What camcorder should I buy (and where should I buy it)?

Q. I want to buy a camcorder, $400-$800, and the most important features are quality and light-weight. It's primarily for filming my family. I know nothing about camcorders and need to buy it in a day or two. Any advice on specifc models, where to get the best deal, etc. would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!!

A. Here's a helpful camcorder buying guide:

& a list of top camcorder (listed by price range) for 2006:

I would recommend the Canon Elura 100, which was selected as the top camcorder for the value/performance. Here's a detailed review:

As far as where to buy...you'll probably get the best price online, but it's more of a hassle if you need to return, etc. If you rather buy the camcorder locally, check the prices online first to be sure that you're getting a good deal. Good luck.

What is the best camera that is 1920x1080p?
Q. I was trying to look for a full HD camera that is 1920x1080p. Does anyone know the best camcorder between $400 and $800 dollers. I am also looking for one that is good for filming fast moving things ( roller coasters). Can anyone give me some suggestions?

A. If you want a good answer, answer this question again under the camcorders category. It will be tough finding it in your price range, but I would personally love to have a Casio EXILIM Pro EX-F1. It shoots 1920 x 1080 at 60 fields per second, but it can do lower resolutions at higher framerates. For example, it will shoot 512 × 384 at 300 frames per second. That would be perfect for a roller coaster video.

8mm camcorder is there a company that can turn it into still photos?

Q. I Have a JVC that can convert my 8mm camcorder that into DVD.There are minute long pieces that I would like to get still photos from is there a company that can do this for me.If know link please help.

A. Walgreen's used to have such a service. Check with them. There are also stores that do nothing but conversions from video to still, 8 mm to video and other conversions. There is one just two miles from my home

Many of the programs that burn DVD's from compiled video can also do what is called "screen capture" and then using that generated JPEG file, print your own.

How do I watch 8mm camcorder tapes without the camcorder?
Q. I found about 5 full length tapes that were from my high school years - And I'm dying to watch them(been extra nostalgic lately) - Is there any way to play them without an 8mm camcorder?

A. there are four ways

1 Buy an old camcorder to watch them.
2 Borrow an old camcorder
3 But a player but its going to cost a lot more than an old camcorder.
4 Send the tapes off to a company to get them put onto DVD for you its not expensive about $8-10 ish per tape, (maybe about the same in Pounds UK) then you can watch them as often as you get nostalgic

Good luck

Happy memories
