How do I convert my video from my Camcorder (.mod) into a common format?

Q. I was trying to upload a video onto facebook from my camcorder, but it didn't support my video format
I was able to convert it, but now its without audio. I still need help please

A. You may try this video tool E.M. Total Video Converter, I always use it to convert video and edit video,
it supports all video and audio formats including AVI, WMV, MP4, MPEG, FLV, MOV, MKV, VOB, MP3, 3GP, etc. You can also use it to trim, crop, join videos, even add a logo to a video, if you are interested in it,you can down it from here

How do I write videos from the camcorder on a disc?
Q. I have a high definition camcorder which writes videos in mst format. How should I write them on a dvd disc? Do you know what AVCHD stands for?

A. AVCHD ("Advanced Video Coding High Definition")
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD
creates MTS files.

If you copy the MTS files to a blank DVD using your computer or a stand-alone DVD writer (like Canon's DW100 or Sony's VRD-MC6 or VBD-MA1 recorders), the discs can be played using a BluRay player but not regular DVD player. If the files are transcoded to VOB files by the DVD recorder or a DVD authoring application like MyDVD or iDVD for regular DVD player playback (the BluRay player can play them, too), the video will be only standard definition.

How can you finalise a dvd when camcorder wont read disc?

Q. Hi there, please help.....
I bought 3 panasonic dvd-r discs to record my wedding on. Got my mate to record it cos i was busy getting married, one of the discs finalised but the other 2 did not. my camcorder says it cant read the discs but you can see that there is data on there.

As a result 2 discs dont work, you can imagine how sick i am.

Would be happy of any suggestions.

A. What are friends for?? Anyway have you tried to play them on a PC?? Sometimes it will play on a PC without finalizing. I would also suggest visiting your camcorders manufacturers support site and peruse the FAQ's section. You never know. I hope you have volunteered to be the cameraman for his wedding!

How do I connect a wireless lava mic to a regular camcorder for good sound quality of my video recording?
Q. I am interested in getting into journalism reporting for my website. I only have a regular camcorder and really would like to use a wireless microphone just like the reality shows. What other equipment such as adapter do I need? Most importantly how do you set one of these things up? I am soooo new to these high tech equipment.

A. so... it is a "Lavaliere" mic... also known as a "Lav" (not "lava"). Using an external mic with a camcorder means your camcorder needs an audio-in jack. This can be a 1/8" (or 3.5 mm) jack or perhaps a manufacturer's proprietary hot shoe will allow for special mic connections. Since you did not tell us what manufacturer/model camcorder you have, there are too many variables to know if your camcorder can use anything other than the built-in mics.

A wireless lav mic connects with a thin wire to the body pack worn by the person being mic'd. The body pack connects wirelessly to a base station. The base station connects to the camcorder.

On the TV reality shows, they typically do not record directly into a camcorder - they record into a field audio recorder and transfer the audio to the video later.

No matter... There are some cases where the audi is recorded to the camcorder. There are two main ways the wireless base station connects to the camcorder and it depends on the type of equipment you get.

1) The base station uses 1/8" (3.5 mm) connector to plug directly into the camcorder.
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-EW122PG2-Mountable-Lavalier-Microphone/dp/B0007OK78O/ref=pd_bbs_sr_7?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1215880280&sr=8-7

http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/cat-audio/cat-wirelessmics/

http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-PRO88W-R35-AUDIO-TECHNICA-Microphone/dp/B00006I523/ref=pd_cp_e_0?pf_rd_p=413863501&pf_rd_s=center-41&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0018MG3DC&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1GTCN8RSW0GVKN7J7529

The difference in price reflects the difference in quality, frequency used, antenna diversity and audio characteristics.

The other method uses XLR connection - and the base stations are generally not battery powered, so much less portable

http://www.zzounds.com/item--SHUPGX1493. To connect this to your camcorder, you either need the camcorder to have XLR mic-in jacks (pro-grade) or if the camcorder has 1/8" (3.5mm) audio in, you can use an XLR adapter (like those from BeachTek or juicedLink).

Best are full diversity, UHF units. Next best are full diversity, VHF units. Do not use FM, 800-2400-5400 MHz units - yes, they will be cheap, but will have a tendency to pick up interference because those are shared bands.

How to record audio with a crap camera?

Q. Hi. I got a Kodak Playsport Zx5 a little while ago and i really enjoy the video quality and features so i was loving it until i realized how much the audio quality sucks. I am trying to make videos but the audio uscks, i cant even hear myself from a foot away. Is there any way to plug in an external microphone? I want to return the piece of crap but its too late

A. Not to huge a problem. If your camcorder has a MIC jack, get an Apex 750, it costs $29.99 online. I have one and it does great audio. If it does not have a MIC jack, get that Microphone and a Digital Audio Recorder (DAR). Then on the timeline of your favorite video NLE editing program, sync your video and audio together. To make it easier to sync, when shooting, before you start, stand in front of your recording camcorder, microphone in hand or nearby, and CLAP, loudly. Now so long as the DAR never stops and the camcorder never stops, your in sync. If either stops, the sync is off.. Now the spike in the audio line will be easy to sync up with the clap. Cut that part off out of the video and carry on editing your video.

Now a DAR can be anything that record audio. It could be something similar to a H4N. It could be a Laptop, running Audacity, a free audio editing and recording program. It could be a newer cell phone.

