What is the difference between 720p and VGA?

Q. I have a Kodak Mini HD Camera/Camcorder. I can switch my camcorder between 720p resolution and VGA. My question is, which one is better? Also what is the difference between the two? I have never really heard of VGA until I got this camera.
I have never really researched any of this until today and just could not find something that explained it well enough for me. Thanks for any answers

A. VGA refers to the resolution 640x480, also know as 480p in video camcorder terms.
720p is of course better quality with a resolution of 1280x720, about 3 times the pixels of 480p and therefore takes about 3 times as much memory. Also, the shape of the final video frame will be slightly different, with 720p being a longer and thinner frame (higher width ratio to height).
Altogether, 720p is a higher quality, or generally 'better', and classed as HD, but will use up a lot more memory than VGA.

What is the best quality camcorder for youtube?
Q. I am trying to buy a good quality camcorder for youtube with 720p. I know that the flip is an ok camera but I heard it is hard to control and does not have good image stabilization. What do you use and can you show me an example?

A. I would suggest Sanyo VPC-CG10 HD Flash Memory Camcorder
- Capture HD digital video (720p, 30fps) and up to 10-megapixel still photos
- 5x optical zoom; 3-inch widescreen LCD
- Face Chaser technology (can detect up to 12 faces for photos and videos)
- Built-in still photo flash; High-Speed Sequential Shooting (7fps)
- Capture video and stills to SD/SDHC memory cards

What camcorder to use on a low budget fetish porn?
Q. I want to shoot some low budget fetish porn for clips4sale with my gf.
IS there any good HD camcorders in 300-500$ range that can be good to start off with until we get more money to buy a better one? Also if i get a full HD camcorder, am I able to change the setting to high quality or 780p so I can upload the video at a lower disk space usage if necessary?

A. The subject really does not matter.

This same recommendation goes for capturing decent video - whatever it is... Under good lighting conditions, any camcorder can capture decent video. In your price range, the Canon HF R entry level or the HF M mid-range consumer camcorders fit. Consider investing in a decent lighting kit.

Generally speaking, consumer grade camcorders will have a "video quality" setting. This will determine the amount of compression applied to the video when captured. The marketing term, "Full HD" generally refers to 1080p video. 99.999$ of humans can't tell the difference between 1080p, 1080i and 720p when the video is captured, edited and rendered properly.

780p is non-standard, so you probably won't find that setting anywhere. Some cameras allow that selection; many do not and instead always capture 1080i/p and let the user pick from "best quality (large file size, very clear on a large monitor, low compression) down to "Low Quality" (small file size, not so clear on a large monitor, high compression) and a few steps in between.

It is always recommended to capture at highest quality - you can always compress and reduce quality and file size... but once the data is compressed, you can't get back all that lost video data, so you can't upgrade back to high quality...

If you think you have decided on a camcorder, download and read the manual before you buy to be sure it has what you want - including the different file size/video quality settings.

Using a HD 720p camcorder, What size SD card should I buy?

Q. Using a HD 720p camcorder, What size SD card should I buy?

I am thinking of buying a Sanyo Xacti VPC-TH1 High Definition camcorder and I dont know what size SD card to buy...

I want to record about 2 hours in 720p so which size should I get?
Is there any rough kind of guide to follow?

A. the camera specs appear to indicated that it is designed for 16 GB memory cards. the battery is good for 200 minutes, and 16 GB is 230 minutes of HD video. However if you plan on using the still photo capability of the camera, that will reduce the minutes of available video. An 8 GB card will be just short of 2 hours of HD video.

Will it be better to invest in a camcorder than a camera?
Q. I'm wondering if I should buy the Flip MinoHD Camcorder, 2nd Generation, or buy a Nikon D3000. I'm new with photography and filming, and its basically just as a hobby that I will be doing this, to make some memories. A part of me is telling me the camera will be better, but I'm kind of confused.

A. It totally depends on what you'd be doing more (photography/filming). If you are able to spend a little more and go for the nikon D5000, you can get a great entry level DSLR camera which is able to take 720p HD Movies, all in one.
