Flash Memory Camcorder under $600 for traveling?

Q. Preferred Canon, but I'm willing to try other brands
Memory- FLASH Memory only. NO HDD, CD, TAPE
FULL HD
And give me all the tips you can about buying camcorders.
Thanks.

A. Canon is one of the staples as far as HD is concerned. If Money is not as much of an issue for you then and more than $600.00 is possible, i HIGHLY recommend the Canon Vixia HF G10 or Sony HDR-PJ30V. the Sony is closer to your price range you mentioned. if money is more of an issue i'd still stick with canon and go for a lesser HD capable model.

If you are looking for a great pocket cam and not in fact a full camcorder then Flip Ultra HD Gen 3 is a good one, so is the Kodak Zi8, or if you are wanting expert quality and again money is not an isuse the Zoom Q3HD is a good pocket model as well. If you can save a little more you might also check into the Canon DSLR cameras they are mainly for pictures but also do a great job with 1080P,60FPS full HD video as well.
Hope this helps

Camcorder?
Q. I am thinking about buying a camcorder. What is a good one to buy and how long of videos can it take? I would also love a pink one but if not that is perfectly fine. I also don't have that great of a budget to spend so please keep it cheaper. (I still want a good one though!) Thanks!

A. You should get a camcorder with a hard drive instead of a tape or a dvd.

The sony 100gb handy cam is great. That's what we just bought, never would I go back to a tape or a DVD, you can burn them directly off your computer.

They run for about $1200 but you can get ones with smaller hard drives for about $600

Best handheld hd camcorder under $600?

Q. I want to buy a good camcorder, it shouldn't be too small, but not extremely big either. I need i to be about 500 to 600 dollars. I might splurge up to 700 if it makes a huge difference. I need it to make short films and documentaries. I also want to buy an external microphone, so if you know which ones are good, tell me that too! :) (It doesn't have to be wireless)

Thank you!

A. HD camcorders interpolate the video, which means of every 25 frames of video, 4 or 5 frames are taken by the lens assembly; the other frames in between these are filled in by the camcorder inner circuitry, thus giving you not true video. It looks like this -one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, one frame from the lens assembly, 7or 8 from the electronic circuitry, from front to back of the video. Near impossible to edit, even when you have the Multi processor computer with the big Graphics and sound cards that is required to edit, view, watch and work with the files a HD camcorder produces.

Consumer level HD camcorders have 4 problems. 1) Blurry, fuzzy, out of focus areas closely around people in videos taken by consumer level HD camcorders. 2) Any movement, even a wave or lifting an arm, while in front of a recording consumer level HD camcorder, results in screen ghosts and artifacts being left on the video track, following the movement. Makes for bad video, sports videos are unwatchable. 3) These Consumer level HD camcorders all have a habit of the transferred to computer files are something you need to convert, thus losing your HD quality, to work with your editing software. 4) Mandatory maximum record times - 1 hour, 30 minutes, 8 minutes, 3 minutes four different times advertised as maximum record time for some consumer level HD camcorders. No event I have ever been to is that short. Either take multiple camcorders or pack up with out getting the end of the event on video.

MiniDV is currently the most popular format for consumer digital camcorders. MiniDV camcorders are typically more affordable than their HDD and DVD counterparts. Each MiniDV tape will typically hold an hour of footage at normal recording speed and quality. MiniDV tapes are available for purchase at not only electronic and camera stores, but also at drugs stores and grocery stores, making them easy to find while your on vacation. There are literally hundreds of MiniDV camcorders available; both in standard and high-definition. And add the fact that to get a HD camcorder that could produce better video quality footage, one would have to spend in excess of $3500 for that camcorder that could produce higher quality video.

ANSWERS, what is the best camcorder for snowboarding, READ BELOW?
Q. I want to get an HD camcorder for under $600 or a consumer non HD camcorder for under $400, I want to get a camcorder that has awesome clarity to shoot sponsor videos, and is a Flash Memory or MiniDV better for snowboarding and to make DVDs. Thanks

A. after working in the film industry for almost 3 years and shooting snowboard/ski videos for local mountains like echo mountain, and copper mountain, here is what i have to say.

HD is not a easy rout to go. HD is a very unforgiving environment. First off, you need an HD camcorder. Those run about 1000 dollars averagely. You would also need a video editing program that supports editing in HD. Sony vegas is a common program but that runs you 500 bucks. You also need a ton of ram and a good graphics card that can process the HD video while editing. In the end you need an HD dvd burner that can burn your HD footage. If you fall short of one of these things the video in the end will not come out in true HD but will be brought down to normal SD quality. If you have the money and tools to shoot, edit, and play in HD then go for it!