Have Fun.

does the speed of an HDSC card make much difference?
Q. I'm buying my first video recorder (a Kodak Playsport), and am planning on buying a class 10 32gb HDSC card for it, but I'm confused about the speed thing. I don't know if I should buy a more expense faster card. Does it really make much of a difference?
Do you think a 133x/20mbs would be good for HD video?

A. the data rate is controlled by the camera, not the card. a Class 6 card should be fine for your Kodak. If the card class is too low, data will get scrambled and files corrupted, so it does make a difference. a class 10 card is pretty fast and usable on even the fanciest camcorders.

that being said, there are a lot of "fake" cards on the market that are marked as class 10 but in reality are a class 2 or 4. These are made in China and while not legal for export, are widely sold on eBay and other asian based internet businesses. So getting a card from a reliable source is very important.

What kind of camera and speed was used to film this rap video?

Q. I'm trying to find the exact specifications on replicating a video of this quality in 2012. What speed, lens, or camera would allow me to do this?

here is the youtube link to the video:

Capone n Noreaga, Mobb Deep, Tragedy - L.A L.A
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhEJ2Oe0vXc

A. Hi Joelvan, and welcome to Yahoo!Answers:

This 1996 music video could have been made either with film cameras or video cameras. Several lenses were used (you can tell when the "fisheye" or wide-angle lens shots come in). Depending on the budget for the production crew, film would have probably been the most cost-effective medium for all the different locations used, considering what the cost of good camcorders was back then and the difficulty in finding changeable lens kits (although screw-on front fisheye adapters might have been used with a stock video camera lens).

The high-contrast black & white effect could have been done with film stock or with a B&W video effect. (Same thing can be done today with either a video camera setting or in the editing process.) The "gamma" of film can be altered or a grainy high-contrast look in video achieved to yield what you see in the final music video.

For a modern version of this production, shot in 4:3 screen ratio (not widescreen HD), you'd want a good miniDV, Betacam, or DVCAM tape-format camcorder with changeable lenses (or decent threadable front filter-mount fisheyes for those scenes). A standard 10x or 12x zoom lens would handle the other shots. I'd shoot either regular 30fps video on an older camcorder, or 24p or 30p on a newer camera that has changeable frame-rate settings. I'd also shoot in full-color, waiting until post production (editing) to subtract the color and alter the contrast.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

How to make a really good youtube video?
Q.

A. Step 1) Use a decent camera to take your own footage (I use a Panasonic HD Camcorder)

Step 2) Get a decent video editing software, and learn how to use it properly - I use "Corel VideoStudio Pro X5". http://www.corel.com/corel/product/index.jsp?pid=prod4650075&cid=catalog20038&segid=6100016&storeKey=us&languageCode=en

Then you can transform a basic clip like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gil6hfWDbPA'

To something like this:
http://viewmyvideoclips.com/video/963/Deltic-55022-Royal-Scots-Grey-D9000-452pm-2nd-July-2012
(One of my first attempts with the software, so still a little cackhanded)

what is the difference between full spectrum and IR night shot?

Q. Ok so i have seen camcorders that are HD with Full Spectrum and i have seen some that are HD IR night shot. What is the difference. Which one is better for ghost hunting. And which camcorder is the best for a price of 350 and less.

A. IR is not visible light, thus it has no color. IR is monochromatic image aka black/white although some cameras give it an artificial color tint. because it has an eerie characteristic that is not natural, it is "perfect" for ghost hunting, tracking down what is both invisible and non-existant.

Full spectrum is just that, it is a normal color picture. If you have the IR filters removed, then the normal daylight viewing will have false colors. that is why normal cameras have an IR blocking filter.

i don't know how you judge a cheap camera. make a selection of features you need, and go with that.

Do different color filters for night vision have different applications?
Q. I was just wondering this because i bought a new HD full spectrum camcorder (and if your asking why? yes.. its for ghost hunting... lol), that has 4 different built in color modes, which are green, Black and white, Sepia, and color (aka no filter, aka full spectrum) for the built in IR night vision feature. but i don't know which ones to use for what? i know i've read that green is the easiest color to distinguish to the human eye, and red is the best for preserving your eyes natural night vision, but what about the others? what use could they have?

A. Use whichever looks coolest.

What's the best camcorder for independent horror movie?

Q. I'm interested in film making, and I want to create a horror movie and send it out to film festivals. I already created a script and have the actors, however the camcorder I have isn't entry level. I'm only 16, so money is an issue. I have about $800 for a new camcorder that would be good in low light situations and film in HD. What would be a good camcorder for my budget?

A. Before you decide on which camcorder - or we make suggestions - we need to know if that $800 budget includes mics, lighting, cables, power, tripods or other steadying devices, computer upgrade for video editing, editing application and a few other things.

If the $800 is for the camcorder only because the other items are already budgeted elsewhere, then get the largest lens diameter and imaging chip you can afford. Most likely in the Canon HF M series.

If the $800 is for the camcorder plus everything else, then you really need to save more.

The *best* camcorders with good low light behavior are those with LARGE lens diameter (70mm or larger) PLUS large imaging chip (3CCD or 3CMOS). The closest I can get you is the Sony HDR-FX1000 which is about 3x more than your budget.

If you can't increase your camcorder budget, then learn to shoot "day for night".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MaC44MU4iw
This way you will not need a camcorder that has to be good in low light conditions... YOU control the lighting, don't let the camcorder control you.

Does anybody know where i can get a camcorder?
Q. I'm looking for a camcorder that's new and factory sealed. I already tried looking on ebay but they only have refurbished cams. Can anybody tell me a website or store where i could find a camcorder on a budget of $250.00 or less?

