What Is the Best Professional Camcorder Under $2000?

Q. I am looking for a new camera to use for making short films. I Want something that can record very high quality. I would like it to have a mic input. And probably the most important, the ability to change between different lenses. I really could not find any cameras that fit what i am looking for. Does anyone know of a good film making camcorder?

A. My definition of "professional camcorder":

Lens diameter 70mm or larger;
Imaging chip array 3CCD or 3CMOS 1/3" or larger;
XLR audio inputs.

Find these and you will also find the camcorder with separate focus and zoom rings on the lens barrel, manual audio control on the outside of the camcorder, and other manual controls thta are easy to reach/use and not buried in a menu.

The reason you cannot find what you are looking for is that it does not exist.

If you drop the interchangeable lens requirement and use a XLR adapter from Beachtek or juicedlink, the closest I can get is the Sony HDR-FX1000 then the Canon XHA1 then the Sony HVR-Z5 then the Panasonic AG-HVX200 (the XHA1, Z5 and HVX200 have built-in XLR audio inputs). These are outside your budget.

If you insist on the interchangeable lenses, then the Red family, Silicon Imaging and Several of the Sony NXCAMs - like the NEXFS100 and NEXFS700... But these are well outside your budget.

And you need to seriously consider recording your audio externally (use the camcorder's audio for synching and mute it with your video editor).

If your definition f "professional camcorder" is different, please let us know what that is and we can make a better recommendation.

best low light camcorder under $2000?
Q.

A. Sony HDR-XR500 ~ 1000$ or Sony HDR-XR520 ~ 1200$ .. just read the reviews.

The only difference is the 500 has a 120 GB HDD and the 520 has 240 GB HDD

Whats the best super slow-mo camcorder out there for under $2000?

Q. Whats the best super slow-mo camcorder out there for under $2000?

I don't just want a regular slow-mo but super slow-mo like they use in sports and etc.

I needs to be one that is hand-held and not a huge thing to lug around, and it also needs to be able to record at normal speed with zooming and all that good stuff.

Thanks! : )
could i get a specific model?

A. Any camcorder capable of recording at 60p is good for sports and fast action recording. The Slow motion effect is done during editing by holding the "CTRL" key while dragging the end of the clip to the left. Almost all mayor manufacturers have several models. Check out Sony, Canon, JVC, etc.

Which Prosumer Camcorder to get?
Q. I'm saving up money for a decent prosumer/professional camcorder. I understand that the great quality ones are all well over $5,000.

But I've been looking at the Canon GL2 Mini DV and the Panasonic AG-DVC20 and want to know which ones better. I'm planning on making Indie Films and submitting them into Film Festivals.

Any other camcorder under $2000 that you recommend would be great too!
thanks in advance!

A. For under 2k you have plenty of other options that are much better than the two you mentioned.

For your price range, I would seriously look into buying a Panasonic DVX100 or Canon XL2. These are two of the best DV cameras out there. While some sites will make it seem like these cameras are out of your price range, there are plenty of legitimate places to find them used, in great condition with low usage. You can probably even find a new DVX for your price. I think even if you buy one used, you will be much happier with it than, say, a GL2. Those cameras have been on the market for ages and are no longer worth the retail price they're sold for.

If you need help finding the right deal, you can email me at SK3055@yahoo.com. And don't forget about leaving money in your equipment budget for sound!

What is the best professional camcorder for under $2000?

Q. I will be getting 2000 dollars for Christmas and I wanted to get a professional camcorder with this money. I wanted it to be a Sony camcorder, but there is no professional camcorders under 2000 dollars on their site D: Please help :) also, I would rather get one that is unused :)

A. You can check the site to get some information: http://video-camera-reviews.org

I am going to start a video production business what camcorder should I buy?
Q. I am going to start a video production business for recording events such as pageants and weddings and I would like some advice on the best camera to buy for under $2000. (preferably around $1000 or less if possible) It would be great if it has white balance controls and any other features that would make the recording an event a lot easier. Thanks!

A. If you got money to burn then an HD cam would be great to have but highly unwarranted for your proposed application. If you want HD mini DV has a 16x9 mode which is also comparable to a broadcast HD signal despite what broadcast providers would have you believe. SONY MINI-DV CAM! You will not be sorry. Thats what I started with for professional video productions in 2005.

Panasonic has affordable 3ccd cams for around $1000 if you want to spend that much initially. For editing Premiere Elements is a great legal buy for only about $80-$100 with DVD encoding. (if your Mac OSX i guess you could use iMovie...Final Cut is major $$$)

A 3 CCD cam would be great to have but if you don't know how to sequence and edit etc... a great camera is not going to help you. Your in for a tough time I can assure you. DVD compression, DVD covers, Photoshop, Menus, copyright BS, ordering, selling, people saying "my $3 DVD player wont play your disc...I HATE YOU!!!" and.... Computer and Hardware issues.

Also if your taping events your mostly not going to have time to white balance and manually control everything. Its not like setting up a movie set. An event happens and you have to be on the ball. All the power to you but know that your in for many google searches down the road. Peace. My pro video Website is below, I've gotten very vast in what I do.
