HVR-A1E/A1P HDV Camcorder software?

Q. I purchased a Sony HVR-A1E/A1P HDV Camcorder second-hand.
It did not come with the software.
When I search the Sony website I can find the camera but not the software to download..

Where would I be able download the software for the camera?

A. Hi Tristan, and welcome to Yahoo!Answers:

What fellow Y!A Contributor "Mmm J" says is accurate. The professional-grade Sony's don't come with any software, unlike the consumer Handycams that come with Sony's "Picture Motion Browser" (a/k/a "PMB").

And even though Sony offers free PMB software patches and upgrade downloads, you'd still need a factory PMB CD-ROM with the original version loaded on your PC for the upgrade to work.

A lot of laptops and older PCs don't have the required FireWire (DV, iLink, and IEEE1394a are all alternate names) port for transferring miniDV tapes for editing. If yours does have it, then you could use the free/built-in "Windows Movie Maker" that ships with recent Windows releases, to get started, using "capture" mode.

Other editing software is available that's either freeware or affordable to a consumer user. (Pinnacle, ULead, ArcSoft, and Sony Vegas are popular PC titles. If you have a Mac, then iMovie might be your best starter choice.)

The Apple "Final Cut" and Adobe "Premiere" titles that Mmm J mentioned are pro-grade and expensive, but offer free trial versions on their respective websites, as well as more-affordable "lite" versions ("Final Cut Express" and "Premiere Elements") that are worth looking at (again all have free trials available).

You've got the European/PAL-TV version of the HVR-A1, so make sure whatever editing package you choose has "PAL" (not "NTSC") settings and codecs/filters.

hope this helps,

does my flip camcorder need software ?
Q. i got my flip camcorder in december. it said it didn't need any addition software. but when ever i plug in the USB it just says "connected" and i can't do anything with it.

A. Once your camcorder is connected you have to open your editing software and go from there. If you use Windows Movie Maker (free with XP and Vista) be aware that WMM does not read all file types. Check your manual to see what your camcorder shoots in. To use WMM you might have to convert the video files first.

My advice is to buy some good editing software that works will all file types.

Files associated with Windows Movie Maker
Audio files: .aif, .aifc, .aiff .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, and .wma
Picture files: .bmp, .dib, .emf, .gif, .jfif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .tif, .tiff, and .wmf
Video files: .asf, .avi, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv

problem downloading canon camcorder software?? plz help?

Q. i bought a canon digital camcorder and now tryin to connect it with my computer. i already installed 2 cd's that came with this camcorder. for some reasons when i connect it with computer..my PC dont detect anything attached to it ..so i tried with some other computers ..but got same problem. i tried different cable just to confirm if cable is okay ...so what i noticed is that cable and my PC both are working okay. then i tried software which came with it. just to confirm that softwares are working fine ..i tried to uninstall everything and cleaned any fragments from this software using window clean up utility. but now when i try to install this software again from cd. it shows that its already present in ur computer and need not to install...so cud anybody tell me what to do now ....i m tryin from last 4 hrs and cant find any solution. so plzzzzzzzzzzz help me...

A. To load a video file from a camcorder you have to activate a movie program like Windows Movie Maker. When activated it will look for the port the camcorder is connected and if the unit is turned "on" to VCR mode it will give you a camcorder connected message and prompt you to input video. Buttons on the movie software display will turn on the camcorder and load the video to you hard drive.

Best laptop, camcorder and editing software for filming?
Q. I am going to start filming some short films and i need a camcorder, laptop and editing software.Just tell me which one is the best and the cheapest.

A. Macs are great computers and they come with an editing software (iMovie HD) already on them (to save money). What ever the new model of the Sony camcorder is, they're really good (but painfully simple). If you become really serious about making films your going to want to RENT (buying is impossible unless your Steven Spielberg) better cameras (not camcorders). Final Cut Pro is much more expensive but it's almost exactly like the professional software used in high budget films so a lot of film makers use that. Sound isn't good on camcorders so if you find yourself with extra cash, pick up a mic. Best of luck.

What camcorder/editing software do you recommend for a film studies student with about £400 overall budget?

Q. I use windows vista, and have no background knowledge of digital camcorders or editing software. Shop assistants have recommended the Canon FS200 SD, and Magix Movie Edit Pro, but I am doubtful about them - the Magix software seems a bit basic, and I have read reviews that the camcorder is 'too shaky', has 'bad picture quality' and is 'incompatible with most editing software. Does anyone have any advice?

What is the best affordable microphone for a camcorder?
Q. Essentially, I want to record an individual talking with clarity and volume at any distance. I assume it has to be a small microphone that is attached to the individual speaking... But Im not sure where to start.