A. I would try qvc or hsn. We bought our camcorder from one of the home shopping channels and we got one better than we thought we could afford. The let you divide the payments up on a lot of their items but you get it delivered to your home paying just the first payment and S & H. There is no interest on these "flexible payments." We use it for all of our major electronic purchases.

For instance on hsn.com the have this one JVC 32x Optical Zoom MiniDV Camcorder - Item: 105-831. for 279.99 or 4 payments of 69.99 and free s & h.

If you don't have cable they have websites:
www.qvc.com or www.hsn.com

Low cost camcorders that are good quality?

Q. I need a camcorder to record my little sisters this Christmas. I was looking online and found some under $500 bucks, but I was worried about picture quality. Can you find a good one in the $500 and under range? If so can you state which one you own. Thanks!

A. I recommend Canon FS100 Flash Memory Camcorder, this camera to take quick videos of the kids and the places we visit while on vacation and at school events. In the two weeks we have taken about 4 videos and all of them came out just great. The snapshot feature is ok, if you have nothing else, but I prefer a digital camera for my shots.

This model is very small. I bought a case for it that fits on my belt and I can carry it right next to my digital camera if I want. My wife likes the camera because it has an EASY mode and she feels very comfortable with that feature.

If you are looking for an inexpensive camcorder that gives great SD quality and does not use tapes then this model should be on your short list. For awhile I thought that my digital camera movie mode was pretty good until I tried to zoom in on a play at school and it just could not get the shot. Camcorders are made for movies and it shows.

I also bought a 16GB sdhc card from Amazon and it has worked perfectly.

Canon FS100 Flash Memory Camcorder with 48x Advanced Zoom

What is the best 3CCD Camcorder for under 3K?
Q. This may be wishful thinking, but here's what I'm hoping for...

1080 HD with the capability of recording footage to a hard disk, 24p, interchangeable lenses, good low light performance, XLR ports etc. Another question.. How is depth of field controlled, and do any 3CCD cams rival the look of the 5 or 7D? I would appreciate the feedback, but don't bother if you're gonna be pretentious about it. Thank you.

A. Most camcorders even in the Prosumer range don't record to HDDs these days...most are solid state now. You'll see a lot of SDCH or CF card media cameras now in the high end cameras although the standard of P2, SxS, and XDCam will still be around for most people. I personally like P2 although I work with a news company that still works with XDCam camcorders.

I really like the new Canon XA10 camcorder. The small form factor is a bit worrying to some people at first but the sensor in it is full size and it offers things like XLR inputs and great image quality even in low light! The best part is it's only $2,000 new. The Canon XF100 HD isn't a bad choice either but I still prefer the XA10 over the XF100 at this time.

Also note those Digital SLR cameras are not really camcorders...they are high end still cameras with some built in video recording features added. I still tend to stay away from them these days because of their form factor.

What is the difference between 720p and 1080p?

Q. I am trying to get a camcorder with 40x zoom and i can only find one with 720p not my wanted 1080p. so i was wondering what the difference between the 2 are.

A. 1080p is Progressive.
Its the highest resolution available, for transmissions, and no broadcaster has any intentions to transmit a higher definition program for many many years. so its the best resolution you can buy.

That said, games consoles will produce a higher resolution, provided you have a display that will accept this.

Whatever the size of your tv, if you want Full HD, you have to have 1080p

If you wish to record and play it back on Full HD, you will have to buy a 1080p camcorder.

All modern receivers will upscale from 720, but its not the same.

720 is a little higher than half that of 1080p resolution. So the picture quality will be reduced, but it's still pretty good quality. PN, being a 40x zoom, you will notice the quality difference between the two standards. If you want the best, go for a 1080p.

If you don't want a 720p, don't buy one!

How do i transfer video from my camcorder to my computer?
Q. my camcorder is a Panasonic PV-L559. VHSC, Its outputs are only A/V OUT and a headphone jack. This is a great camcorder with 26 optical zoom and i want to see if i can still use it. Thank you for anyones help
how much does a video card cost
I also have a mac.

A. If you have an analog (VHS-c) camcorder…
You need an analog converter, either internal card or external such as the dazzle. It's very easy to use and come with good software. You would hook your analog VHS-c camera or VCR (with the VCR, you would need an adapter) to the analog converter, the dazzle and then hook the dazzle to your PC. The dazzle cost around 70.00 , but worth the money if you have a lot of VHS-c to tapes to convert.

The problem with converting analog to digital is that you will lose quality.

**Please Note There is no 8mm or Hi 8 to VHS Adapter that currently exsists. This type of VHS Adapter only exsists with VHS-C tape**

What is the best consumer line camcorder for recording live music?

Q. I would like to record musicians / bands and create videos but do not have a large budget to draw from. Is there a consumer line camcorder that provides better quality and features for downloading video to a computer for editing without breaking the bank? Thanks for your help.

A. Get a cheap miniDV cam with a mic port and get a shotgun mic such as the rode videomic that uses 1/8" minplugs instead of XLR. Hope this helps!

What is the best camcorder buy for good amateur documentary?
Q. If I buy the AG-DVC30 with the equipament, it will go almost $3000.

If I buy the DVX100b, with the same equipament (subtract the XLR adapter) it will cost $4500 with shipping.

The Sony DSR-PD170 with all equipaments (less the XLR adapter) goes $3900

All the equipament with the JVC GR-HD1, goes 2700, but somesay this camera sucks.

The sony DCR-VX2100, goes $3500 with all too.

The GL2 goes with all equipament almost $3300.

