How do I get good video quality from the Canon PowerShot sd750 (digital elph)?

Q. Does this camera shoot HD?
How should I use it to make YouTube videos that are good quality? (I have Windows Movie Maker :/)

A. "Jeff ==(##) o" is correct - but did not answer your question directly...

The Canon PowerShot SD750 does not capture high definition video. It captures very compressed video into AVI files. Check the specs
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_sd_series/powershot_sd750#Specifications
or download and read the manual

Generally speaking, consumer point & Shoot digital still cameras (DCSs) are designed to take good still pictures and do that well - but do not do a very good job with video. If you want good quality video, then a camcorder is a better path.

Since we don't know what sort of YouTube videos you are planning, we don't know if audio is important. A point & shoot DSC *might* provide good enough audio recording for you - we have no way to know.

Chances are very high that you will need to convert (transcode) the AVI files to WMV before MovieMaker can deal with the video files. There are lots of transcoders - I like MPEG Streamclip from Squared5.

Can Canon Vixia HV30 shoot standard definition as well? How can i transfer the tape into computer for editing?
Q. What format did it use? Can it use to record standard definition as well. How can i transfer? Can i transfer using firewire? How to transfer from HD format to standarf def.. Thanks

A. Read the manual:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=177&modelid=16206#DownloadDetailAct

Yes, the Canon HV30 can shoot Standard definition video, too... in 4:2 or widescreen. Format is DV. Refer to page 38 - the section on Menu selections in the HD - STANDARD menu selection area.

Transferring video from this miniDV tape based camcorder is the same for ALL miniDV tape based camcorders - using firewire. This starts on page 76 of the manual. USB transfer of DV or HDV will not work. A USB-firewire converter adapter will not work. USB is used only for transferring stills from the memory card.

You did not tell use your video editor or computer operating system. MovieMaker cannot deal with HDV. iMovieHD can deal with HDV if the Apple Intermediate Codec is properly installed. Having the HV30 convert HDV to DV is on page 77. In any case, launch the video editor and - with the camcorder in Play or VCR mode (and connected with a firewire port from the DV port of the camcorder to the firewire -IEEE1394a, DV, i.LINK - port of your computer, the video editor can import DV or HDV.
