Q.

A. 1,000 dollars for a 5-yr old?? lucky KID! I know a lot of pros's that have a hard time spending that kind of money! be prepared to have the camera broken in a very short time! No kid at that age will be able to Handel a professional camera and make it last for a long time! GOOD LUCK AND GET READY FOR THE REPAIR Bill's!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE HELP GUYS. CAMCORDER HELPPP?
Q. I wanna become a beauty gruru on youtube like MacBarbie07 & Makeupbymandy24 etc. they have $1,000 cameras! but my mom won't let me get something that expensive, i want a camcorder under $300, that has good quality and can focus by its self, please help and i will love you forever <3

A. HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. It looks like this -one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, from front to back of the video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi port processor computer with the big 1GB Graphics card and a Sound card that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files these camcorders produce.

DSLR Cameras, all Makes, all Models, all have the same problem when video taping some long videos, all overheat at the 13 to 18 minute mark, depending on the Make and Model. This is unavoidable, it all has to with the fact, video is an afterthought in DSLR camera production.

Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording Consumer Level HD Camcorder and DSLR Cameras, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes four different times advertised as maximum record time for some Consumer Level HD Camcorders and DSLR Cameras. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders and DSLR Cameras or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition. And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video

What is the cheapest camcorder with slow motion capacity?

Q. I would like a camcorder for my birthday that has slow motion capacity. Under 300 dollars would be useful, but I know there aren't that many at that price. I want the best quality, however, for that price range. I don't want a camera with 5 fps, god no.

A. Recording at a slow frame rate won't provide you with very good slow motion playback. You want to record at a high frame rate...

For example, some Sony camcorders have a "SmoothSlowRecord" feature that allows fast frame rate capture (120 fps) for a 3 second burst. When played back at NTSC standard 30 fps, the playback takes 12 seconds (or 25% of the original speed). The Casio Exilim line has longer high frame rate capture.

If you just use the camcorder's 30 fps capture and have the video editor slow the playback, when you get to about 15 fps (or 50% of the original speed) is when the video starts being a bit jerky...

Photron and Vision Research (and others) make high speed cameras that can do 300 fps, 1,000 fps and even 3,000 fps or higher - they are expensive.

Can you help me find the best camcorder for my specifications?
Q. I want it to be under $400.
I need to be able to connect it to my computer so that I can edit the content.
I also want my final product to be stored on a dvd.

Things like good picture quality and user friendly controls would be great.

Please give recommendations for the right camcorder for me.

Thank you.

A. Look at Sanyo Xacti camcorders. The model of 2006 Xacti HD1 record HD Mpeg-4 movies at 1280 x 720 pixels and 30 fps working in the powerful 16:9 widescreen format. HD1 has effective sensor resolution in 5,100,000 pixels. It is based on a small body with dimensions: 80x119x36mm, weighs 210g and costs abt. $400. What are some good camcorders that emulate the look of 35mm film?

Q. What are some great camcorders under $1,000 $5,000 and $10,000
What are the best cameras in each of these price ranges

A. Sony HDR-CX190 High Definition Handycam 5.3 MP Camcorder with 25x Optical Zoom (2012 Model) has been a great HD camcorder so far. It is very small and lightweight, to say the least. I think the 70 series battery I bought for this unit weighs almost as much as the camera. The controls are good with the little screen joystick and menus. The color is very good on the screen, and the video is sharp. I like the 30x for videoing my stepsons' wrestling matches.

What is a good camera for a novice filmmaker?
Q. I'm looking for a quality camera for a novice filmmaker. Something relatively easy to use and hold on my own. Something versatile. But something that will produce a beautiful picture that will look professional.

If possible, I would like to stay under $5,000. And, if possible still, under $2,000. Thank you.

A. Sony HDR-FX7, HDR-FX1000.

Both are miniDV tape based and assume your computer has a firewire port because that is the only way the video will get from the digital tape and into the camcorder in best, high definition, video format.

Don't spend all your money on the camcorder.

tripod
video lights
wireless lavaliere mics
wired mics
steadying devices (shoulder mount, vest stabilizer system, etc.)
cases, cables
optional high capacity batteries from the camcorder manufacturer...

If your computer can't handle firewire, then look at the JVC GY-HM100.

