camcorder won't record in 60 fps?

Q. i have a canon vixia hfr10. when i set the rate to 24, 30 or 60 frames per second. when i import it to my laptop, it remains 30...no matter what i set it to.is there a reason why? i mean...you probably cant help me since...its the hardware or something but..any suggestions why (if possible, a fix for it) would be appreciated. thank you
I use Adobe After Effects. it can handle pretty much every frame rate that exist
in importing...i right clicked the file click copy. when to my folder and then hit control v (paste)

A. You did not tell us how you are "importing to your laptop". It is likely the video editor you are using can only do 30 fps - but we have no way to know.

camcorders?

Q. ok whats the diff about these camcorders and which ones are the best my budget goes up to 500 nothing more help
dvd, mini dv, hi 8 mm, high def, tapeless, hard drive whats their difference help!

A. DO NOT GET A DVD based camcorder.
DO NOT GET A DVD based camcorder.

Did I mention... DO NOT GET A DVD based camcorder.

Get a hard drive based camcorder if you want. Some of the higher-end flash memory camcorders are good. Best quality video continues to come from miniDV tape based camcorder, so you can get one of those.

DO NOT GET A DVD based camcorder. Poor video quality, difficulties transferring to computer for editing, unstable optical discs... Do yourself and your husband a HUGE favor and please don't do it.

If you tell us your budgets, we can make actual recommendations. Canon, Sony and Panasonic are the usual manufacturer suspects.

Digital formats are best for editing: MiniDV tape, hard drive, flash memory (also known as "tapeless").

The analog formats are just going away slowly. This included Hi8, VHS-c.

My recommendation: Canon ZR800 or Sony DCR-HC28 (or HC96). You may need to add a firewire port to your computer. Easy to do if there is an available PCI slot inside - or PCMCIA slot if a laptop. Don't spend all your money on the camcorder - you will also want a tripod and an extra high capacity rechargeable battery... and a sturdy case.

Budget HD Camcorder, easy best answer?
Q. Basically I am looking for an HD camcorder that can deliver some clear and precise picture for youtube videos I will be making for work.

I recently picked up an Insignia HD camcorder which looks great on the camera, but when uploading to youtube looks anything but great. Here is the link to the camera for people who want to see what I have :
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8940015&type=product&id=1215217076309

Now the following link is the kind of quality on youtube that I am looking for or around it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68bJZu2AgNM&feature=fvw

go to around 30sec to 1 minute mark to see the quality I want. I just want clear, vibrant, andcolorful movies.

Now to get back to the actual question. What am I looking to pay to get quality of that quality at least. What is the minimum I am looking at nad does anyone have any sugestions on cameras they know are cheap and look like this.

Easy best answer for great responses.

A. Help me understand... You have a $128 pocket "toy" Insignia camcorder and you don't like the video quality.

You want the quality of a Sony HDR-XR500V, $1,000 camcorder but don't want to spend any money?

This is only on part of the puzzle.

We don't know what you edited your pocket cam video with and on. We don't know what you consider poor video. We don't know what the lighting conditions were that you captured with and we don't know what you did with the video (compression wise) before you uploaded...

Then, with the Sony, that AVCHD/MTS high definition camcorder has very specific requirements for a computer and editing applications to edit with and on.

Provide more definition on what you have and how you got it - video wise... or expect the response to be that you need to spend at least what that Sony costs to get that quality of video... and add in all the computer hardware and software upgrades you will need too.

As lenses and imaging chips increase in size, the cost goes up.

Camcorder or flip cam?

Q. Both with a tripod.

A. Hi Jen:

You actually phrased your Question better when you later asked it in "Polls & Surveys"... mentioning "for vlogging" here would have been helpful.

First, you should know that the Flip series has been discontinued by its maker Cisco Systems, although they'll continue Customer Support until the end of 2013. There were a lot of customer dis-satisfaction issues (especially with the HD models) that led to its demise.

The Flips are fairly easy to use, they have a tripod thread for mounting (which some pocket-cams don't) and travel easily. But if you don't already own one, don't buy one. There are better pocket-camcorders with tripod mounts out there, for the same money.

If you or your folks already have a camcorder, you'll find that most full-size or palm-size camcorders have better quality and auto-focus features that the Flips don't. And the mikes tend to be bigger and better than the pin-hole mike in a Flip.

The other nice feature with camcorders & palm-corders is the side-mount LCD screen can be turned around to face you for vlogging sessions to make sure you (and anything you might hold up) are "in frame". The Flip LCD's are on the back.

If you are making a first-time purchase, feel free to post an "Additional Details" update with your dollar-budget, and I or another Camcorders contributor can make specific model recommendations to choose from.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

What is a good quality relatively cheap camcorder?
Q. My priorities are: hd video quality and hd sound

My maximum is 500 dollars

The quality is SUPER IMPORTANT. Thanks!

A. Hi Pink Glasses,

That's a lot to wish for with a budget like that. Luckily HD camcorders are not that
expensive anymore these days. For real good sound you should go for a cam with an
external mic. option but that will narrow down your possibilities budgetwise..
You can take a look here for 2013 budget camcorders :

or here :

Another option is to look for a used semi-pro cam, like this one :

The best camcorder for youtube?