The acessories is UV filter, NTG-2 mic, XlR adapter if needs it, good XLR cable, extra better battery, cleaning cassete.

You know the better option?

A. Like I said, go with the GL2 or DVX100b (or actually the dvx100a or dvx100's are cheaper, but the B revision is newer, and overall better). And dont go with any internal HD cams (like the above mentioned JVC cam). Unless they are HDV mpeg-2 compression (which i doubt), theres a new type of technology called avchd which allows HD recording on DVD cams and HDD cams, but from what I've heard, they suck (compared to HDV), so stick with that. Hope this helps!

What is good camcorder for someone just starting out in film?

Q. I'm looking for a used camera for filming. I've heard a GL1 or a Sony VX1000 is a good start. I'm hoping to find a used one possibly under 600.00$ Any other cameras I should consider?

A. tech is changing fast.

I see filmmakers using DSLR with hd moviemaking ability with hand grips.

http://nofilmschool.com/dslr/

search 'dslr moviemaking'. used in highend movies now. why buy 2nd rate behind the curve crap consumer cam when you can get pro quality. prices $600-900.

exciting stuff. that's what i would buy. welcome

Best camera for a beginner photographer and filmmaker?
Q. I know i want a Nikon or a Canon, but i just dont know which ones are the best. I want to be able to do some really good quality photography and i want to be able to use the same camera to make short films. Price really isnt a problem, but id probably like to stay under $600. But im kinda stuck on researching cause i dont know what cameras to look at. Thanks!
thanks! and yah i meant video, actual film is too expensive and confusing haha. but a camera that can take stills and shoot video with really nice quality is what i need. and ill be willing to spend more if its worth it.

A. When you say "Price really isn't a problem" and tell us you want to spend under $600, you put yourself in a corner.

First of all shooting video using a dDLR is NOT the best choice.

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/camcorders/cam-cam.shtml

If you want to shoot video, you need to use a video camera. They are designed around producing video. A good 3-CCD video camera will cost about $5,000 or more

The two dSLR's that are known for being decent at shooting both stills and video are the Canon 5D, Mark III ($3,500 - no lens) or Nikon D800 ($3,000 - no lens) The D800 can capture uncompressed video if that is important to you.

As you can see, $600 is a tiny budget. My might be able to find a prosumer 3MOS video camera tht is close to your budget, but you will still need some kind of still camera.

Look at the Nikon D3200 and Canon T4i. They are entry level dSLR's and they have a video feature, but you still have to buy the necessary accessories to make it perform as a video camera.

Can we assume that you have a fast computer (at least a third generation Intel i5 CPU (i7 is better), 16 gb RAM and a handful of 2 tb drives and a good editing program? If not, you need to add another $3,000 to your budget

What camcorder should I get for movies and commercials?

Q. Im looking for a camcorder that is professional, HD, SD card, and something that has longevity. I dont want to make an investment and something better comes out. Ive heard of the RED cameras but I cant afford that. Ive looked at some DSLR's. What do you recommend for movies and commercials?

A. Take a look at the Canon XF100. As far as I have seen, it is the only Pro-camcorder at it's price to get a 50 mbps data rate. Everything else under about $5000 is getting half of that, making them little better than a good consumer twinkie-cam.

At $3300, the XF is not much more expensive than a 5DM2 with a good lens.

Would I be able to create a television commercial that is professional looking and sounding for less than $2k?
Q. I'm thinking about getting a 1080p camcorder and a professional microphone. Editing in Adobe Premier and After Effects. Can this setup match commercial production?

Is there any specific equipment you'd like to recommend?

A. Minimum camera: Canon HV30 or Sony HDR-HC9
Suggested cameras: Sony HDR-FX7, HDR-FX1000, HVR-Z1, HVR-V1; Canon XL2, XHA1; Panasonic AG-DVX100; AG-HVX200

Minimum mic: Audio Technica AT875R shotgun mic. If used with the HV30 or HDR-HC9, add a XLR adapter (with phantom power - check juicedLink CX231 or BeachTek DXA-6HD).
Suggested mics: Sennheiser wireless lavaliere (1 or more as needed) + any Sennheiser shotgun or Audio Technica AT8035 or above

Minimum external audio capture: Zoom H4
Suggested external audio capture: Anything from Fostex

Boom pole, shock mount, cables, tripod (Bogen-Manfrotto - weight rated at least 2x more than the camera - with a fluid head), maybe a crane (Kessler), lighting...

We don't know what the commercial is about.
We don't know if you need lighting.
We don't know if you need to pay talent.
We don't know if you need to pull any permits.
We don't know if you need to rent studio space.
We don't know if you need grips, construction, electrical, safety, craft services, wardrobe, makeup, vehicles, and lots of other stuff.

To answer your question directly: Yes it is possible - but you have not provided enough information about the project to understand the requirements. We also do not know what your skillset is. Equipment alone does not make things "look professional" A pro with low end equipment and skill will provide better and more compelling content than a novice with no skill and the best available equipment.

How do I transfer video from the hard drive to the SD card on a JVC Everio GZ-MG630RU camcorder?

Q. I have a 2010 JVC Everio GZ-MG630RU camcorder. i recently bought a laptop with Win-7. i found out that Win-7 does not recognize my camcorder . My question is: how do i go about transferring the videos on my camcorders Hard Drive to the cameras mini SD card ?

Thanx

A. Excerpt from Amazon.com. Read your manual and your question makes no sense. Why do you want to copy from HDD to SD when the camera doesn't seem to have an mini SD card?

