Any suggestions on a shock proof and water proof camcorder casing on a JVC camcorder?

Q. Me and my friend will be going on a skiing trip and we want to be able to film it. I am nervous about my camcorder breaking and i need a good case that allows you to still film while the case is on. I am not completely sure about the model but i can give you that detail later. Please answer quickly.
GR-D370U is the model number btw.

A. i would recommend that for the shock/water sequences you consider using a camera like the Olympus Stylus 8000 or 550 which are specifically designed for this kind of abuse. They are still cameras than can shoot in a movie mode for video.

How come my camcorder won't work unless I hold down the battery?
Q. My friend dropped my camcorder on carpet and broke the battery. I had a back up battery and I put it in. It wouldn't turn on at first but then I figured out I had to hold down the battery. The other battery was bigger and I didnt have to hold it down. Is there anyway I can fix the old battery or hold down the new battery without having to press down all the time? Thanks. Its a Sony DCR TRV720 and the replacement battery is a Sony NP-F330 infoLithium battery.

A. Check the camera, sounds like your "friend" broke a tab on the camera that holds the battery to the camera.

If this is the case, no battery will stay on properly.

You may be able to glue the tabs(s) back if you can find them.

Otherwise you may be able to rig something to force that battery against the camera. Silicone caulk may work, you can pry it off later if needed.

What is the best camcorder to use for a short film?

Q. I need to make some short films an I need to best of the best camcorder I can get. Does anybody know of some? I don't have a budget for it. Just need it ASAP.

A. Red Epic.
Canon EOS Cinema cam.

remember to add a few mics (Sennheiser, Audio Technica), tripod (Manfrotto), lights (lite panels), mic boom, shock mount, cables, camera crane (Kessler), cases, Steadycam vest stabilizer system, power supplies... and be sure whatever computer you plan to edit on can deal with the captured video - same with the editing application you plan to use.

What protective gear should I get for my camcorder?
Q. I'm planning on filming hurricanes and tornadoes on my camcorder. My camcorder is a sony and the model number is drv-trv 830. What rain gear and other protective gear should I buy? Sources?

A. It depends how much you want to try to protect the gear.

There are hard cases available that are generally used for underwater use.

There are flexible cases that aren't necessarily THAT "hardened".

Then there are "rain capes"...

I think you want the flexible case - but that is just my opinion...
Check out http://ewa-marine.com/

The DCR-TRV830 uses the VST case (I could not find a DRV-TRV830 here or at Sony - I hope I got the right one for you.)

Alert: These things are not inexpensive.

Can I carry a camcorder and laptop in flight?

A. sure...just put the camcorder in your hand baggage.

Camcorders and airport security?
Q. I'm flying next week, and I'm going to be taking my camcorder. The camcorder will be in its own case which I'll keep in my carry on bag. My question is do I have to take my camcorder out if its case, or do I have to just take the camcorder case out of my carry on or can I just leave it in the carry on bag.

And also would I be allowed to take videos with the camcorder within the airport, just of my family and friends.

A. that would depend on how big it is.
if its a small hand held one that uses mini vhs tapes, mini dvds, or an sd card then its fine to keep it in your carry on.
if its a larger one that uses full size vhs tapes and you hold it on your shoulder to use it cuz its big and heavy then you will need to take it out of your carry on and out of its case and place it in a grey bin provided to you for it to go through the x-ray machine separately.

yes you can take videos of your family in the airport.
