Which Handycam is best ?

Q. I just confused between Canon VIXIA HF R21 and Sony HDR CX200 . Please tell me which one is the best camcorder ? Please don't look into the price and cost. Just forget about the cost and tell me which is the best in picture quality, life, zoom etc.

A. Since "Handycam" is Sony's generic brandname for ALL their consumer grande camcorders, then the HDR-CX200 would be the appropriate choice. However, As I understand it, the Canon HF-R21 has an external mic jack (the CX200 does not)... so I would go with the Canon if this is all we get to choose from.

As for "picture quality", that will depend on you - the person controlling the lighting and movement. "Life"? of a camcorder? In this case, they will be similar. Zoom is an irrelevant measurement. They both record to high-compression AVCHD files. They both are entry-level, consumer-grade camcorders. I hope you have a video editor (and powerful enough computer with lts of available hard drive space - better yet, external drive for video editing project files) to deal with them. No software in the box that the camcorders comes in is useful...

Sony 800x digital zoom handycam?
Q. I am trying to transfer a recorded video to a dvd. I cannot find the manual, so could someone explain how to do this for me?

A. You first have to capture the video. This can either be done with a usb or firewire 400 cable. Firewire is better though. Plug the camera in and turn it to the video playback mode, the screen with controls like ff rewind and so on. Connect the firewire or usb cable to your pc and turn on the camera. Now you need editing software like movie maker, imovie adobe premiere or final cut pro. Select capture video to hard drive in your program. A screen with controls will come up. Press the play buttton and then the capture or record button. You then have to wait for the tape to play right through in real time whilst the video is captured. After it is finished press stop. The video should appear as a file or a bunch of precut clips. Drag them onto the timeline and you are ready to start editing.

Can I use a different brand other than a Sony memory card for a Sony camcorder?

Q. I just ordered a Sony Handycam HD 5X Optical Zoom 2.5 in. LCD Camcorder - Purple, and I wanted to know if I could use some other brand of memory card than Sony. Like, could I use a SanDisk?

A. You have to buy a memory stick. I used a lexar memory stick in my sony camera. As long as it's a memory stick and not an xd or sd or sdhc, then you should be ok.

Is there a microphone compatible with the DCR-HC52 sony handycam camera?
Q. I have a Sony DCR-HC52 Handycam camera and I can't find a mic (online) that is compatible with it! Does anyone know where I could find one?

A. The entry-level Sony DCR-HC52 has no way to connect an external mic. There is no 1/8" mic jack and it does not have an Active Interface Shoe to connect a Sony proprietary AIS mic. It also does not do AV-in so you cannot connect a mic to the RCA audio jacks - and USB or DV port won't work, either. Sorry to tell you all this.

The cheapest Sony with a 1/8" mic jack is the HDR-HC9. It also has manual audio control.

The cheapest camcorders with a mic jack (and no manual audio control are the Aiptek GVs, Canon ZR900, ZR930, FS10 and FS11. None of them have manual audio control, either.

So... the "workaround" is to use an external audio capture device - sometimes referred to as a "field recorder". M-Audio, Zoom, Edirol, Tascam, Marantz, Sony and others make decent ones. When you edit the video, just replace the camcorder's audio with the audio captured by the field recorder.

What is the name of a program which allows me to edit movies recorded from a video camera?

Q. I want to be able to edit, add music into the scenes. kinda like a hollywood movie. i have digital camcorder. i want to upload the movie into my computer and play around with the recording. anybody know the program needed for this sort of editing.

My camera is a handycam 20x digital zoom.

A. I'm assuming you have the equipment to convert the tape to a computer format. If not you will need something like Pinnacle Dazzle to convert the video into a digital format so you can edit via your computer.

If you camcorder has a USB or Firewire/IEEE1394 connection you should be able to transfer the video signal to the computer via your video editing software.

If you are on Windows XP or early Vista you have Windows Movie Maker. If on Windows 7 you have Windows Live Movie Maker. If you have a Mac then you have iMovie. If you are not experienced with video editing these are good starter programs that will make it easier to edit your video.

Pinnacle Studio HD also can help transfer the digital signal from the tape if you have a Firewire cable.

If you do have experience and want to movie on up then the next level of video editing software would include Corel Video Studio Pro X4, Adobe Premier Elements, Sony Vegas HD line of products or Serif MoviePlus X5.

Is moving from a Sony HandyCam to a Flip Mino HD a downgrade?
Q. I have a Sony HandyCam DCR-HC21 and I would like to buy a Flip Mino HD. Is that a mistake? I want the best quality I can get for $150 or less.

A. The Sony DCR-HC21 is a miniDV tape based, standard definition video, low compression, camcorder.
The Flip Mino HD is a flash memory based, high definition video, high compression, camcorder.

If the video you want to capture is under good lighting, then both camcorders will do fine - but the Flip will look better because it is recording high definition video.

The HC21:
* has a larger lens system and imaging chips and under low light conditions will behave better.
* records to low compression DV and is much better for fast action video capture.
* has a built-in infrared emitter - "NightShot" mode - and can capture monochrome video under zero-visible light conditions. The Flip cannot "see" in the dark.
* came with a remote control. The Flip has none.
* has 20x optical zoom. The Flip's zoom is WAY less.
* has image stabilization. The Flip does not.
* has manual focus (through the menu). The Flip does not.

http://www.docs.sony.com/release/DCRHC21.pdf

The HC21 connects to a computer using firewire.
The Flip uses USB.

The Flip can fit in a pocket - the HC21 is a bit large for that.

It depends what you need - personally, I would stay with the HC21... so yeah, moving from the HC21 to a Flip would be a downgrade.

How to hook my camcorder to my computer?
Q. I have a very nice one and I wish to put videos up on youtube. My only way to record is via my Sony Handycam Vision 200x Digital Zoom camcorder, and I don't know how to hook it up to my computer. I was wondering if a simple 2-into-1 cord plugged between the 'corder and computer's line in would work. I really don't have a good budget to go buying equipment. Please! Advice, and know what you are talking about! Thanks!

A. I think this is your camera

http://www.ebay.com/ctg/Sony-Handycam-Vision-CCD-TRV37-/79694346

Its an analogue camera and therefore the video has to be converted to digital so that you can save it to your computer. Simple and not that expensive with in reason the more you pay the better the results, there are a couple of options,

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_13?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=video+capture&x=0&y=0&sprefix=video+capture

1 get a capture card that fits inside your computer, this will give the best results.

2 analogue to digital converter plugs into your camera using A/V then into your USB on the computer.

you will then be able to capture the video from your camera and get it onto your computer in a digital format.

using the software provided you can choose a few different formats probably the best for you would be MPEG, a good solid format that will be no problem editing.