Everio Features

All 2009 Everios make sharing and watching videos easier than ever. New for this year is the One Touch Export function that allows Everio videos to be imported into iTunes and loaded into an iPod or iPhone. All 2009 Everios also offer One Touch DVD burning and the One Touch Upload function that JVC introduced to users in 2008 as a new and convenient way to upload videos to YouTube.

To use any of the three functions, simply connect Everio to a PC using the supplied USB cable. Then, the user chooses one of three buttons on the Everio: UPLOAD, EXPORT, or DIRECT DVD. Pressing the button will launch the appropriate Windows PC application that comes bundled with Everio, and the user simply follows the simple on-screen prompts. With just a few mouse clicks the process of uploading to YouTube, exporting to iTunes, burning to disc or transferring to an external hard disk drive will be completed. For uploading to YouTube, the user can perform an in-camera edit of any length video to fit the 10-minute YouTube limit.

For disc based archiving, there is an alternative to using a PC. JVC offers the CU-VD50 Direct DVD Burner/Player as an option, which allows burning of Everio videos to a DVD disc without having to use a PC.

The new Everio MediaBrowser software supplied with all Everio models is a Windows application providing an easy-to-search calendar-type graphical interface for indexing and finding video files. Thumbnail images of recorded videos and stills are superimposed on the calendar so it’s easy to see when any scene was recorded. The Everio MediaBrowser also allows easy playback, simple cut editing, and "Decomotion" to spruce up recorded footage with animated graphics for upload to YouTube. It also supports Export to iTunes, Upload to YouTube, burning to disc or transferring to HDD.

Another new feature found on all Everio camcorders is Digest Playback, which offers an easy and entertaining way to check the content residing on Everio’s HDD or SD/SDHC card. The function automatically selects highlight scenes from among the recorded content using JVC’s proprietary algorithm and plays back what looks like a "coming attractions" trailer for a movie. Sixty minutes of footage is condensed into five minutes of highlight scenes.

Other Everio features have been enhanced for 2009. Laser Touch Operation has been updated to allow control of zooming and recording using either the Laser Touch scroll bar or buttons next to the LCD screen, as well as by the standard zoom lever and REC button. And as before, Laser Touch makes it easy to browse through thumbnail images of recorded scenes and access menu selection. Power-linked operation, long offered by JVC, goes a step further this year. Simply opening the LCD monitor automatically opens the built-in lens cover and powers up the camcorder. Closing the LCD also closes the lens cover and shuts down the power. With Quick Restart, recording can start in about one second after the LCD is re-opened.

In addition to performance and convenience, the 2009 Everio line offers plenty of style and shooting comfort. A new design features elegant curves, a silver-framed LCD and a comfortable angled grip with a new dual use strap. The strap can be used in the usual camcorder fashion, supporting the user’s hand when shooting, or it can be extended and used as a wrist strap like the type on most digital still cameras.

Will a movie filmed with a digital camcorder reproduce well when transferred to a theater screen?

Q. I'm ready to shoot my feature length horror movie now. I'm wanting to invest in a HD camcorder that will have that "film look" but that will also reproduce well when it's projected up on the big screen when i try and get it into some of the film festivals. Any suggestions which type of camcorder can help me get that end result that i'm looking for? Thanks in advance.

A. That depends. A good camcorder that shoots full HD (1920x1080) will do a reasonable job on the big screen. That's Blu-Ray quality. Film provides higher resolution, and some digital projectors will also provide about twice the resolution, called 4K (as opposed to 2K, which is full HD).

But you don't win or lose at a festival based on image quality alone. If your content is good, people won't worry too much about the video quality, as long as it's reasonable. So a good HD camera (even a consumer model) could be fine, as long as the rest of the movie is good.

How long until we start seeing cheap, compact 4k camcorders in electronic stores, disgracing cinematography?
Q. and we start seeing $50 cameras on drug store shelves with giant "FULL HD VIDEO!" labels replaced with "4K RESOLUTION VIDEO!"
Yes, quantity over quality.
Make cinematography better by making it trite.
Okay.
Sounds great.

A. A person can buy a $50K guitar and still not know how to play.
A person can buy a Ferrari and they won't suddenly know how to get first place in a race.
Your new adidas tennis shoes with independent suspension springs will cost you $200, but you'll still break your ankle trying to jump the 2" your capable of jumping to dunk a basketball on a full-height hoop.
And with cheap fully-auto digital cameras out there, pictures are getting better over-all, but professional photographers are professional because of them, not because of their cameras.
Cheap gear won't disgrace cinematography, because no one will look at film that is made by "cheap"(lousy, uncommitted) cinematographers.
What people watch will be what is made by the best cinematographers, just as these things always work. The gear is irrelevant.

What is a good camera/camcorder for recording electric devices?

Q. I need a camera/camcorder under $300
Preferred in HD.

Good quality so i can see whats on the electric device(such as ipods and cell phones)
Right now im using my phone camera to make videos.,
you can check out my youtube page for my videos quality

http://www.youtube.com/user/nbamvp2887

i need something where i will be able to see what i am doing on the ipod touch

A. Use a tripod or some other steadying device. No more handheld. Turn up the lights - but not directly (you don't want glare).

There is no high definition (HD) or hard disc drive (HDD) camcorder for $300 worth buying. The only ones are the toy Flips or Aipteks.

Im trying to find a good camcorder?
Q. I am looking for a camcorder under $300 that will let me upload the video from the camcorder to my computer. any suggestions ?

