What is a good camcorder to be filming short action films with?

Q. I'm starting to love to make short action films, but the camera right now I have has very bad quality and it's just... not good for any kind of short films at all. Please recommend a good quality HD camera for me? I can only go into the budget of up to 500-600 dollars.
Also in my short films I tend to not use a tripod in shots for more dramatic shaky effect and the camera I have right now freaks out a little bit too much without a tripod.

A. Canon elph in HD :P thats what i have and its great :P

Choosing the best footage quality sony handycam/camcorder?
Q. I want to spend around 500-600 dollars on a sony handycam/camcorder. But do not know which one to choose. I love those hard drive ones but have heard the quality of footage would be lower as it should compress the movie. So I think a better choice is DVD or mini DV ones. But which model? Can you help?

A. Personally I prefer recording on mini DV rather than DVDcam because the easy of transferring video into computer and vice versa. DVDcam has no firewire port at this moment. Any brand will do. Output quality totally depends on you as a cameraman. A good output picture comes from a good picture source.
