shutter control and white balance. manual focus and aperture are great, but not necessarily required, but when possible, look for all four.
you can get a 3ccd cam for under 1000 and they enhance your picture quality. also, look for optical stabilization. it will help, but is not essential. top loading cams are a plus, as you can load a tape in without taking it off the tripod.

when recording, bring a tripod if possible. the tripod can be used when you are moving to help stabilize shots also, (lengthen the legs and fold them together so its like a monopod, then hold it at the center and walk). get shots from different angles (when possible), it will make the video more interesting than just staring at one angle the whole time.

you can go to www.camcorderinfo.com to search for cameras. panasonic's pv-gs series has a lot of the features i mentioned here so you can take a look at them. hope this helps!

What is the best video camera/camcorder under $1000?

What is a good Pro HD Camcorder I could buy for under $5000? Or under $4000?

Q. I want to look into an HD camcorder (not the hand-held ones... the pro camcorders)... what is a good brand/model to buy?

Thanks!

Keaton
What else do I need to buy besides the camera? I'm taking some classes on the production of film so I'm sure I'll learn how to work all of the elements of filmmaking there, but in the mean time, what should I buy? (somebody mentioned mics, lenses, etc.)

A. Same suspects... depends on your requirements...

Canon XHA1, Sony HVR-Z1U, HVR-Z5U, HVR-Z7U, Panasonic AG-HVX200, JVC GY series.

Mics? Lenses? Editing platform? Tripod or other steadying devices (camera crane), external monitor? It is easy to spend more on accessories than the camcorder.

bhphotovideo and Adorama are good online sources.

cheapest professional video camera?
Q. I need a professional video camera for under $300. It's ok if it's used, I just need one that's cheap, yet almost t.v show quality. Any brands, names, links to sellers?
And also, is a GoPro considered a professional camera?

Thanks!

A. Gopro isn't really professional...it's TECHNICALLY HD...but the framerate is 30 and the BIOS blurs it a bunch.

Look for a camcorder that has 1080p resolution, 60 frames per second and good color.
A good nightshot would help out aswell. You will NOT get TV show quality for ~300. For that you will either need a real, studio cam(4000+ used) or a DSLR camera rated for video(500-1000)
