I would like to buy a Panasonic camcorder (HDD) but it says its digital zoom is 100x/3500x.What does it mean?

Q. Is it 100x or 3500x digital zoom? Its website is http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Products/SDR-S50/Specification/3297698/index.html?trackInfo=true . Its optical zoom is 78x.

A. Admittedly, I'm making an educated guess. Cameras often advertise its optical zoom, digital zoom, and some insane sounding zoom level. The last is usually when you combine the optical and digital numbers. How they arrived at 3500x, I don't know.

However the real number you should be looking at is the 78x optical. Digital zoom is not a true zoom. And 78x zoom is a quite a lot, probably close to the point of unusable without a tripod. (A fully zoomed hand held shot can be very shaky.)