A. Here's a list of the top camcorders for 2006:
http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/CamInfo-Selects-2006.htm

The Canon ZR400 is rated the best for your budget of under $300 - if you can increase your budget a bit, you can probably find the Canon Elura 100 for slightly higher than $300.

Affordable High Quality Camcorder other than Mark2 5D cannon?
Q. Mark2 has very good quality but the price isn't affordable for me. Neither can I give up on the quality....
Is there anything I can go for?
I just like the quality of Mark2, but all I want is Video, not Picture,
so if there is a camcorder that produces same quality as Mark2 and cheaper = perfect for me.

Any suggestion appreciated!

What is the best HD camcorder for around $300 or maybe a bit more with the best optical zoom?

Q. I want a camcorder with good quality, but nice optical zoom as well.
My cousin has an SDR-S26 Panasonic camcorder with 70x optical zoom, but it's standard definition.
Why can't companies make HD camcorders but with huge amounts of optical zoom like my cousin's?
Thanks.

A. It's a gimmick. It may have 70x zoom but you can NEVER hold it in your hand and zoom it in 70x while it's still watchable. (it will be shakey and out of focus)

So no there are no 70x zoom HD camera's its just a gimmick.

What's a good camcorder with a built-in light?
Q. I'm looking for a relatively small/cheap camcorder (good quality but not willing to spend like $1000 on it) with a built-in light. I can't seem to find any that aren't a ridiculous amount of money.

A. Admittedly I'm basing my answer entirely on my Canon HV20 (which originally retailed for $1000+ new,) but I doubt you'll find many good ones. Built-in lights will be small so it won't add bulk or sap too much power, and not really illuminate too much.

You'll probably be better served by purchasing a separate video light

What camcorders support wireless microphones?

Q. I own the JVC Everio MS120 and found out that it doesn't have a headphone jack or microphone input for external mics. So what camcorders do have this feature? I really wish my camcorder had this feature it's an awesome camcorder just this feature is missing!

A. i was googling and found ContourHD 1080p Full HD Helmet Camera which is really good.

#Full HD Recording (1080p) - 1920x1080 pixels - 30fps
#5 Megapixel Sensor
#Internal Microphone
#Removable Lithium-Ion Battery; records up to 4 hours
#Aluminum and Fiberglass Water Resistant Body

What Impedance for an External Microphone is Recommended for the Sony Handycam HDR-HC9?
Q. I want to buy a microphone for external audio.
Stereo and my budget is pretty much unlimited. I mean, what does a good microphone usually cost?
The manual says 47 kilohms, wtf? My current microphone works with about 300 ohms. What the hell does that mean?

A. Read the manual:
http://www.docs.sony.com/release/HDRHC9.pdf

For the most part pretty much any mic with a 1/8" (3.5mm) jack *should* work. With THAT particular camcorder - shooting in HDV and all - I would use an XLR adapter from juiceLink ior BeachTek and focus on pro-grade mics. WIth my HDR-HC1, I use a AudioTechnica AT-825 stero mic or for interviews, a Shure SM58 or wireless lav... sometimes a NRG Research SA-568... but ALWAYS either my jucedLink CX231 or BeachTeck DXA-6.

Do you want stereo or mono audio?

What is your budget?

Q. I have an Hitachi HDD camcorder, and cannot import the video from it into iMovie. According to the manual, it is Mac compatible, and I can import photos from it without problem.

When I hook the camcorder up to my computer, iMovie doesn't recognize it as a camera, and I don't know what to do about it.

Does anyone know what I can do to remedy this problem?
I have iMovie '08, and my camcorder connects via USB cord. I am not looking to get a different version of iMovie.

Camcorder that can be edited on a mac?
Q. I have a mac and need a camcorder that can be edited on it. I am having trouble finding camcorders that are compatible with a mac and IMovie. Any suggestions? The only specifications are that it must be digital, mac compatible, and relatively cheap ($100-$200). And please if you say firewire explain to me what that is and what camcorders come with it. Thank you.

A. ZR500. It's about 150 dollars now I believe. And it's very good in my opinion.

What Camera can I use to take good quality videos?

Q. I want to be able to take good quality videos to post tutorials and such on my blog and Youtube. I am not a videographer so I don't want to invest in a lot of equipment, but I am a photographer. Would the Canon Mark II or III do the trick? I've never used a camera that can take video but I certainly know my old camcorder doesn't cut it. Thanks!!
I would be willing to invest in a Canon Mark II or III because I need a new camera for my photography and if it really does a good job with video it would be great to have a Camera and Video Recorder in one, instead of buying a camera and then a camcorder seperately which would probably be more expensive.

A. Don't know what your "old camcorder" is, but it is an excellent tool to learn with.

For a person that doesn't "want to invest in a lot of equipment", your choice of the Canon Mark II or III is certainly an expensive place to start.

The Canon 650D (T4i) has a good quality video, as does the Nikon D7000.

What is the best quality video camera or digital camera for someone on a budget?
Q. I'm a college student studying film and I would really like to save up for a nice camera. What would be some of the best options that wouldn't be too costly (under $500) and have some of the best quality video?
A HD camera...okay...so in that case we'll say under $800.

Any specific brands or models that are the best?

A. If you want good quality videos I would suggest you should save more money and get high definition camcorder which around $550 - $600

What is a high quality, but affordable camcorder?

Q. I'm looking for a really good camcorder, but I only have a 150 dollar budget. Is there a good camcorder within that price? I know that isn't a lot when it comes to camcorders, but I just want the video to have pretty good quality, and some good sound to it too.

