Q. I'm trying to buy a HD digital camcorder, but I'm not good at knowing what ones are good. I just want a Basic camcorder. Anyone know any good ones. Or can tell me some good features a descent camcorder should have.
And has anyone heard of the SVP™ HD T-400 camcorder? If so is it good? Cuz thats the one I was going to buy.

A. MP means megapixels. The MP rating means nothing for video as the video pixel size is pre-defined. MP does give an indication of the resolution possible with still photos. Personally, i ignore the MP ratings when selecting a camcorder.
i also don't like memory card video particularly, i am more of a tape guy. the camera is very compact but that comes at a price. the lens does not have optical zoom so framing pictures will be hard. it is not possible to "crop" video after it is shot like you can do with still photos.
another problem typical with this class of camera is they cannot shoot video continuously, ie it would not work to record a wedding. but it would be great to have in your purse to get "candids" at the reception.

A. What you are looking for in a camcorder is the "AV passthrough" or "Analog/Digital bridge" feature. Not all camcorders have this capability. Check the Panasonics - like the PV-GS320, I think. There are a few others.