I would go for miniDV any day. flash memory can only store a little data and the quality is not as supurb as mini dv

In my opinion i shot my first snowboard video on a panasonic pvgs 320. Its a great camcorder that has 3ccd's and has the best picture for a camera under 400 dollars. I currently own it and love it. If you don't want that camcorder then get something that is 3ccd. It will be making the people that watch it go WOW! 3ccd gives you supurb color and I highly reccomend it.

check out my youtube listed below. I have my first snowboard video on there and the quality may seem bitter (because its on youtube) but trust me the quality is the best for the price you pay.

also please check out my tutorial on my youtube below that shows you how to build a steadicam. that will let you ride behing your buddies and get spectacular footage thats SUPER STABLE. also invest in a wide angle for close up shots near the jumps and rails.

What mid-priced HD camcorder records has best video quality?

Q. I am looking for a mid-priced HD camera (500-600 max) to make shorts to develop my point of view as an aspiring film maker. I am not concerned with sound quality because all I will be focusing on music videos. I realize the more expensive ones would do a better job but considering its a Christmas present I really need it in that price range. Also, what features would be best to look for?

A. There are many great HD camcorders available but not many around your price range (unless you check eBay, craigslist, etc. for used). Check some of the camcorder review websites, like videoguys.com, etc.

Even though you say sound quality is not important, you should consider one with and external mic capability. Many cameras do and/or they are proprietary to function with only they’re same brand mics.

How to use the camera function on my camcorder?
Q. I JUST BOUGHT a Blue Vivitar 508HND - 1080p digital camcorder. I'm a first time user, I've never worked with a camcorder like this before. But I know that 1080p is a really good quality for video and it also has a camera function on there. I wanted to know how can I take a professional looking HD photo with my camcorder?? What would be some good angles to use to get it to come out the right kind of way?

A. "Megapixel count" is a measurement used for digital still images.

Video resolution is measured using horizontal line count.

480 horizontal line = "standard definition" video.

720 or 1080 horizontal lines is "high definition" video.

Using this (the first number represents the number of pixel columns on the imaging chip; we already determined the second number represents the horizontal rows) to get to "megapixel count" results in:

640 x 480 (4:3 aspect ratio standard def video) = 307,200 or almost 1/3 megapixel

1280 x 720 (16:9 aspect ratio high definition video) = 921,600 or almost 1 megapixel

1440 x 1080 (16:9 aspect ratio high definition video) = 1,555,200 or about 1.5 megapixels

1920 x 1080 (16:9 aspect ratio high definition video) = 2,073,600 or about 2 megapixels

The digital still capture section of the image capture device uses the imaging chip very differently from the way the video section of the image capture device uses the imaging chip... And this is only one, of several, ways video "quality" is determined. The compression applied to the video when captured and stored makes a HUGE difference. For example (an extreme one to be sure), a standard definition, low compression, camcorder like a Panasonic AG-DVX100 will capture much better video than a high definition, high compression, video capture device like a cell-phone/smartphone... especially when the playback screen is large.

Lighting, fast action, use of a steadying device and many other factors also contribute to "video quality" or "photo quality".

As for how to take photos with your Vivitar 508 HND - link to the manual:
http://www.vivitar.com/files_products/417/DVR_508_Camera_Manual.pdf
Photo capture starts on page 18.

"Good angles" depends on your requirements and the subject. Camcorders are not designed to capture digital still images - this is a secondary convenience feature. This is similar to using a digital still capture device to capture video - they are not designed for this and video capture is a secondary convenience feature for digital still images. If photos are important, then use a digital still image capture device, not a camcorder.

Since a "professional camera" would be more typically a SLR or dSLR with interchangeable lens system starting in the $2,000 range (including a couple of decent lenses) and this camcorder is none of these, you are setting an unreasonable expectation of the equipment you have.

Is there a big difference between a non HD sony camcorder and HD Sony camcorder?

Q. I was wanting to get a camcorder soon because I am interested in making film. I found a Sony camcorder for $400 and a HD sony camcorder for $600. Is there a big difference in HD and non HD that is worth $200?

A. well ,yes, there is.an HD camera shoots in high definition and depending on the levels (HD pixels) the prices would rise quite a bit ...........HD cameras show videos on non hd tvs but buy a hd tv then too.........buy the hd camera,if you are not an hd adamant!