A. Sony HDR-CX190 High Definition Handycam 5.3 MP Camcorder with 25x Optical Zoom (2012 Model) has been a great HD camcorder so far. It is very small and lightweight, to say the least. I think the 70 series battery I bought for this unit weighs almost as much as the camera. The controls are good with the little screen joystick and menus. The color is very good on the screen, and the video is sharp. I like the 30x for videoing my stepsons' wrestling matches.

What is a good cheap hd camcorder?

Q. Hey guys, i like to make youtube videos, but i only have a webcam D: And i dont have much money, and i realy need a hd/ high quality camcorder. Please help! Also, if you know any good cheap video editors that have some good effects/work well with chroma key? I use Videopad and have recently started using AVS, but im not very good with it. Thanks!

A. If you want a good HD camera within a decent price range. Check on the Kodak Zi8. I have that one and it does beautifully. You can change between 1080p, 720p 60FPS, 720p 30FPS, and SD videos. It even has 5.1MP stills, but I don't use that. The best thing about it is the external mic jack, which allows you to use a better microphone, which Flip cameras do not have. As well as an SD card slot, which allows countless hours of recording.

What determines how clear a camcorder is?
Q. I already own a camcorder and i want a better one with higher quality video. So i just wanted to know what makes a camcorder have sharper/clearer video.

A. Generally, the higher the numbers of the resolution makes a higher quality image (so, for example while shooting in HD 1920x1080 is better than 1440x1080)

Also, the more frames per second, the better looking the end result is going to be (so 60fps is better than 30fps)

Can camcorders or cameras function as webcams?

Q. If I wanted to live stream a video, can I use a camcorder/camera?

A. Maybe ... usually only the cheap ones.

Real camcorders and digital cameras capture far too much information to be able to stream to the Internet even with very high speed broadband connections.

The other issue is how will you keep the camera or camcorder turned on for hours without the battery dying?

Just spend $25 and get a real webcam

The streaming video sent by camcorders that you see on the Internet use special software programs that can compress the video into manageable size and that software is rather expensive.

If you have a telecom department where you work, ask them about what it takes to teleconferance between company sites. They can help you find the right software if that is what you are trying to do

What kind of zoom does a good camera have?
Q. I found a pocket camcorder/camera that has a zoom of x4. Is that good? I don't really understand that. What kind of zoom should a good camera have? I mean, on black friday it is only 20 dollars, so i'm sure that isn't the greatest, but is it even worth that much? It is a 1.3 megapixel camera. What would be a good zoom for a camera?

A. 4x refers to how far it can zoom in. Like when you see 4x on binoculars and rifle scopes it it means they have a magnification of four times. That being said, the magnification dosen't really translate into quality. If you want good quality look for and 'optical' zoom. That means it won't loose quality when you zoom in. If you get a digital zoom, then the closer you zoom in the crappier the quality gets. Being that it's a 20 dollar pocket camcorder, it most likely had digital zoom. but for 20 dollars, you can't complain. lol

Hope this helps!

what is the best mic to record loud music?
Q. hello friends; i have a sony hdr-sr11 i am thinking in buying external mic to record loud live music but i am not sure what mic to buy i have been looking for RODE VideoMic DVC; SONY ECM-MSD1; SONY ECM-HST1; which would you recommend? thanks for your answers.

A. Any of the mics will work OK for normal audio levels. I am not familiar with that camera enough to know if you can adjust audio input levels (probably not). If so, you are all set. If not, you will be disappointed because the camera will try to adjust levels automatically and it is NOT designed for loud music. You will get badly distorted sound.

Video pros always have a way to adjust the audio levels - pro cameras have that feature built in. Consumer cameras do not.

It will be a bit of a pain, but the best way to do this is to connect the microphone to a camcorder "XLR audio interface". This device allows you to adjust the mic level down so that it does not distort the camera input. You will need to buy a mic that has an XLR output. The mics you are looking at I think connect directly to the camera - you don't want that. Here is one reasonably priced audio interface that is designed for what you want to do:

http://www.markertek.com/SearchProduct.asp?item=DXA%2D6A&off=2&sort=prod&skuonly=0&search=DXA%2D6&pagesize=20

You can then connect any good pro XLR microphone to you camera.

When I load tapes into my Sony Super 8 handycam model F375E all the tapes try to load up then I get a series o?

Q. I am trying to look at old Super 8 Films of my kids via a Sony Super 8 Handycam model F375E

When I load tapes I hear they are trying to load up but I end up getting a series of bleeps and then the tapes will not play or rewind - There is power going into the machine OK but none of the tapes seem to play and i have tried this with 30 different tapes.

A. the sony handycam CCD-F375E is a video8 camcorder. it uses magnetic tape, there is no way you can stuff a Super 8 film cassette into it. i think you are saying you took videos with this camera, and now it doesn't work. my guess from your symptoms is that the belt that runs the take-up reel is broken or loose. This is common for products this old. It should be a simple fix for a repair shop, take it there.

Could you make a good looking short film on say a 1 ccd camcorder?
Q. I'm thinking about shooting a short film, but don't have the money for a fancy pansy 3-ccd camcorder or HDV, so I'm deciding to shoot on a cheap 1ccd camera for shots with artificial lighting, and all shoot on super 8 for daylight outdoor scenes because of the balance. Do you think I could get good quality?

A. its about the craftsman not the supplies. if the story is good and everything else is good it should be great

I have a question about the Iphone 4g?

Q. I was wondering if all the rumors were true? Is there really an iphone 4g coming out in may-july? did apple actually come out & say this or is it just one huge rumor? My upgrade is on april 13th is it worth saving until the summer?

