How do I upload videos from the camcorder?

Q. Hello, I have recently acquired a Samsung SCL810 camcorder but I don't exactly know how to upload videos to my computer. I have an S-video cable hooked into my computer and into my camcorder but It didn't come with a CD-rom or any interfaces. Im not really looking any "special effects" I just want to upload me playing guitar to youtube. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks! Oh and I am on a serious budget so please no $200 something crazy interfaces please!

A. The Samsung SCL810 is an analog, Hi8 tape, based camcorder. There is no "direct" connection from that camcorder to a computer. This is not a digital camcorder. Digtal tape based camcorders use miniDV and digital8 tape.

You did not tell us which computer, but chances are about 99.99% that the s-video connection is video out only. Not 2-way and not inbound to the computer (many laptops use this to connect to a projector).

To get video from that camcorder into the computer, an "analog/digital converter" or capture card is needed. Connect the camcorders AV cables (s-video is video only so remember to connect the audio cables if you choose to use the s-video connection - but don't connect the yellow composite video connection to anything) to the A/D converter or capture card. The low-end A/D converters connect to the computer with USB, the better ones connect with firewire; the capture cards use a PCI slot. See Roxio, Hauppauge, Pinnacle (Dazzle), Canopus, Black Magic.

What movie camera should I buy for school plays and does the Epson Movie Mate Projector come with sound?
Q. I wish to take videos of the school play practice and play it for the kids to improve their acting skills. What is a good video camera for this use and what projector should I use with it?

A. It depends on what your budget is... if your looking for something that is a good buy, reliable, and affordable i would recommend Canon Vixia HV30. The camcorder is an HD MiniDV camcorder that has high rated definition (so u can see the kids acting expressions :) ), 10X optical zoom plus one of the best image stabilizers. Another bonus is that it only weighs 1.3 pounds, is an average size, and the battery lasts for over an hour ( if the play lasts around an hour this would be a good buy so that you wont have to charge it too often). The playback controls are very easy to control, so if you want to correct the kids on their skills, you can playback the video and advise them on the spot.

The camcorder ranges around $825. And like i mentioned...it depends on your budget. if you want something cheaper theres the Sony HDR-CX100 which is just about as good and it goes for $525.

I REALLY/HIGHLY recommend consumerreports.com, great website for the best consumer products, next time you decide to purchase anything look there... except i think u have to subscribe. (sorry)

Anyway, consumer reports gave the CANON Vixia HV30 the max... 5 stars.

Hope I helped :)