Q. So i am looking for a new camera for my make up tutorials... I am wanting one that has auto focus and a good quality picture/HD? I dont want to spend much money at all, no more than £250.So if you can suggest a good camera with autofocus i would appricate it.
Thankyou

A. HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. It looks like this -one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, from front to back of the video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi port processor computer with the big 1GB Graphics card and a Sound card that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files these camcorders produce.

DSLR Cameras, all Makes, all Models, all have the same problem when video taping some long videos, all overheat at the 13 to 18 minute mark, depending on the Make and Model. This is unavoidable, it all has to with the fact, video is an afterthought in DSLR camera production.

Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording Consumer Level HD Camcorder and DSLR Cameras, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes four different times advertised as maximum record time for some Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders and DSLR Cameras or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition. And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video

Best HD camcorder for the money?
Q. I am looking to get a video camera and was wondering what the best one is for the money. I want it to be HD, 2hours or more of storage, and a screen that can swivel so I can record myself with others so I can see what is recording. I hate trying to guess and cutting someone out of the screen or someone's head off :P. Any suggestions?

A. I have been asking questions similar to this and in my research I have found out that Panasonic will be releasing their new line of 2011 camcorders (or at least a lot of them) during the beginning of March. When companies release new lines of technology it is sure to drive the price down of their old models. And since March isn't too far away I have decided to wait a month or so before I buy my camcorder so I can get a better value for my money.

Best HD camcorder in 2012 (cheap)?

Q. Hello, I;ve been looking for a slight camera professional now that im in college, I need to make a video for a project
And I need a really good Camera/Camcorder under $650 that will record video VERY nicely. (I want the ABSOLUTE best camera I can get for its price)
For now I;ve been looking at the
Canon VIXIA HF-M40, Pansonic HDC-TM90, Canon t3i, Sony HDR-CX160/B,

I was wondering if you guys could spend 5 minutes of you're life to help me find a good camera in that price range. I've found some few camera's above (Please also tell me which one above would be best at taking videos) but if you know any better ones please tell me! thank yo!
Wait the T3i though would be much cheaper if it was just a camcorder? are you telling me its better then taking videos then every camcorder for its price or less?

A. Canon t3i...nothing will beat the quality lens on that canon makes, yes it's better than Nikon.

what are good quality camcorders or cameras for making youtube videos?
Q. i make youtube videos but my camera quality isn't so good does anyone know of a hd camera or camcorder under 200 dollars that will still look good on youtube ?

A. Sony HDR-CX190 High Definition Handycam 5.3 MP Camcorder with 25x Optical Zoom (2012 Model) has been a great HD camcorder so far. It is very small and lightweight, to say the least. I think the 70 series battery I bought for this unit weighs almost as much as the camera. The controls are good with the little screen joystick and menus. The color is very good on the screen, and the video is sharp. I like the 30x for videoing my stepsons' wrestling matches.

hd camcorder with mic input?

Q. any good hd camcorders with mic input around 300-400 bucks

A. I am not an expert. But I am currently in the market for an HD video recording solution (I say that cos i'm leaning towards DSLRs that do video - my budget is £600) and I don't think anything for that budget comes with a mic input. Additionally apparently even the (DSLR) ones that do, suffer from bad quality audio because you can't override the automatic boost (the AGC).

I have begun to consider simply buying an external audio recorder to do audio, as I think I can get more for my money on the visual side that way with cameras that don't have mic-in.

Hope you find one.

Is there an adapter for a camcorder that has no external mic input for it to accept an external mic.?
Q. I have a JVC GZ-MG330 camcorder, its a very nice camcorder but the down side is it has no external mic input, and i was wondering if there is an adapter or something that could make accept an external mic.
Thanks in advance to anyone who answers.

A. Nope....but your best bet is to use a separate recorder anyway. Consumer-grade camcorders don't record audio that well. Even if you could use an external mic, you would want a good quality one. I use a Zoom H4n recorder with a Sure mic and then mate the audio with my video in post. Much better.

Frame Rate Camcorder Question

Q. I recently got a JVC GZ HD7. IT was discounted steeply, so I went for it. But I need it to meet the particular requirements of Expert Village, which recently changed. I'm no "expert", so I'm wondering if does.
Expert Village says it needs:
"First and foremost, you need a professional level High Definition (HD) camera that shoots at a minimum resolution of 720p or 1080i."

They also want 30p, which I guess is frame rate.

The Camcorder says it does 1080/60i. Is this good? My understanding is that 60i means 60 interlaced. Is this the same as 30p? Or am I misunderstanding what they are asking for?

A. The JVC GZ-HD7 can shoot in 1080i (1080 scan lines, interlaced). Even though 30p and 60i frame rates process the same amount of data (30 complete frames per second), the order in which the horizontal lines of video are processed and recorded is different for each format and it is not easy to convert cleanly from one to the other.

Based on my reading of the Expert Village production guidelines, they simply want HD format but prefer 720p over 1080i. But it would be best if you emailed your questions about this topic to the people at Expert Village since they are the ones with the final say.

What is a good digital camcorder with high frame rate?
Q. It will primarily be used for pen spinning videos. I'm already looking at the Flip Ultra, which is 30 FPS. I'm mostly interested something that's under $200 and I would want a camcorder that records at no less than 30 FPS, more is better. Flash memory would also be a major plus. Thanks!

A. check here http://www.squidoo.com/CamcordersUnder200

hope this helps!