A. The iPhone 4G is COMING!!!
December 12, 2009 - Are you ready? Release likely around June or July of 2010.

Lots of speculation is going around on the new iPhone 4g... in HD!!

Verizon Wireless is currently testing a CDMA version of the iPhone 4G and Verizon confirms they are making network changes to bring the iphone to their network. The new iPhone 4g is going to be loaded with awesome new features like video chat, multi-tasking and extreme downloading. (List of possible features below). Just when you think there is nothing else to come up with, more and more and more technology comes out. And it is on the rise, and not just at Apple, Inc!

Woo hoo! This iPhone 4g could also have dual core processors and higher and powerful graphic chips that can deliver higher video resolutions and better "still" images when taking pictures.

There are a few networks working on building a 4G network. T-mobile would be a likely carrier since they are GSM already. Sprint has a 4G network already... AT&T and Verizon Wireless are in the beginning stages. There are talks of Verizon Wireless getting iPhone sometime in 2010 since the exclusive contract with AT&T expires, but it could be renewed until 2012.

Whether or not it will be 4G will be up to them!... can they build in time? Regardless, there is much anticipation on how many people will leave AT&T for Verizon Wireless because of AT&T's lagging on app restrictions like Slingplayer and Google Voice and Skype (on #g network, not Wi-Fi).

AT&T's restrictions have caused the percentage of people that are JailBreaking their iPhones to rise since Jail Breaking usually comes with Cydia which is the app store for jail broken phones. Most of the applications, ringtones, and even iphone themes!...are free with Cydia. Winterboard is part of the download, and it very easily add's the changes to your phone so you dont have to figure how to do it on your own...it is VERY automated.

The Palm Pre on Sprint (Sprint now offering a 4G network) has made an attempt at being competitive with iPhone and Blackberry...but it's not looking good. Maybe their recent Android phone will help.

iPhone 4G looks promising in terms of being sleek, packed with new hardware and multi-tasking software. Very exciting.

A few features of iPhone 4G:

A new, sleeker body design.

OLED screen.

Multi-Tasking. (use multiple functions at once without going in and out of apps)

iChat camera (on the front so you can have video chat!!!)

32G (basic) and 64G of memory. Your sure to never run out.

Removable Battery.

Hi Definition Camera.

Hi Definition Camcorder.

Hi Definition audio.

Messaging light.

True GPS built in.

hope i helped you out :)

whats better? a Mac OS X or Windows XP?
Q. i say mac becuz windows is a peice of shit that will crah every 5 minutes

A. With Bootcamp software from Apple. Windows XP can also be installed on macs but who wants it ???? Always Mac OS X is the best and if you want windows to reach this stage? Wait till year 2012

I'm long time mac user since 1984. And i have seen windows 95 a new OS coming up in year 1995.I have been using both OSs since then till Mac OS X 10.4 and XP professional.
Mac OS X was introduced in early around June 2001 and XP was introduced in around Nov 2001. Windows is just like an empty plate for yourself to serve and eat(ie get the third party). But Macs are packed with great features and software which you won't even get from the windows third party. Finally why is the Mac user base in the world very small ? Its just same as asking why Ferrari's Market share is less. They are expensive but worth to have.

Macs are designed for students, email & internet users, professionals users.
Apple products hardware & software are designed in such a way that all the complex tasks are done with simplicity and real ease. Looks great and cool.

Eg- iPods. On a iPod you know how easy is it to select a song you want from a collection of 10000 songs library. With just a few clicks on you iPod.Right..! Try that on any other MP3 player in market today.
Thats because the well designed hardware and software and most importantly well integration of the iTunes and iPod. But along with the easy use iPods look beautiful and cool.

Macs are similar. most easy to use, great user experience, great features.

FOR STUDENTS AND GENERAL COMPUTER USERS -
Easy to use with few Examples:-

Drag and drop-
Installation and uninstallation of applications. Just drag the application you want to install from the installation CD and drop in the Application folder and thats it, Installation done. In some cases we need to do installations in conventional way(like windows) but most of the times its drag and drop. For un-installation its just drag the application to the trash and empty it. un-installtion done. Very simple for general users. Same with moving folders and files.

True Plug and play- Of course now XP is also capable of it. But not 98,ME,2000.
With Macs plug and play works really smooth since Mac OS 8 days

Features:- Ok! the hardware looks cool so what about software the brain of the computer. Microsoft is following Apple for years. You will see these Mac feature in the next years release of Microsoft's next generation OS Vista.

Mac OS X- http://www.apple.com/macosx/newfeatures/...

Cool looks and feel and really easy to use OS with Drag & Drop,
Aqua look, and really a great user experience.

Dashboard - instantly access to small apps like calculator, stock charts, weather,
clocks, telephone directory... Its really cool..

Spotlight- Instantly searches with lightening speed.

iChat A/V - Coolest experience for Instant messaging and video
conference with isight.

Automator - repeated tasks like renaming the file names is done
in a matter of few secs.

Mail Client - free with OS really cool features like slide show
of the image which come on your emails

What HD camcorder would be the best?
Q. I'm looking for something with a little better quality than I have. I have just a normal camera, but I want to try an HD.
I want something under $75, so I'm looking on Amazon.
Any good ones that you can think of?

A. HD simply means it has a frame size of 1080x1920 pixels, it says nothing about quality. a $75 HD camera will really suck. save up your money to get an entry level camcorder, like a Kodak Z or a Flip.