Also, I want the videos to look professional, with wide-angle lens, slow-mo capability, minimal 'shakiness', while being 1080p HDD. Any recommendations for affordable camcorders or software that will allow me to do these things, while being user-friendly?

Sorry I'm asking for a lot! I'm just new to this whole thing.
My budget for a camcorder would be anywhere between $500-$2000
And I don't care about price for software, just want to know which works the best (as far as special effects editing) for these situations.

A. Hi John, and welcome to Yahoo!Answers:

Here on Y!A we often have to answer questions like yours about "affordable" things with the response of "what's your budget?", since affordable is a very relative term.

But at least your description of using what is called a "lavalier" (small, attached) microphone, so-named from when older models were attached lavalier pendant-style from the neck. The wired, clip-on version of these "lav" mikes are some of the most-affordable models out there, even with decent quality brands like Sony and Audio Technica. You can find a good model for $35-$50 USD. The quality wireless versions (requiring radio transmitter and receiver) run into the hundreds and thousands of dollars. I own and use a Sima brand short range (20-30 feet) unit that works okay for amateur/low-budget projects that's available for around $50. Sony still offers a 100-150 foot range camcorder wireless audio package (WCS-999) for $120-$150 in price.

As far as camera model recommendations, especially with any kind of slo-mo features, I'm not going to guess at what you wish to spend, since any kind of decent camcorder with high-speed capability and good image-stabilization will approach the $1000+ (up to tens of thousands) price range.

Camcorders/cameras and edit software quality are a matter of "you get what you pay for". And the better the gadget or software, the more time you need to invest in learning. The good stuff isn't made to be "Joe Average consumer" user-friendly without some effort on your part.

Give a realistic budget, using the "Additional Details" link on the Action Bar (mouse over the "pencil icon" Edit menu), and we can give you a better recommendation.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

===UPDATE EDIT===
Thanks for the update, John. You have a realistic budget for camcorder and/or software, to end up with quality results. When it comes to "special effects", that term can encompass a wide range of "looks", some of which off-the-shelf edit programs can handle; others might need something like Adobe's After Effects to accomplish.

When you talk about "wide angle" & "slo-mo" in the same sentence, that brings to mind skateboard or ski/snowboard action-cam videos or POV (1st-person Point Of View) shots. Is that what you are shooting for? You can get by with a regular edit package that can slow-down action footage, for those kind of shots. (You didn't say "Mac or PC", but other than Apple's Final Cut Pro, you can find stuff like Abobe's Premiere Pro or AVID that works on both. Or use Sony Vegas or Pinnacle Studio on a PC to save some money.)

Almost all the good edit software has 2-weeks to 30-day free trial downloads to see what you want to buy. Or, Adobe now offers their "Creative Cloud" (monthly subscription) that lets you have both Premiere and After Effects available for $49-$75/month, and you can cancel after your current project is over with. See: https://creative.adobe.com/plans

Go visit a local pro camera store (not a Best Buy kind of place) to get pro advice on what camera/camcorder would be best for your needs. --DC

Does anyone know what the most compatible camcorder is for an HP Pavilion tx1000 notebook? ?

Q. i use windows vista, and am concerned about a camcorders software not working with my notebook. any suggestions? thanks.

A. Hi Ziggy,

You have a good question. Once you picked out a camera, check the specifications for it. Look for the video file format that the camera records in. Most analog and digital cameras record to .Avi or .MOV. MOV is an Apple format. But many decent editing software programs will work with MOV. Digital Video can also be MPEG-2.

What ever camera you choose, it will come with it's own software, but most likely a reduced functioning version.

If you choose a high definition camera, then this changes everything. You not only will you need software to work with AVCHD but a souped up computer to handle the highly compressed video of HD. Think like a gamers system: 3 GHz processor, 4 MB RAM, and up-to-date video (display) adapter. Many laptops lack this configuration.

Is there any way possible to get back a video i accidentally deleted?
Q. I have a Flip camcorder software, and when i went on it to play a video, it said "Locate Missing Video" so in other words it got deleted somehow...checked in the recycling bin- nothing.
im really upset i had a video from when i made a year with my bf.
is there any way i can get it back?

A. A deleted file does not "write over itself" with blank hard drive space.
The file is still there until written over with other activity.
The action of deleting is an instruction for the computer to reuse the space.
It may be possible to retrieve the file. It depends on how long it's been since it was deleted.
Does anyone else have access to the computer?
Have you done a drive search to check if the file has been moved to another folder unintentionally? Worth trying this first just in case.

Undelete Plus is a program which can recover deleted files.
Even so there is no guarantee you will have success but again - what have you got to lose?
