Does a camcorder have to be 0 lux to pick up infrared light?

Q. I want to be able to shoot in complete or near complete darkness. The camcorder I'm looking to buy is 1.7 lux with it's night time mode. I was wondering if I got an infrared light to go with it, if it would pick it up or if it has to be a 0 lux camera for that to be possible?

A. IR has little to do woth lux - it has to be sensitive to infrared light - period.

Digital Night Vision Camcorders IN THE UK?
Q. Im looking for a Digital Night Vision Camcorder in the UK
Any cheapish ones in the UK?
I aint got much money to spend and i only have until April to get one
I cant get any from America or anything like that as i cant buy off the internet it has to be a shop in the UK.
Thanks in advance.

A. Most Sony camcorders have an infrared LED built-in. Check the camera specs at the Sony web site - look for "0 lux" and "Super night shot".

Also, most cam corders may not have the IR LD built in, but if you get an external IR LED (in the shape of a regular video light), you can use any camcorder you want.

Why they dont make low LUX videocams anymore?

Q. Most today sellers do not even know what LUX mean.
The quality of new cams night pictures are suck.

A. Well one of the reasons why the newer 0 LUX camcorders aren't as sensitive as they used to be it is because one of the things that people found out really quick was that if you take your camera and switch it over to 0 lux during the day, in bright sunlight you could see through sheer clothing, not exactly something a company wants to proudly acknowelge, hence the reason as to why Sony and other manufacturers have reduced the sensitivity of the infrared spectrum. As to why they are not making the cameras with 0 lux anymore, it has more to do with the fact that 1. it just isnt a selling point to most consumers, and 2. since it isnt a selling point, then why should consumers have to pay for something that they dont want. It is like buying a new car and having to pay an extra $50 for a mandantory brail driving manual.

good camcorder?
Q. well i want a good one, but not too expensive. a good handy cam that i can use to video tape skate boarding, a hard drive would be nice. also i want a fully functional night vision mode that will work at 0 lux

A. Actually any brand will do. Personally I prefer Sony brand for a good picture quality and rugged camera

Which camcorder is better?
Q. I can't decide between the Panasonic SDR-H-60 and the Sony Handycam DCR-SR45 and I don't have the much experience with camcorders so I don't know which to choose. I would just be shooting family stuff, and occasionaly YouTube videos so that means I'll be doing a little bit of video editing. If you've had experience can you please give me a list of the advantages and disadvantges, thanks in advance.

A. Check this out --> http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camcorders/panasonic-sdr-h60/4540-6500_7-32815213.html?rid=33196959&rid=32815212&rid=32786399&tag=contentBody;compare

For me, high optical zoom and good optical stabilizer is very important so i would go with the Panasonic, but Sony has some advantages also like:

- Min illumination of 0.0 lux ( which is the light you'd get on those dark nights with only 1/4 of the moon out)

- 2000x digital zoom ( you'd need a tripod for that otherwise it's gonna be all blurry)

- Price

Click on " Full specifications " to see more info about both and choose the one that fits your need.
Good luck

What's a good digital camcorder to purchase for low light situations?

Q. I'm looking for a moderately priced digital camcorder that will record high quality footage in low level light situations, but also have really good sound quality. Mostly for recording live music in small club type settings. Geek speak is Greek to me. I get really confused when people talk about bites and pixels and whatnot. I just want something that can see in the (not completly) dark without being green.

A. Sony has 0 lux capable camcorders. For more info try sonystyle.com

I want a good miniDVD camcorder with night vision capabilities. What kind and where can I get one?
Q. I have a Samsung miniDVD camcorder but I don't like it and I'm looking into buying a different one. I usually just use it for holidays and family get-togethers but now I want one that also can do night vision. Help me out here, please! Thanks

What brands? Where to get one?

A. First what camera model do you have exactly?

I have two mini-DV camcorders and a DVD camcorder. There is really only one camera company that does the best with low light and IR video ... that is the Sony with IR and 0 LUX capabilities.

What cheaper camcorder should I buy that has night mode?
Q. Hi everyone, I know this is asked a lot, but I want to buy a camcorder between 200-475$. It needs to have pretty good quality (For posting on youtube, etc.), a night-mode (preferably 0 lux/ Total darkness!), and if possible vista compatibility or at least a usb hook-up. Anyone have any ideas!? Thanks!

A. I would look into the aiptek a-hd, not a great camera but it's selling for around 100$ which is cheap enough to buy another one in a year or 2. Has a night mode and does 720p video on an sd card. The videos supposedly also play in your xbox 360 as well.