Which Prosumer Camcorder to get?

Q. I'm saving up money for a decent prosumer/professional camcorder. I understand that the great quality ones are all well over $5,000.

But I've been looking at the Canon GL2 Mini DV and the Panasonic AG-DVC20 and want to know which ones better. I'm planning on making Indie Films and submitting them into Film Festivals.

Any other camcorder under $2000 that you recommend would be great too!
thanks in advance!

A. For under 2k you have plenty of other options that are much better than the two you mentioned.

For your price range, I would seriously look into buying a Panasonic DVX100 or Canon XL2. These are two of the best DV cameras out there. While some sites will make it seem like these cameras are out of your price range, there are plenty of legitimate places to find them used, in great condition with low usage. You can probably even find a new DVX for your price. I think even if you buy one used, you will be much happier with it than, say, a GL2. Those cameras have been on the market for ages and are no longer worth the retail price they're sold for.

If you need help finding the right deal, you can email me at SK3055@yahoo.com. And don't forget about leaving money in your equipment budget for sound!

Low cost camcorders that are good quality?

Q. I need a camcorder to record my little sisters this Christmas. I was looking online and found some under $500 bucks, but I was worried about picture quality. Can you find a good one in the $500 and under range? If so can you state which one you own. Thanks!

A. I recommend Canon FS100 Flash Memory Camcorder, this camera to take quick videos of the kids and the places we visit while on vacation and at school events. In the two weeks we have taken about 4 videos and all of them came out just great. The snapshot feature is ok, if you have nothing else, but I prefer a digital camera for my shots.

This model is very small. I bought a case for it that fits on my belt and I can carry it right next to my digital camera if I want. My wife likes the camera because it has an EASY mode and she feels very comfortable with that feature.

If you are looking for an inexpensive camcorder that gives great SD quality and does not use tapes then this model should be on your short list. For awhile I thought that my digital camera movie mode was pretty good until I tried to zoom in on a play at school and it just could not get the shot. Camcorders are made for movies and it shows.

I also bought a 16GB sdhc card from Amazon and it has worked perfectly.

Canon FS100 Flash Memory Camcorder with 48x Advanced Zoom

Hope that help.

What is the best 3CCD Camcorder for under 3K?
Q. This may be wishful thinking, but here's what I'm hoping for...

1080 HD with the capability of recording footage to a hard disk, 24p, interchangeable lenses, good low light performance, XLR ports etc. Another question.. How is depth of field controlled, and do any 3CCD cams rival the look of the 5 or 7D? I would appreciate the feedback, but don't bother if you're gonna be pretentious about it. Thank you.

A. Most camcorders even in the Prosumer range don't record to HDDs these days...most are solid state now. You'll see a lot of SDCH or CF card media cameras now in the high end cameras although the standard of P2, SxS, and XDCam will still be around for most people. I personally like P2 although I work with a news company that still works with XDCam camcorders.

I really like the new Canon XA10 camcorder. The small form factor is a bit worrying to some people at first but the sensor in it is full size and it offers things like XLR inputs and great image quality even in low light! The best part is it's only $2,000 new. The Canon XF100 HD isn't a bad choice either but I still prefer the XA10 over the XF100 at this time.

Also note those Digital SLR cameras are not really camcorders...they are high end still cameras with some built in video recording features added. I still tend to stay away from them these days because of their form factor.

What video camera will work well with Mac book pro?
Q. I have a Sony 40gig hd video camera but it doesn't work with Mac. I would like to buy something under 5 grand. Something that works easily with the mac book pro. I am not a pro buy any means but do enjoy mud and water filming any help would be great thanks.

A. I am guessing you want to get a whole new camera then to work with your macbook pro. The best place to find mac compatible video cameras is going to be on apple.com there are quite a few different choices including a Cannon HG10 High Definition Camcorder which is similar to the sony 40 gig, because it records in hd and has a 40 gig hard drive that it records to. The damage will only be 1,000 dollars, but if you need to buy any video software that is where it gets really expensive. If you are going for a full blown professional camera then I would suggest the Canon GL2 Mini DV Camcorder. It will be enough equipment to record professional and quality video, but will run you 2,800 dollars before tax. Another option for you is to use a av input converter for mac.
